Entry tags:ita, kin

Week 15: Friday Evening
Who: Ita and Kin
What: An accidental meeting
Where: In the kitchen

Despite the discouraging catastrophe with her surprise breakfast for House Aquatic, Ita was by no means discouraged from the kitchen. She'd had fun the night before with Sasha. And tonight, she had to prepare for her picnic with Xander tomorrow. She'd found an interesting recipe stashed away in one of her many cookbooks. Granted, it was one that hundreds of other people had, but it was so unique she was fairly certain that she had no risk of Xander having ever had it before.

Dressed in a long, flowing, gauzy green and blue tie-dye style skirt and a short sleeved matching blue and green top, she headed down to the kitchen with a backpack stuffed with supplies and ingredients. She'd even shoved her mini George Foreman in there. Necessary for the filet mignon she would be grilling.

Upon reaching her destination, she followed her usual ritual of filling up an empty sink with water and moving the fire extinguisher close to her work area. First, she prepared the tartlets she'd have for dessert tomorrow's picnic. Cranberry and apple - a nice little twist on a traditional pie. She didn't bother making her own crust. Aunt Lissa never had, and her cooking was just fine. She had fun cutting little stars out of the dough and using them for the top crust. In fact, she giggled a bit as she did so. They were cute.

Popping them in the oven, she set to making the pear and onion relish. Her mouth watered thinking about how it would taste tomorrow. What a neat mix of flavors! Add the bleu cheese dressing and the filet mignon to the wrap, and it was sure to be an interesting meal. And, if she didn't like it, she'd never have to try it again. Although, hopefully, Xander would at least like it.

With that in mind, Ita set to cutting up the various ingredients for the relish, and prepping the spices and other flavorings. She plugged in the George Foreman and waited for it to heat up while she chopped. She'd even make the dressing herself. Well, sort of. She had a cheat for making bleu cheese dressing.

Kin always didn't need food, as in human food, to function on. But when there is sweets involved, well then, there is no way he can ever say no to them. Its almost like a drug - just it isn't addictive ( in a bad way ).

He always made these little bento lunches full of sweets for the day before. Something to snack on inbetween classes, if he couldn't make it to the cafeteria. Because there were times where he'd totally forget to feed. It happens. Having a mind in the clouds is never a smart thing.

Like it was right now, actually.

A little whistle of a tune was vibrating against his lips as he made his way toward the kitchen. Sneaking around as if he was going to get into trouble at any moment. He never liked being seen by people, even if he wanted to try and make friends. A shadow among the people. That's what he always called himself.

And as he backed his way into the kitchen, he didn't think anyone else would be here. So, when he turned around, a gasp of surprise passed his lips now, what books he was holding fell to the floor with a loud thud bouncing off the walls. Kin had a moment of staring at the other before apologizing in Japanese, repeatedly too. As well as falling into a crouch to grab the books he dropped. At least it wasn't him falling this time. He's been doing that a lot lately. Bumping into people and automatically falling to his butt.

As far as Ita was concerned, vampires were missing out big time if they didn't snack on regular food now and then. Maybe, if she'd thought about it, she could have made some dishes with blood just for the vamps. Nothing hot though. Blood degraded when it wasn't refrigerated, right? That's why it was kept in coolers at hospitals and such.

Ita was definitely not a shadow among people. It wasn't so much that she wanted to be the center of attention, so much as she was just impossible to miss. Her boundless energy made her a vibrant person. She was a social butterfly, certainly.

Ita was used her enhanced senses, unlike some of the newer supernaturals, and she was well aware that someone else was entering the kitchen. Having grown up among humans, though, she had learned to wait until the appropriate time to acknowledge another person's presence, and was startled when the young man dropped his books. Ita hurried over to help him, dropping her knife and wiping her hands on her jeans. Bending to help, she was confused at the foreign words, but recognized them as Japanese from a few too many anime viewings. "Um, konichiwa?" she attempted. She wasn't even sure if that was appropriate for what he was saying. But it was appropriate for an introduction. She thought.

It would be interesting to taste food with blood in it. Well, you can do a steak as raw as you could with blood oozing out of it when you plunge the fork in, but anything else besides that would have to be tried. Kin always stuck to the meats, no veggies, or other things your mother would yell at you about. If his mother saw him now, she'd probably be even more upset. Wouldn't surprise him, but it would make him smile a little.

He looked when she said something, making him finally let out a snort. Gathering his books and standing slowly. Only to put said books on a nearby counter. "Sorry. I easily slip into Japanese when I'm startled." He said softly, bowing a little out of habit.

And as he straightened himself out, he noticed what was going on here. She was cooking. Why didn't he smell it before he came in here? Oh, that's right, he was off in the clouds, thinking about things he really shouldn't. "I interrupted you, didn't I? I'm really sorry. I didn't know anyone would be in here." Frowning a little, he brought a hand up to his cheek. Lightly scratching at the skin, and hoping the blush wasn't seen.

A bit unnerved, by the snort, Ita wasn't certain if he was annoyed or amused. She hoped he wasn't annoyed, she was trying to be nice. "Oh, don't worry. But I'm afraid that's the extent of my Japanese, so I'm glad you speak English, too." She smiled at the bow. It was cool to see how other people greeted each other in other countries. Even if she had no talent for languages, she loved learning about other cultures.

"You didn't interrupt," she said. She wasn't cooking anything that was terribly sensitive, so there was no concern on her part. Going back to her relish, she picked up the knife and continued cutting. Noticing the grill was ready, she set the filets to cook, pausing in her chopping. "If I'm in your way, let me know. I'm using that oven over there," she indicated with the knife, "and that sink is filled with water. Otherwise, feel free to use whatever you want. This isn't my kitchen, after all." She grinned over at him. "Oh, I'm Ita by the way. I'm a water elemental. What's your name?"

Kin found it to be cute. Watching other people try their best to pronounce different words in his language. Some can't even do it, which confuses him. It isn't really that hard. Then again, he grew up in the country, and that was his first language. Now english. That is a tad bit difficult. The grammar is somewhat different, but he is still trying. Speaking it has gotten better. She understood him with his thick accent. So, all those teachings paid off.

And hearing what she said made both eyebrows raise, right away thinking he could teach this girl Japanese. That would be up to her though. And he wasn't really going to voice what he was thinking. He never did.

"I'm still learning." He replied, smiling a little. The snort from before was from amusement. He was never good at expressing his emotions so well. Looking shy and closed up was the best way to show himself off. It always made people nervous and want to run away. Sadly.

Kin's eyes brightened at what she said. Thank god! He really didn't want to interrupt her with whatever she was doing. His amber eyes shifted toward the stove she pointed at, smiling, and thinking of what she could be making. He didn't want to use his sense of smell, the surprise of it always made him giddy in the biggest boyish way ever. "What are you making?" He asked then, moving into the kitchen more. His backpack resting against his books. "And my name is Kin." A water elemental? Never met one of those before.

...Great. He was treating her like a thing. Taking in a deep breath, and letting it out in a low sigh. Hopefully she didn't realize he was cursing at himself inwardly. "That's amazing. I never met an elemental before."

Ita was not a talented scholar at all. And languages confused her more than anything else. Even math made some sense - fractions and conversions were necessary for cooking. But, languages were entirely different. She wasn't really an expert in English as it was.

And it was unlikely that his timidity would make her run away. It would only make her reach out to him more. No matter how long it took, Ita was patient when it came to people. Everyone needed a friend, and she was willing to be that friend. More than willing. Eager.

"Well, this," she said gesturing toward the chopped mess in front of her, "is going to be pear and onion relish. In the oven, I have cranberry apple tartlets, which..." she sniffed the air, "will be ready in a few moments."

"Well, it's a pleasure to meet you, Kin. I actually made extra tartlets, so if you're planning on hanging around, you can have one." Ita smiled. Food always helped with making friends. It was customary to share food as a gesture of welcome in most cultures, wasn't it?

"We're not so different from humans," she answered cheerily. "I mean, unless we're in our element. I get all shimmery and watery. But otherwise, I bleed red and everything." She flashed a cheery smile. Had she known Kin was a vampire, she might have chose a different turn of phrase. But as it was, she felt it fitting. He might have gotten the impression she bled water or something.

"I'm sorry, I didn't catch what you are?" she asked politely. It was so cool being around these supernaturals. With that, she wiped her hands on her jeans again, and went over to the oven to pull out the tartlets. Yep, perfectly golden crust, and gooey filling.

Kin was eager to know what she was making. He could smell it, of course, but it was something he has never smelled before. Japanese food is completely different from any other food around the world. But there were some dishes he knew that Americans and Europeans seem to love so much. And that would be pizza. Mmm, pizza. He actually loved that dish. The crust that was deep, oh yeah, that was his all time favorite. Give him the meat lovers one and he will be in heaven for the rest of the night.

His eyes shifted toward what was in front of her, one delicate shaped eyebrow raising at what she was saying. He had no idea, but he was trying his best to not show his confusion. It was getting harder and harder as the seconds ticked by. When she said something about a.. Tartlets, he made a face. Not one of disgust, but of confusion. Even his nose wrinkled at the thought of it. Smelled good, but when things smelled that nice, they weren't always amazing. "It's a pleasure to meet you too, Ita." He did another bow as he spoke, finally moving toward a stove he was hoping she wasn't using. "Oh, I probably will. Baking things tonight for my lunch tomorrow." And that's all he was able to make. His grandmother loved to bake and she always loved having him by her side.

A bright smile was given. Yes, he really had a strange thought that water elementals bleed water. All the others, well, they bleed whatever their element was. It was a silly thought, but it appeared out of nowhere! Thankfully she said something about that.

Yeah, here came the part where he went throwing bans around or making them slam together. It was because of what she asked. Still, to this day, it kind of bothered him when people asked. Ashamed much? "Um.. I'm.. A vampire," he whispered softly. Laying out what he almost dropped and getting th needed ingredients to make his mini cupcakes.

Noticing his confused face, Ita chuckled a bit and explained, "The pear and onion relish will be a topping for a sandwich. It's rather an unusual recipe, so don't feel like you're out of the loop. And tartlet is French for small pie." She lifted the tray a bit so he could get a good look. "When it cools, you can have one. Even got enough for you to take one on the road, if you'd like."

"Ooo, what are you baking?" She loved swapping recipes, if he was up for that.

Ita paused. He was uncomfortable. She was silent as she mulled this over. She herself loved her supernatural abilities. She suddenly realized, though, that it wasn't pleasant for everyone. It had never really occurred to her. She couldn't imagine anyone turning someone against their will - who would do such a terrible thing? But then, werewolves were kind of out of control, right? It must be the situation for most of them, to have not wanted it. After a moment, she turned to him and said softly, "I'm sorry. I don't know what happened, but you're unhappy, and I'm sorry for that." She didn't see any shame in his race. Just sadness in that he was unhappy.

The look of confusion finally disappeared when she explained it. How sweet of her. For a moment there, he thought she wouldn't say anything, and have him try it, without knowing what he was putting in his mouth. What if it was poison?! Well, that really wouldn't do much to him.. Such a bad thought to think of, Kin. Should smack yourself later for this. Which he probably won't. But the thought was there!

"Pie is good." He replied, amber eyes lighting up to become a soft yellow within the light. It didn't surprise him, after awhile, that people thought he was some kind of werewolf. He read that their eyes turned yellow or whatever when they turned. Was that the truth? He didn't take a class on them, since it didn't really matter. "And I would love to take one on the road. It's great, knowing another cook. I'm meeting them way too much lately." A light laugh could be heard as he went back to doing what it was he was baking. Thinking of Sasha made him smile as wide as his mouth could.

"Hm?" See, absorbed in his own little thoughts again. Kin looked up and over to her, blinking several times before looking down at everything he had laid out, till it finally clicked and made him do this "oh" expression. "I was thinking of making cupcakes. That's really all I was taught. You know, the cream filled kind. But I love putting strawberry jelly in there instead." If anyone took a close look to what he said, it almost made it look like he liked biting into a person. The cupcake being said person and the jelly being the blood. He wasn't making it look like that, but it was a funny thought if it ever crossed anyone's mind.

And when she asked what he was, and when he answered, it felt like the world around them was suddenly shattering. That was all in his head, of course. The only thing that bothered him the most.. Was why, why was it taking him forever to calm himself down and just smile about it?

Kin finally shook his head, gathered himself like he was a soldier on the battlefield, and looked over to Ita. A soft smile was given, no fang showing or anything. "It's okay, really. I should get used to people asking me that." He couldn't help but let out a little chuckle. He almost did say it was his fault, but that would cause the both of them to go into a 'this isn't your fault. Yes it is' type argument.

It could be sensed. The feeling was thick in the air.

What could you do to make the tension disappear? Oh! It was like a light bulb exploded over Kin's head. An idea strike him so hard he was smiling from ear to ear. "Would you like to try one of my cupcakes when I'm finished? It's only fair."

Ita would have laughed if he'd suggested she was going to poison him. It was so ridiculous - so very not the kind of thing one would expect of her. If she didn't like you, expect a direct attack, not something subversive like poison. And besides, she was so bubbly and friendly most people wouldn't expect her to be confrontational at all. She wouldn't even have been insulted - merely amused.

His eyes were unique. And for a moment Ita found herself staring. But she did remember herself and stopped before it became rude. Grinning, Ita chuckled, "Can never know too many cooks. Then you get the most diverse menu!"

Watching his expression change, Ita determined she liked how expressive Kin was. It was interesting to watch the various expressions flit across his face. "Ooo, the jelly sounds yummy. Like a jelly donut, but lighter. My Aunt Lissa used to put these ornaments on her Christmas tree that I thought looked like jelly donuts cuz they were red in the middle. But then, I guess I look at a lot of things like food.

"Oh, I'd love to! Thank you so much!" By now, her steaks were ready, and she removed them from her George Foreman and set them on a plate to cool. Then she set to mixing up her blue cheese dressing. Everything would be ready before tomorrow so she didn't have to get up ridiculously early to get the picnic ready. Once the dressing out of the way, Ita complimented Kin, "It smells really good. Water elementals have keener senses than humans, much like vampires." Even if he was just working on the batter, she could smell it.

Once he got to know something, his first thought about them would disappear in and instant. He'd even make himself forget about how he judge them so cruelly. Its rude for him to even do such a thing, even though he tells himself he doesn't do it. He isn't like that. But if you think about it, everyone is in their own little way. Kin would be on the lower level of the chart. While there are some who are the kings ( or queens ) or judging. Once he knew Ita better, he really would slap himself mentally for thinking harsh things.

It didn't really bother him if she was staring. To tell you the truth, he was used to it. There were japanese men and women who had blue eyes. Though they weren't pure japanese. There was a mix of german, english, or others. He was pure. As pure as they could come. The only thing he changed about himself was his hair. Kin smiled toward her. Showing he really didn't mind the stare. Made his self-esteem feel good for once.

"Oh? How cute." He replied. Finishing up his cupcakes and finally using a bag with a little cut at the end, digging into the cupcake to fill it in the center piece. Put too much and it might explode in the oven. That's what his grandmother always said. "I used to try and nibble on the the plastic fruit my Grandmother used to love to collect." He was idly chatting as he finished with the filling. Brushing his hands upon his jeans, not really caring if he got them messy. Baking was like painting to him.

And as he checked to see if the oven was one, he noticed it wasn't. Oops. He was too busy speaking to Ita and trying to not get all nervous. A frown set in, making those laughing lines look sad. This wasn't going to make him look stupid. He wasn't going to allow it. His attention went to her and then to the oven as he turned it to the right temperature, using his body the best he could to hide the fact he forgot to do the most important thing.

"No problem." There was that bright smile, fangs showing and all. No threat in the bare of them either. His smiles were always wide like that. "Really? I need to read up on elementals more. They... I mean you, sound really interesting." Aha! He corrected himself quickly this time. He was starting to learn.

Ita rarely judged anyone negatively, unless they gave her a blatant reason to. Even those people who lacked social grace didn't earn a harsh judgment. They needed compassion even more than other people as far as Ita was concerned. Make a hateful remark though, and expect a reaction like an ocean under a storm. And equally unforgiving.

"That's really cute," Ita giggled at the story about the plastic fruit. She loved little anecdotes like that. Reminded people they were flawed, and that it was ok to be that way. Happy little reminders.

Ita didn't notice anything about the stove. She had started packing up the prepared food and filled another sink to do dishes. She didn't empty the filled sink because Kin was now cooking and she wanted to keep up the fire extinguishing measures. "If you have anything you want washed, I'll take care of it while I'm at it."

Chuckling a bit, she said, "Well, if you want to learn more about me, you should hang around me more. If you want to learn more about elementals, however, I'll answer all your questions." She smiled disarmingly, showing she wasn't upset. She was pretty much teasing anyway.

Heating up the oven didn't take that long like he expected it to. Must be because he was in the company of someone and not his own thoughts. He listened to her, leaning against the counter with his arms crossed against his chest. Nodding here and there to what she was saying. His mouth opened, showing he was about to answer, but the buzzer went off. Made him jump a tiny bit. But he covered that up with his fast little twirl. Taking the baking sheet with the cupcake batter in hand, and slowly pushing it onto the first rack once he opened the oven door. With no timer in sight, he decided to keep them in check in his head. Multi-tasking was one of his favorite things.

Talking about the past, the best things about it that is, was fun. Amusing more like it. Speaking about his grandmother of all people would make him laugh and smile for the rest of the day.

"Uh.." Kin looked around and remembered the bowl he used to mix the ingredients in. "Here we go." It couldn't be helped that his finger dipped in there quickly. Taking a finger full to his mouth and sucking upon it as he handed the bowl over hesitantly. The batter was so good! "Once I'm done with the cupcakes, I'll throw that into it as well."

He smiled around his finger. A little shy one if you want to call it. Ita really wanted him to hang around her? Really? That made him a bit giddy inside. That dorkish smile making it known he liked that idea a lot. Even the slight nod told her so. "That's sounds like a great plan. I don't have that many friends around here." Was that a terrible thing to say? It did make it seem like he was an outsider. Anti-social all the way!

Ita took the bowl and added it to the dishes in the sink, taking a swipe of batter before dropping it in. "Mmm, if the final product is as good as this batter, it'll be an awesome cupcake." She even gave him a wink. Ita couldn't help but giggle at Kin. The cute little grin was endearing. Kin was a pretty cute guy - shy and sweet it seemed.

"Well, I love people. You're welcome to visit me in my House, too. Not supposed to, right, but who cares? Otherwise, I have classes during the week like everyone, and I'm free on the weekends. What do you like to do? Aside from bake cupcakes?" she grinned.

Ita didn't care that he was an outsider. She really did like people. All kinds of people. And since Kin didn't seem like a bad person, he was a-ok in her book. It would be fun to actually hang out with him. Vaguely she wondered about her conversation with Jillian - about what it would be like to let a vampire feed off of her. But she shook the thought away quickly. Kin probably wasn't the guy to ask - he was so unhappy about being a vampire.

Finishing up the dishes, Ita set them into a strainer and turned to give Kin her full attention. "So, any questions? Now that I'm free to talk about what I am, I'd love to." She flashed a winning smile.

Kin couldn't help but look away as he smiled. Normally he wouldn't do something like that, but a fine little blush started to creep it's way up his neck and settle in his cheeks. At least, he felt like he was blushing. He never really did look into a mirror to see if he really could or not. When he drank blood it was as clear as day.

An invitation to a girl's room, huh? That was something new. If Kin had any close guy friends, he could hear them in the background, cheering him on to go all the way. But seriously, he wasn't anything like that. Which is probably another reason why he doesn't have friends like that. Old-fashioned to the very core. "Oh? You know, I never really snuck around before. I'll feel like a rebel afterwards," he replied.

With a quick glance to his watch, just to see how much longer those cupcakes needed to stay in there, he tried to figure out what else to say to what she asked. It was obvious with what to say, but how to say it? I'm a painter. No. That wouldn't work. I paint scenery. Eh, that would make him look weird, wouldn't it? Oh, well. Might as well go with whatever. "I usually paint. As well as read." Sticking that in there worked perfectly.

He couldn't help but look at his watch again. Not wanting to see the weird look he thought she might make to what he said. If only his watch was a digital one, he could use that timer some have. Would be easier for all of this. But he still grabbed the pot holders while opening the oven with his free hand, grabbed the pan quickly, and lightly dropped them on the pot holder he had laying there.

As he turned the oven off and brushed his hands upon his jeans ( worst habit in the world ), he looked to her and gave her a soft smile. "Um, questions.. Trying to think here." Kin laughed softly. Laughter had a way of slipping out when he didn't want it to. "Do you.. transform into your element? When you're in it, I mean."

Ita couldn't help but giggle. "Never snuck around, huh? Stick with me and I'll have you totally corrupted." She might have been totally sweet, but she was a bit of a rebel. If she had been born in the right era, she really would have been a hippie.

"Oh, you paint?! That's awesome. What do you paint? I have no artistic talent. Well, I mean, I can do like crafty stuff. But not drawing or painting." Ita's expression showed a bit of admiration. Artistic types awed her. She didn't have that kind of talent and she could definitely watch someone paint or draw for eyes, watching as a blank page became something beautiful.

Really, wiping your hands on your jeans was not bad habit - Ita did it all the time! She had to remind herself not to when she wasn't wearing jeans because she would ruin her nicer clothes. "Oh! I do. It takes concentration to keep this form. But I definitely turn into a little puddle. It's not like instantaneous. But I have to be fully immersed, and if I stop concentrating, I become water. Like, tomorrow, I'm learning how to surf and I'll have to concentrate a lot."

"Anything else?" Ita couldn't help but eye the cupcakes as they chatted. They smelled decadent.

Oh my. Was it just him, or was he truly seeing the side of Ita a lot of people really don't? Maybe they do, but he really thought this lovely girl was all innocence and lollipops. Okay, not lollipops, but he couldn't help adding the sweets in there. A lollipop sounded good right about now too. Think about those things later.

Kin really couldn't help the look of pure shock because of what she said. Corrupt him will she? He could see so many things, bad things mostly, which made him think of himself as the dirtiest person ever. So, thankfully she said something else. It made all his thoughts turn to a different direction. A pure one too.

"I paint scenery. But I'd love to boost my horizon." Was that how Americans say it? Probably not, but at least he tried. "And you are talented. Cooking is a sort of talent. As well as art. Have you seen those people on tv make really neat things out of food? I wish I could do that," he said. Moving from the counter finally, and feeling his whole side go slightly numb from the way he was standing. How long was he like that?

He was able to grab a cupcake then, trying to fight off the weird feeling in his side, and handing it to her while listening. It was amazing to hear her answer. But it would be really cool to see it happen. "Really? I hope you can do it. I'd love to see that happen. But being in a pool with you might be a bad idea," he teased, before giving a slight shrug. "I really can't think of anything else. You answered my most important question that kept nagging me."

Lots of guys thought dirty things around Ita. Didn't help that she wasn't flustered by those thoughts. In fact, she could even encourage them. She loved to flirt, and even fool around. But Ita was innocent. She had very romantic ideas about love, and she was saving herself. She was also a bit innocent in that she had no fear. It wasn't that she was adrenaline junkie seeking thrills - she just wasn't scared of many things, even when, perhaps, she should have been.

Ita beamed when he said cooking was an art. She totally thought so. Cake decorators were incredibly talented. And part of making a dish truly delectable was making it look good when it was served. Sure, it might taste the same, but perhaps food was the one art form that involved all 5 senses. Ok, well, maybe hearing was out, but certainly the others were involved.

Chuckling, Ita explained, "I don't like pools. All the chlorine makes the water feel... stale, I guess." With that she took a bite from the cupcake and made a deep, "Mmm... This is awesome, Kin! I love the jelly filling. Really." She continued munching away on the delicious treat as she went over to the sink, filled just with water, and emptied it. No fire danger now, it was safe to empty it. She also put the fire extinguisher away. "But if you ever wanted to go swimming, the beach is awesome, I bet, and I'm sure there are plenty of rivers and lakes around, too. We could go exploring sometime. Ooo, on a full moon you could bring your paints - wait, no... They keep us indoors on a full moon, don't they? Darn it." Furrowing her brow, Ita tried to rethink her plans. How could they do this?

While Ita munched on the cupcake, he went off to place the rest of the sweets away. Though, he had to walk all the way to his backpack and get the tubeware out. No, he doesn't always walk around with that. It would look strange, now wouldn't it?

He looked over in her direction then, smiling softly as he gently placed the cupcakes into straight lines. What he brought down with him was big enough to hold 12 of them. That usually lasted him for a week. Unless he was a pig for some reason and ate all of them within a day or two.

"True. I can see why pools would be disgusting to swim around. I'm usually fine in them, but I always stay in the shallow end." Kin was telling the truth. The smile showed it all.

The smile grew wider at what she said about the cupcake. When he got back to his room, he'll have one before falling asleep. That is, if he will be sleeping.

He nodded toward what she was saying. "Yeah. From what I remember reading and hearing, no one is allowed outside on the full moon. I know there is a room, within the school, where there is nothing but windows. I went there to paint some of the scenery. Never thought about painting the full moon, though." The lid was safely placed on, making the little snapping noise he was too familiar with. What baking sheet he used was slipped into the sink quickly, and having him scoot closer to it. He felt bad that she was doing all the dishes. Getting the last one was a nice gesture, to him at least. "Would you really go swimming with me at night?" he asked, looking over his shoulder and toward her.

"Why only the shallow end?" Ita guessed maybe he didn't know how to swim, or that he was afraid of deep water. Lots of people were, and it didn't bother her. They had valid reasons, many of them. And if he didn't know how to swim, she could teach him. Really, what better teacher than a water elemental?

"Well, it's just that the full moon would let you see the landscape really well, and I bet it's really pretty. All ghostly, and pale and white, and shades of shadows..." She shrugged. She was no artist - maybe it was a horrible idea.

Watching him finish up the last dish, Ita leaned against the counter. "Of course. Why not? It would be fun." Besides, if you get bitey, I'll just turn into my watery self, she thought, a grin playing on her lips. She wasn't seriously concerned that he would. He seemed upset by what had happened to him, and she doubted that he was anything less than responsible because of that. If he asked, she might be inclined to let him get bitey. But she figured he wouldn't.

Kin let out a light snort. More amused with what his answer will be than what she asked. "Because... I can't swim." Yep. He couldn't swim. There was a pool in his high school, as well as college, but he always stayed at the shallow end, whenever there was a P.E class that dealt with the pool, of course. Or he never showed up. With other activities he always excelled. Thank those lessons for helping him pass.

Hearing her talk about the full moon in such a way, made him think about his life. That was how he was. Exactly. All ghostly, pale, and white. The shadows representing his life and what he hated so much about it.

It actually made him smile.

What he used was put back in the spot where he got it from, after drying it of course. Closing what cabinets he left opened, since all his attention was on Ita and the cupcakes, before finally fixing those amber eyes upon her. If they could sparkle, the probably were. All because she was making him feel like he was wanted, needed, and not a monster his maker tried to turn him into. "You're right. It would be fun," he nodded. "With these hot summer days and all, a nice dip in the cool water at night would fee refreshing. You could teach me how to swim." But he laughed after saying that. Trying to joke, but not joke. Almost trying to nudge a request for help in there. Would she get it? Hopefully. He was always slow or beating around the bush with asking for help.

Noticing his smile, Ita was pleased that she had hit upon a good idea. She thought it was all rather mysterious and beautiful, even a bit romantic, painting a moonlit landscape. It would be cool if he did one, but she'd love to see his other work, as well. Artists were amazing people.

She had already determined she'd teach him how to swim as soon as he said he couldn't, she smiled broadly, "Of course I'll teach you to swim! Just, prepare to swallow a bit of water. Everyone does. I do my best to prevent that, but it always happens." She'd taught a number of her friends to swim. Of course, they didn't realize how much of their first attempts were assisted by magic. But Kin could know, and that would be cool. She loved being able to share this part of her life with other people. Especially since it was the part that reminded her most of her parents.

"Just let me know when you want to go for your first lesson, and we can go adventuring. We can even pack a little picnic if you want." Of course anything she did revolved around food. It only made sense.

If the time ever came where she would venture into his room, he wouldn't mind showing her all the paintings he had made and hung them up. Having a room to himself had endless possibilities. He could do whatever he wanted to. Well, not whatever. Punching walls and making dents in them wasn't a good thing to do. And he doesn't do it. He might have some anger issues with a certain woman, but he doesn't let it out on anyone but himself. Sad, isn't it?

Kin's eyes went a bit wide at what she said. Prepare to swallow a bit of water? He repeated to himself. Oh great, what a thought to think of. Though he started to calm a little when hearing "everyone does". Didn't really make all the paranoia to disappear, just some. "Well, let's hope I don't splash around like an animal dying.." He was half joking when saying that.

"Are you free in two weeks? I have an art project to finish next week. But after that, I'm totally free." Amazing how he was trying to make plans with someone. Yeah, he didn't trust anyone right off the bat, but he was trying to do his best to make friends. You don't always have to trust them right away, though some seem to. Was it the right thing to do? Was it human of you to do that? If you were human that is.

Ita had no problem putting dents in people who pissed her off. Luckily, those people tended to be assholes who deserved it - intolerant, bigoted, ignorant assholes. At least, that's how she saw it. Other than that, she was peaches and cream to everyone else. Of course, using your fists to show your disapproval probably wasn't that healthy, either.

Chuckling, Ita said, "No worries, I'm a good teacher. You might, at first, but we'll quickly correct that." Smiling to assure him, Ita tried to show him that it was nothing to be concerned a bit.

"Totally. Remind me on the journals ok? Or hunt me down in person. Then I can make us a picnic and everything. Um, do you drink? I usually like to have wine. But we can eat after the lesson. Drinking and swimming is a bad idea, just like drinking and driving," she giggled.

There was an itching little feeling on the back of his neck that he will have nightmares about swimming. When you think of something all day, you'll either dream about it that night or some other night. It usually happened with him a lot. But they were nightmares more than dreams. Was that bad?

Kin brought his hand up and tabbed a finger against the chin. This gesture was always done whenever he thought of something. Even his eyes went off to the side, as if he was staring at whatever was there. "I don't think we have any classes together. And I usually stay in my room, unless there is classes or I need to go somewhere." He looked to her then and smiled a little. "I guess it will be through journals. Hope you don't mind," he added then, giving a slight shrug, and the look of sorry written all over his face.

Well, there was something else he learned. She liked wine. He liked wine. The only thing he'd actually drink, besides blood. Soda, orange juice, or any other kind of drink out there tasted so bland. Kin gave her the biggest smile he could muster. "A picnic with wine sounds splendid." Of course, he usually didn't get drunk unless he drank five bottles. It only took about three with the hard liquor. And yes, he literally sat there the one day after being turned, and drank till he felt trashed.

With that smile still upon his lips, he moved to get his book bag on one shoulder, and holding the container with the cupcakes in both hands. How do you say, "I need to get going and study" and be polite about it? He always felt awkward saying good bye. Which was why he was starting to do his little fidgeting moves with his feet.

Ita would have felt terrible if she'd known she was instigating nightmares for him. Swimming should be fun! "Course I don't mind," she smiled.

It didn't take much for Ita to get drunk. Her smaller than average frame probably played a large part in that, and as she was human for all intensive purposes, she was quite the lightweight. And while Kin might have remained sober, it would be a bad idea for his swimming instructor to be drunk, especially if she were going to be using magic. She had amused herself a few times while drunk by applying her magics, and while it was amusing as hell, it was also a total catastrophe.

Smiling at his awkward attempt to leave, Ita said, "Well, guess I should get back to my room." As if she'd study on a Friday night. Pfft. With that, she gave him a little wave, and headed on out the door. He really was a sweet guy, it seemed. She wondered what it'd be like to kiss him. Really, she was quite boy crazy. Maybe midnight swimming lessons would be rather romantic. At the thought, she couldn't but grin as she made her way to her room.

Kin smiled that bright smile of his, fangs baring and all. Really can't hide it, unless someone found some way to do it, and if so, where can he find that person and ask for their guidance? A little nod was given to what she said, though, he kept looking to the door and then down to his feet. How old was he? He felt like a little sixteen year old with his first crush. Not a bad thing, but he really didn't want to feel like this. He should be a man with these things. Be like Tarzan and make that wild sound to make the women melt. Okay, maybe not that roar that he does, but taking charge of things. Plus, smacking his chest as hard as that man does would hurt a lot. No thank you.

Ah, crap. That feeling of awfulness was dancing up his spine. Almost making him want to slouch forward and mope like a little emo kid. His hair was almost like the style, kind of. All he needed to do was dye it black and really apply the eyeliner. Yeah!

.... No. Not happen.

He really couldn't help the frown that appeared as he watched her leave the kitchen. He probably looked cute, standing there with a frown, holding a container full of cupcakes and his backpack on one shoulder. But of course, he didn't find it cute. The only thing he felt right now as he waited there, listening to her walk away, was guilt. Guilt of not talking more. Guilty that he didn't ask to walk her to her room ( even though he just thought of doing that ). And of course, guilty for not speaking up and saying he needed to go.

But once he knew she was out of hearing range, Kin finally moved out of the kitchen before anyone else felt like wandering in. Now he will have to say something to her about Friday. Swimming shouldn't be all that bad. So he makes a complete idiot out of himself the first night, it happens, right? Keep thinking positive thoughts and that smile that is there right now, will stay there till the time he gets to see her again!

Though, does this whole thing count as a date or just friends hanging out? Hopefully teaching someone to swim isn't a date. At least, that was what he was hoping.
