Week Six: Monday
Who: Jax and Sam
Where: Outside school and the city
When: Monday @ 6
What: Birthday drinks with the sibling

Whoopdee fucking do. It was her birthday. Blah blah blah. Jax had never been one for celebrating birthdays. Well she did like the fact that when she went back home it would be a hell of a lot easier to buy cigs. Not that she'd had much of a problem procuring those carcinogens before hand. But hey, legal was legal. That and she needed some serious scratch lottery ticktes. But past that. It was just another year, another day. She hadn't ever really done the whole big ass Chucky Cheese apeshit birthday party scene.

Not about to start now.

But drinks she had agreed to. She wasn't entirely sure why, but she had. Jax... didn't have a fucking clue how she felt about her sister. Too many damn confusing signals that part of her just didn't want to deal with. There had been comfort in having a nice set opinion of her that had been backed by years of evidence as far as she was concerned. But nooooo... Sam had to go and confuse shit. Didn't make Jax happy. She didn't particularly want to engage in any self analysis that seemed to the case when it came to her sister. She had been happy to leave that life behind now she kept wondering about it.

What. the. fuck.

And speaking of what the fuck... why in the hell had Sam got her so much shit for her birthday?! Holy fuck. Jax was pretty fucking certain that it was more than she'd ever gotten cumulative. Where in the hell was she supposed to put it all and more importantly what in the fuck was she supposed to say about it. Thanks weren't all that easy for Jax. But she probably owed her that at the very least.

Next to that was the fact that she was going out for drinks with Sam. And not any fucking cosmopolitans or sex on the beaches. They were doing shots. No if's and's or but's about it. At the very least she wanted to get her sister good and toasted. That seemed the best possible thanks that Jax could come up with. Girl probably needed it.

So at just around six, cigarette tucked behind her ear, Jax made her way outside the school. Fuck yeah they were taking a cab down there. Screw walking. Chucks, jeans and hoodie... what a fucking surprise. But she was wearing the Dropkick Murphy's belt buckle.

Sam really hadn't intended to go completely overboard with the presents, but she couldn't help it! This was Jax's eighteenth birthday and maybe Sam was looking to make up for sucking during previous years. But mostly it was because Jax was turning the big 1-8 and that was something that demanded to be celebrated, whether her sister wanted to or not. Heh.

There was no question that Sam was super excited that her sister had agreed to drinks and it was even more impressive that she was still willing to fit her in even though she was spending the rest of the night with Manny. Aww, they were cute and her sister was so retarded for the guy. Sam just hoped that their little "chat" stuck with him because she would hate to have to hurt him if he broke her little sister's heart. And hurt him bad she would too...

Sam was already outside waiting for Jax when she rolled up and holy hell, Sam was rocking jeans and a hoodie too! SEE! She could totally be cool when she wanted to be. AND she was also wearing a Misfits concert tee underneath. Oh what now?! "Hey, happy birthday! You ready to go?" There was a cab already waiting so when she was given the nod, she led the way over to the vehicle and hopped right in.

Rather than going to Heaven and Hell, Sam instructed the driver to take them to another bar in the city. She figured Jax would be more comfortable if they weren't likely to run into half of the school while they were out. Fortunately for both of them, the ride over was pretty quick and they were getting out and heading on inside in no time.

Once they were at the bar, Sam set her purse down and motioned for the bartender to come on over. "So, what are we doing tonight?"

Okay, so there was one thing Sam had better not do if she wanted Jax to hang around for more than five minutes of this whole 'out for drinks' encounter she had asked for... it was mentioning anything long the lines of cute or retarded for any guy. Oh hell no. That would undoubtedly get Jax the finger, a glare, and a good shot of Jax's back as she peaced the fuck out. If Sam was all for cute nauseating relationships, which she clearly was considering who it was that she was dating... then she needed to keep that shit to herself.

Though Jax was pretty sure that hell would freeze over before that happened.

Well color Jax surprised... no frou frou sundress or other bullshit. Way to go Sam, probably deserved a medal or some shit for that. "Yeah yeah, ready to go." Jax said, fingers playing with her lighter inside the front pocket of her hoodie as she clambered into the cab next to her sister. She was kind enough to not light up while they were in the cab, tempting as it was just to see Sam's nose crinkle up in disgust. She was totally going to get wrinkles when she was older. Good times.

Eh, Jax typically didn't give two shits what the rest of the school thought. Though Heaven wasn't her style, little too techno dance bullshit for her and Hell... yeah not some place she wanted to rock with her sister. How about awkward? So the bar that the cab pulled up in front of was just fine as far as Jax was concerned. Had alcohol.. then it worked.

"Shots." Jax replied immediately as she popped a squat next to Sam. Jax pointed toward the bottle of Jose behind the bartender. "And keep 'em coming." Not a second given for argument or questioning.

Hey, Sam might have not bitched if Jax had lit up on the way over. She wouldn't have liked it but it was her sister's birthday so she would have refrained from making any faces or saying anything. Not like she was going to die of lung cancer any time soon so if she wanted to smell like an ash tray than who was Sam to say anything? To each their own and all that jazz.

Alcohol was definitely something the bar had and Sam had a feeling that Jax wouldn't let her get away with her usual vodka tonic. Oh well, good thing Sam had partied it up in college! Okay maybe not but she was best friends with a Brit so she had done her fair share of drinking. That and law school was just crazy because you know all those bitches were alcoholics.

"Shots it is." Saw that one coming although...The gears started to grind and Sam smirked as the first round was placed in front of them. Was someone possibly nervous? "Cheers!" A bright smile was flashed before she threw back the shot and then slammed the glass back onto the counter. Yeah, that burned a little. "Bring on round two!"

The second round came and went and Sam didn't stop until the fifth. "So, how's it feel to finally be eighteen?"

Ashtrays had a lovely fucking aroma thank you very much. Eau de cig was the shit. But really, Jax tried not to piss off the cabbies. Those fuckers got you where you needed to go and the last thing she needed was one driving her to BFE and having his shits and giggles over it. No thanks. The minute she was out of the cab though, the cigarette was pulled from behind her ear, popped between two lips and lit up. Wasn't a trip to a bar without a nice cloud of smoke surrounding her.

Jax had to admit that this island was the shit. Way better than having to try to scam a bartender with a shitty fake id or pretend to be 19 up in Canada. She kind of liked this whole no questions just serving the alcohol that felt like it was the norm. Tonight included. Though she could use a nice slot machine to really celebrate the fact that she was 18. OH BOY. BIG MONEY!

Her eyebrow arched up slightly at Sam's quick acceptance of the choice. She halfway expected some bitching and moaning and attempts to get some girly drink instead of some straight up Jose. Well surprises never ceased. And no she wasn't nervous. She actually just wanted to get her sister sloshed, thought it would at least be good entertainment for the evening. Unless she got emotional.

Yikes, maybe this was a bad idea.

Jax took the shot that was pushed toward them and added her glass to the row that was slowly starting to form between them. Damn, five. Well maybe Sam wasn't quite as stick up her ass as Jax thought. Maaaaaybe. Jax kept pace and when her fifth shot was set back in the line (damn this was going to cost) she turned toward Sam. "Uh... same as it did to be 17 and 364 days. No wait, I suddenly feel all adult like and responsible. Oh boy it's fantastic!" She added with the requisite amount of sarcasm.

Yes Sam could hold her liquor far better than her sister expected or would give her credit for. She wasn't a complete tight ass thank you very much! Besides, Sam had a lot of stuff that she needed to cope with over the years and maybe a bottle of wine or some vodka had helped in the past when she had been really low. Their father's death being one of those times. Thank God Easton had been there to help her through it.

She nodded. "Yeah, that's pretty much how it feels every birthday," she replied as she motioned for round six. "But I think birthdays are only as good as you want them to be." The next shot was taken just as quickly as the first and once the glass was back down, she reached into her purse and pulled out a little blue box. Yes, the little blue box. The Tiffany's box was tied with a white ribbon and slid across to her sister. "Happy birthday Jax."

Inside was sterling silver oval locket on a matching chain. When opened, the locket revealed a small picture of a younger Sam and a little Jax. It was one of Sam's fondest memories. Not wanting to smother her sister with a moment, she quickly waved the bar tender over again. "Bottoms up!" She desperately hoped that her sister would like it but part of her was waiting for Jax to laugh in her face and toss it aside.

Oh well, here's hoping.

Was it Jax's fault she exuded tight assery? Nope, not at all. She needed to loosen up a little or something. Or actually that might creep Jax out, she could stick with her regular schtick on second thought. And she could keep on boo-hoo'ing on Easton, that was fine and dandy with Jax too. She sure as fuck didn't know how to deal with that stuff. Ho Ho's were a way better therapist than she could ever be.

Jax shrugged one shoulder. "Eh, it's really just another day. Though is an excuse to get drunk and eat cake so I guess they aren't so bad." Not that Jax really needed an excuse for either one. But didn't hurt. She was momentarily distracted by the fact that another round was on the way, as well as rooting around in her pocket for her pack of cigs so the little blue box was revealed. Though the significance of the little blue box was somewhat lost on Jax. She didn't do girlie quite like that and she sure as hell had never done any window shopping at Tiffany's. Mall cops trailed her ass enough as it was.

Shot in hand she looked over at the present. "Dude, another one? What the shit is going on? Did you do something that's going to piss me off later? Someone else kick the bucket?" This was definitely getting weird. Way too many presents and Jax didn't know how in the hell to react to it so she settled with skepticism because that was what she did best.

The drink was downed before Jax reached for the box and and slid the white ribbon off. Jewelry. She stared down at it for a second. First thoughts being... how much could that be pawned for in an emergency, but that particular thought wasn't really entertained though it almost brought a smirk to her face because she knew Sam would shit a brick if she said it out loud. Then of course she took it out and managed to figure out that it was a locket. Hrm. She viewed the pictures inside and refused to get sentimental about it. At least not now.

"Thanks." And then she really did light up the cigarette that she'd been digging for earlier. And that was all she said because honestly she didn't know what to say. Other than taking a long drag from her cigarette and looking aside for a moment. Rendered speechless... didn't happen very often.

Jax really needed to get over this extreme dislike she had for Easton because one day he might officially become family. Yeah, Sam wasn't going to hold her breath for either of them to get along, who was she kidding? But that was a thought for a different day. Sigh.

"This is the last one, relax." Dark eyes rolled as a slight chuckle rolled off her tongue. "And as far as I know no else is dead and I haven't done anything that I know of but who knows." Half of the crap that Jax got pissed about Sam didn't understand but whatever. Trying to figure out her sister was just a headache waiting to happened and so she tried not to whenever possible. It was just safer for everyone that way.

Sam looked a tad bit nervous as Jax opened the present but when the "thanks" finally came, she had to hold back the smile. Didn't want to get too excited over it because it would totally kill the moment. "You're welcome." See? That wasn't too bad now was it? Nah!

"Can we get another round please?" The bartender looked slightly suspicious but on an island of supernaturals tolerances were higher and what did he care really? "So what time do you have to leave to get to your next stop on time?" Sam wasn't going to try to get her to stay any longer than she wanted and that included making sure that she wasn't late for her...date? Heh.

Jax didn't hate Easton. She did think he was kind of a tool and she did hate the fact that he acted like he knew jack and shit about her when eh clearly didn't. He was just like a more annoying accented clone of Sam. Though Sam might have a few redeeming qualities that was still in debate at the moment.

"Good point, probably have done something to piss me off." And wasn't that the truth. Jax couldn't really define it most of the time, well she could but to explain that to Sam would share more of herself that Jax was willing to share most of the time. She didn't like to open old wounds even if it was in the spirit of sorting them out and maybe healing them. Nope. No way. No how.

Yeah yeah yeah. Thanks wasn't so hard to say, Jax knew that fact. Didn't mean she liked to say it. But she had and it was a nice gift and yeah. All that stuff. She just didn't know what to do with it. So tucked into the pocket of her hoodie it went. And her cigarette made a great point of focus. And drinks, oh yes down with the drinks. Though maybe Sam had proved her alcohol tolerance, er... maybe. Though it would be entertaining to see how long she kept up with the shots.

"You paying for these drinks?" Jax asked with a laugh as the next round was poured. Small fortune in tequila lined up in front of them that was for damned sure. "Manny's coming by around 8 I think. Or whenever the pizza he's getting is ready." That was her best guess and Jax really was keeping it casual. "And don't even say anything..." Jax shot her a look. "I can already see what's running through your head."

See, that was the problem. Jax really need to learn to open up a little more or they were never going to be able to move on from this awkward stage. Fortunately for both of them, they would be around for a long time to come and had plenty of time to work things out. Heh, how you liking the whole werewolf thing now, Jax? Just means more quality time with the big sis!

"That I am." Sam reached into her purse again and slid her gold card across the counter. "Might as well keep a tab going." Though to be perfectly honest, Sam wasn't sure how much longer she could keep doing the shots. It wasn't that she was about to fall on her ass or anything, but the stomach could only handle so much tequila in one sitting. Now if they had started off with vodka...well, that was an entirely different story.

A slight nod was given when Jax discussed her plans and she really did try her best to keep the smirk from her face. "What? I wasn't going to say anything." Her best innocent face was put on as she reached for the next shot. Oh yeah, they needed to start slowing down now. "Okay maybe I was going to say that he's pretty cute, but that's it!"

Sorry, she couldn't help herself! But at least she didn't bring up the fact that no matter how many times she called it "hanging out" that it was totally a date and if Manny didn't bring her a present, Sam would have to beat him.

Good luck with that. Jax having warm and fuzzy heart to hearts about her feelings were likely to happen just about the same time Britney Spears stopped being a crazy ho. So not likely. But whatever, Jax was just fine with dealing as is. Well mostly fine with it. More fine with that than having the chats. Lame.

"That's what I like to hear." No way did Jax want to fork over the damage for that. She preferred to get her drink on out of a bottle because hello... way cheaper than paying whatever the fuck it was people overcharged at bars. But Sam had asked and Jax was trying to not be a total bitch. And if we were being honest about it, Jax was doing pretty good. She didn't want to be tanked for later. Nothing said fun like hurling.

Jax yoinked an ashtray and pulled it closer, ashing her cigarette and putting it back to her lips for a moment as she watched Sam do her damn best to not smirk. "Sure you weren't." Jax retorted with an eyebrow raised. She didn't believe that for a fucking instant. That arched brow turned into a look of disgust. "Oh thanks Sam... give him the kiss of death why don't you. Christ."

Damn sisters.

It was interesting to watch Jax's reaction to Sam paying. There was just something about it that was almost a little amusing. Here she was with access to a pretty good sized trust fund, but she wanted nothing to do with it and would continue scraping along because she was stubborn. Sam could understand her not wanting to have anything to do with their parents' money, but stubborn kept you alive on the streets, not comfortable in life. If anything, Jax deserved every penny for how they treated her. No, it wasn't going to make up for it, but why suffer if she didn't have to?

Sam's innocent face could only last so long when she was being wicked and she couldn't help but crack. Maybe that was just around her sister though because she had learned to hold her own back in school. Interesting. "What? What's wrong with me saying that he's cute? It's true, isn't it?" Jax did find him attractive, right?

After one more round of shots, Sam's stomach was getting ready to rebel and she threw her hands up. "Okay, I give up." The buzz was quite nice but that much tequila on not much food just wasn't the best idea. Blech. "I'm afraid if I take another one that it might end up all over the bar and I'd rather not smell like vomit on the way home. I'm sure you can appreciate that, right?"

Some juice was ordered instead and sipped slowly once it was placed in front of her. "Did you want anything else?"
