Announcements:
The administration wishes to stress the importance of safety in harsh weather. Whether it's rain or sun, either can pose a hazard. Delicate races must be careful of the sun especially, and do not forget to wear protection. Those susceptible to damage by either lightning or heavy rains should be careful to stay indoors during such storms. When there are high winds this warning extends to fae and other insubstantial creatures.
As always... Have fun!
The study group sign up sheets will remain on the bulletin board outside the library. We encourage all students to take advantage of the many opportunities for learning presented at Halcyon, and also encourage the more senior students to reach out to those less experienced. Any student in need, academically, or otherwise is reminded to turn to their guide teacher. If you are unsure of who your guide is please contact an administrator.
Around the Island
Monday National Ice Cream Day - This might be an American holiday created by President Reagan in 1984, but it's a pretty safe bet that most enjoy the frosty treat... supernaturals included. There should be some discounted ice cream sales around the city and maybe if you're lucky, there will even be some free cold treats around the city in honor of the day.
Thursday Day of Bad Omens: It falls each year on July 18th, in Rome it was a day of a regular festival. Though centered around the Roman defeat in Allia (390 BC) that led to the sack of Rome by the Gauls it has sense evolved into something more similar to April Fool's Day. As always, there will be a festival in the city. Beware the bad omens!
Friday Racial Harmony Day: Just what the name implies. A centuries old celebration among brave supernaturals willing to cross those barriers and worked toward peace with the other races. It is because of days like this, and the hard work and sacrifice of many who went before that we now have such unity as we see today in Bacalao and other similar places in the world.
In honor of this special day we encourage all students and staff to take upon themselves the weight of another race. Perhaps team up with another from the opposing house from which you might learn from. Fire demons team up with water elementals, elves befriend the vampires, and so forth. After the last class there is to be a special banquet celebrating our many cultures and our unity.
July is also Tennis month. Why not give the sport a try? We do think you might love it. The school does sport a court or two, and even a few rackets for you novices.
