Week Advancement: Week Seventeen
Week Seventeen
Dates: Monday July 23rd through Sunday July 29th
Season: Summer 2007
Month: Late July

Announcements:

The study group sign up sheets will remain on the bulletin board outside the library. We encourage all students to take advantage of the many opportunities for learning presented at Halcyon, and also encourage the more senior students to reach out to those less experienced. Any student in need, academically, or otherwise is reminded to turn to their guide teacher. If you are unsure of who your guide is please contact an administrator.

With the departure of Vale Razvan from the Island, the club Heaven and Hell has been sold and is currently under new management. With this transition the favorite hot spot for many students will be closed for a week for renovations.

It's about that time again were-creatures... The full moon falls on Monday July 30th. It’s best that those around the school remember this fact as the week fades into the weekend and nerves get a little tense.

Around the Island

Monday
National Hot Dog Day Bring on the mustard and ketchup! Today is National Hotdog day in the United States. What does that mean here? Not much really, but it can be a nice excuse to get out and have a hot dog. Maybe get a stick and bar-b-que one outside?

Tuesday
Tisha B’Av : Tisha B'Av, the Fast of the Ninth of Av, is a day of mourning to commemorate the many tragedies that have befallen the Jewish people, many of which coincidentally have occurred on the ninth of Av. If you are Jewish and wish to participate in the day of mourning feel free to do so. As always though, be mindful of those that are more sensitive to the holy items that are often attached to religious events.

Friday
National Tree Day: Started in Australia in 1996 it has become the countries largest community tree planting event. So help out the environment and maybe meet a nature nymph or dryad or two who will appreciate your efforts. There will be several tree planting trips in the grounds surrounding the school and the city today. Get out and help!

July is also Hot Dog Month – who doesn’t love a product made up of unidentifiable cow and pig parts. Mmm Mmm!
