Week Eighteen: Tuesday
Who: Evelyn and Ita
Where: Lakeside in the woods
When: Tuesday, Later Afternoon

After being inside all day yesterday, there was no way that Lyn was going to subject herself to that again. Though she had an interesting conversation with a vampire, and got a lot of reading and studying done, today was her day. Everything had closed down in town fairly early, which left her with some free time and thus she had to find something else to do closer to the school. So, despite the fog cover, she decided to tip toe her way through the wooded areas close by.

Granted, it was as thick as she was warned, but Lyn had the advantage of woodland training. And the fact taht she'd come to know this particular area rather well. She could easily pick her way through the trees and brushes. Their pattern was as familiar to her as her own skin. Step here, move there, and this tree...ancient and strong. And this other, gathering it's life from underground water sources. She was getting closer.

Finding the lake wasn't hard, and it was as undisturbed as she had hoped to find it. In fact, the forest itself was eerily quiet. As if the fog had managed to surpress sound as well as some sight. She shed her top easily, revealing the bikini she had snuck on beneath her clothes. It was only moments before she was ready to slide into the water. It was still fairly hot, at least as far as this northwesterner turned Canadian was concerned. And the water was cool to the skin and welcomed.

Lyn took full advantage as she ducked her head beneath the disturbed surface, letting herself sink for a moment before rising up again and breaking through to take a fresh breath of air. She pushed her hair back and swam a little ways into it. It was days like this one, she truly enjoyed being at the school. Even the earth mage could appreciate the liquid refreshment, especially surrounded by such old beauty.

The fog was no problem for Ita. Fog was just air heavy with water, and water she could do. Manipulating such minute droplets was a bit difficult, however, and she only haphazardly moved the fog around, more out of amusement to herself than to any real benefit in finding her way. Occasional giggles broke the dense quiet that hung in the forest. She was trying to find that pool she and Kin had been at last week.

Eventually, she could feel a large body of water ahead of her. Nope, not it. But, oh, it looked so inviting. After a moment, she stripped down to her bra and panties - it was just like a bikini, really - and dove in. After a bit, she could here something moving in the water and, curious, she swam in that direction. The fog was too thick to see through here, and eventually she came close enough to the source of the splashing.

"Hey!" she called out in greeting. "Lovely day, isn't it?" Part of her was joking, since not everyone found such a dark sky pleasant, but most of her was genuine in her enjoyment of the damp weather.

The secondary splash didn't immediately register with Evelyn. It's a fairly nice size lake, but not so big that they could avoid one another. But with her head under water, when she surfaces, she can almost feel a shift in the current, though she's not as intimately as connected to the water as her new water-treading companion.

She turned a moment, her gaze skimmed through the fog which seemed to move so much more fluidly above the gently rolling water. "Hey!" Lyn called back out and headed to the other girl. She smiled, glancing upward. "Beautiful," she replied, if with a slight bit of sarcasm.

"I have to admit, I prefer a bit of sunshine when I come here, but after yesterday, I'll settle for whatever I can get," she smiled. Being trapped inside was not what she thought of as fun. At all. It took a moment, but Lyn tried to place if she should recognize this girl, but maybe it would come to her. Surely another student if she were on school property. The guides seemed to be careful with that sort of thing.

"I'm Evelyn," she introduced herself. "I hope I didn't disturb you. I thought I was the only one desperate enough to wander out this way."

Ita grinned at her sarcasm - she was really mostly serious about it. But then, not everyone appreciated a nice damp day. Ita nodded, "Yes, and the school pools are so chlorinated, they're no fun at all. It was a bummer to be stuck inside all day. Too dull."

"I'm Ita," she smiled. "Oh, no, not at all. And it's not desperate - this a beautiful body of water. Nice and clean. And alive." Ita couldn't sense the life in the water, really, but she could sense how clean it felt. And in her experience, the cleaner the water, the more life in it.

"Why are you at the school?" she asked - her favorite question to pose to people. She wanted to know as much about people as quickly as possible. And she'd never been able to 'compare' powers before.

Fairly observant, Lyn tilted her head, treading within the water. "I prefer this just for the simple fact that I get to be outdoors." She leans back, floating a bit. Water isn't her natural element, but it's one she can appreciate certainly.

"Alive?" She thought about that choice of phrase and glanced around. She couldn't disagree. "I think you're right." She tilted her head, leaning it back so that her hair floats back, cooling her off once again.

Lyn smiled, glad to have someone to talk to. "That's a loaded one," she thought out loud. "I guess I'm here because I needed to know more about who I am and where I come from. You see, I was raised human, though my father's family are mages. We're naturally bonded to the earth. But my mother's people are Fae. Their lifestyle and beliefs are a little different, but similar enough that our cause is the same."

She swam around a little, circling behind and then coming to float again. "What about you? It seems every time I turn around there's someone else interesting to meet."

"Oh, that's so sad. Even though I lived in the human world, my parents taught me lots about my abilities. It was a probably a bit dangerous actually - I never really did like to follow the rules, and I really, really wanted to people what I was when I was little. Good thing I grew out of that," she grinned. When Lyn explained her heritage, Ita immediately craned her neck to see if the young woman had wings. Fae had wings, right? She didn't even stop to think if her actions were rude or not. If she had, she might simply have posed a question, instead of gawking.

"Oh, I'm a water elemental. I can manipulate water and heal a little bit. I'm not very good at healing, but even my father did not have a very strong ability for it. I just hope I can get at least as good as he." To demonstrate her talents, Ita concentrated just a bit on creating a wave behind her new acquaintance, but as it came up to her, it split in two and traveled to either side of them until each part crashed into the shore. Giggling, Ita moved about a little in the water. She'd have to get out soon. Puddling in front of a new acquaintance might just freak her out. And she didn't want to give herself another headache.

Evelyn thought on it for a moment and shrugged. "I suppose so. But my father did the best he could." She thought about it and something occurred to her that hadn't quite before. "I don't think he wanted to talk much about my mother and her people. She died when I was very young." She knew it was painful for him. She smiled slightly, "But my grandmother, she had slightly different ideas. She thought I needed to be more well rounded." And that, she was truly greatful for.

However, hard as Ita might look, there was nothing to see on Evelyn's back. No wings. But then again, depending on how much she knew, they could be hidden by glamour. But noticing the craning of the neck, Evelyn smiled. "Is something wrong?" Maybe she had spourted something she just didn't see.

"A water elemental? Really?" She looked the girl over. No wonder she thought it was a good day before. "This might be your ideal weather," she grinned. She turned, feeling the water shift behind her. Her eyes widened and she turned as the waves did and watched them crash against the earth. "Very nice," she smiled. "That's really neat." She tilted her head, "I've known water mages, they could manipulate the water. But...as an elemental, you must have a stronger bond, yes?"

"Oh, I'm so very sorry." Pausing, her face grew indescribably sad, and she added softly. "My parents were killed in a fire 3 years ago." Smiling a smile that didn't quite reach her eyes this time, the blond continued, "That's good. You need to know where you come from. I want to learn more, to make my parents proud. They would have wanted it that way."

"Nope," the elemental answered. "I was just wondering if you have wings. I think wings are pretty."

"Yep!" Ita answered with pride, nodding at her second comment. "Mmhm. If I don't resist my bond with the water I go all puddly in the water. Which is fine except when people are around. So I practiced a lot when I was little so I could go to pool parties and stuff. But it takes a lot out of me - I can end up with a pretty bad headache. What about you? What can you do?"

"It's alright." And really, it was. Evelyn was so young when she lost her mother, she does miss her, but at times it's hard to place her. Which made memories of her mother that much more special to her. But at the other girl's revelation, she blinked. "Oh. Wow. That must've been hard." She can't imagine having lost her father as well, though her grandmother would have been there for her, she's glad to have him in her life.

"Were both your parents water elementals?" She was curious to meet possible full breeds of their own kind. Especially since the girl before her seemed so perfectly human.

She smiled, trying not to laugh. "Yes, they are. Very beautiful. But I wasn't blessed with them. Which is probably a good thing considering." She swam backwards a bit, "Still, I am able to fly. Somehow, someway, I guess the ability isn't necessarily dependent on the wings."

Evelyn listened, her curiousity definitely on overdrive. "Really? You just completely bond with it and flow into it?" Fascinating. "That must be pretty amazing. I have no idea what it's like to do the same with the earth. I can manipulate plant life, including trees and things. The earth itself, though it's harder for me. My father could cause some minor earthquakes if he thought about it. My grandmother...." She paused and smiled with a shrug of her shoulders. "She could do wahtever she wanted as far I know."

The wounds were still fresh for Ita. She had lost her parents in one fell swoop, suddenly. And it had been intentional - someone had wanted them dead. It wasn't even that their murderer had never been caught. Ita couldn't stand to know about the investigation. It had been painful to hear about it. It was that someone had so maliciously decided to end their lives. "Yeah. It was." The elemental's expression remained sad for a moment longer, but at the next question, a general brightness returned to her features.

"Yes, but they were created. The alchemist who created them, created them for each other. He wanted them to have each other as company, and after he died, they fell in love." It was so romantic, she never tired of telling the story.

"You can fly? Really? That is so cool!" Much as Ita loved the water, being able to fly would be cool. Like a pretty bird - a swan or a peacock!

"Yep! I become a puddle of water. Then, I have to get solid enough to get out of the water and dry off." Now, Ita's curious was spiked. "Ooo, cna you like, talk to plants? Do you make them grow bigger? Or just move? Or grow better?" This girl was really cool!

It all did sound so very romantic to Evelyn's ears. And the girl was nothing, if not a sucker, for a real-life romance. It gave some hope to the world that it was possible. She knew sometimes she was guilty of being a dreamer, but how could she not want a happy ending?

"Yes, I can," she confirmed to the other girl with a smile. "I'm not very good at it, but I can. A pixie here at the school was helping me last term. Now I've at least got the hang of it that I can do it on my own. It's even pretty fun." Which she wasn't quite sure about at first.

A puddle of water? Wow. "I bet that's amazing." She wondered momentarily what it could be like to meld with the earth, to truly feel it. The question posed to her brought her back to the present, "Yes, in a way." Now this was what she was comfortable with. "I can adjust their growth, make alterations, control their shape, and as I get better, I could even control and exploit ground fissures, maybe even cause minor earthquakes." But that will take some time.

Well, it looked like Ita had found a kindred spirit then. The elemental was nothing if not a dreamer. Happy endings were all she could imagine. Even though the road was bumpy, it would certainly lead to paradise.

"That is so cool!" the blond blurted. She even splashed a bit, though she didn't mean to splash Evelyn.

"Yeah, it kinda is, cuz it's a different way of perceiving the world and thinking. Like, water has a consciousness, and I can tap into that. It's odd, but totally natural at the same time." Listening intently, Ita paid serious attention to what the other girl was saying. "Wow, that's really cool. Earthquakes! Oh my gosh, that's kind of dangerous, right? Why would you do that?" She was sure there must be a logical reason if she wanted to do it.

"You really think so?" Evelyn smiled, the other girl's enthusiasm was rather contagious. She swam back again, laughing as the other girl splashed about.

Lyn shook her head, "Trust me, that's not something I can really do. I'm still very young in my powers and abilities." And truthfully, she didn't know that she'd ever be as good as her grandmother, or even her father for that matter. But given time, who knew. Maybe ....

"I don't know that you'd really want to, but there are places on the earth where a release of pressure could prevent a bigger devastation from happening. Some earth mages have helped prevent," and maybe caused, but she'd leave that alone, "some disasters that could have otherwise wiped out entire countries or civilizations."

"Totally! It would be so cool to fly. See things that others can't. And, really be away from people now and then." Despite her effervescence, the water elemental did enjoy some time away from others now and again. It happened most often when she was in a pensive mood. Those moods rarely struck, but when they did, the last thing she wanted was company.

"Oh, wow, I never thought of that. I bet you'd have to be like a geologist or something. Although, you can probably feel if the earth needs it, so maybe not." Pausing to think, she mused aloud, "I wonder if elementals or mages caused tsunamis and stuff. I mean, it's much nicer to think they prevented it. Or could have, you know?" That would be really cool. She should really look into that - maybe there was some sort of elemental, like, emergency services. Go around preventing disasters. That would be awesome!

Tilting back in the water, Ita half- floated on her back. "I should get out soon so I don't get a headache." She was obviously in no rush, however, making no move to actually head toward shore.

Everyone seemed to have a much better perspective on the whole flight thing than Evelyn did. Maybe she should really give it more of a chance. It wasn't that she didn't like it, it was very cool, just difficult to get used to. Maybe it was the desire to have her feet on the ground, two internal natures at war with each other.

"Geology? Maybe I can do that instead of music," she smiled. Strange that it hadn't actually occurred to the girl before. Really, she had no idea what she wnted to be when she grew up. But now that she was 18, she was pretty much grown...at least in her own head. She should really get serious about it.

"That would be amazing. I didn't really think about it myself," she smiled. "I bet those kind of people could do a lot of good." Maybe she should ask her grandmother about such a group and if it existed, surely she would know? Or maybe the teachers at the school. They would have a better pulse on it than anyone else maybe.

Lyn circled her arms, staying comfortably afloat. "Right. The whole merging with the water thing," she did recall. "I don't want keep you or make you uncomfortable. Besides, I was just wanting to hop in for a quick swim." It was one of her favorite spots around here. "Maybe we can talk later. I always like meeting people like you." Elementals. People who understand how it is to have such a fundamental connection to nature.
