Kiernan Gallagher ([info]grumpypants) wrote in [info]halcyon_halls,
It was kind of impressive, the work that Sam had managed to do to pull this whole trip off. Kiernan could admit it... he was a little in awe of the whole thing and the girl who did it. She was like a woman possessed, plans that she had worked long and hard on going off to perfection. Or at least as close to perfection as anything could get when a six year old was involved. Somehow Alana always seemed to run on her own time schedule. Kiernan was still getting used to that little genetic quirk in kids. He'd been a little too schedule dependent the majority of his life to really be able to go with the flow when it came to his daughter.

He didn't even try when it came to Sam's sister... that girl really had her own schedule. But he knew that despite all her acerbic words, it made Sam happy that the other girl had voluntarily spent some time with her. Small favors or something like that. And it wasn't like she hung around long. Not that he didn't enjoy second hand smoke and a potty mouth...

Kiernan went along with the plan relatively well considering who it was that she was blind folding. He only put up a minimum of protest as she covered his eyes up. At least he had some other senses to pay attention to as he was put into a cab. "I don't know if I ever told you... but I hate being blindfolded. I always cheated at pin the tail on the donkey as a kid..." Kiernan grumped from where he sat. Alana laughed loudly and announced that if her daddy did it she was SO cheating next time she played that game. Way to go Kiernan.

The car finally came to a stop and Kiernan's ears strained to make sense of where they were but there was just too much of a buzz and he wasn't all that skilled at differentiating all those sounds just yet. He let Sam lead him from the car and breathed a sigh of relief as the blindfold was finally removed from his face. Took just one deep breath to take in all the scents that he remembered from his childhood. Some of the few good memories were from this exact place. He turned to look at Sam and try to express what he wasn't even sure he had words to get out but Alana was smiling broadly and had already grabbed his hand and was running toward the stadium. Ready for her first ball game.

The seats were unbelievable. Kiernan sat down in awe for a minute, watching with all too precise eyesight the flight of the ball as it flew between the pitchers mound to the catchers mitt. "Sam..." he said turning toward her, Alana bouncing happily in the seat next to him. The peanut man was going to be the first big distraction of the night. Kiernan didn't care, he didn't even care about keeping up some ridiculous facade for Alana. Not when... aw hell he didn't feel like putting words to any of it. Felt like he'd ruin it.

"It's perfect. Thank you Sam..." He said before turning his head down and angling it so as to not hit the bill of her hat. The 'ewwww' that Alana said as she spotted him pressing his lips to Sam didn't even bother him.
