Week 15: Monday Morning
Who: Xander and Kalli
Where: Cove on the west side of Island
When: Monday Morning, just after dawn around 6am

Now this was more like it. The demon had been ‘good’ for far too long in that school, and there was nothing like old habits to bring the spirits up. Xander had found what he thought was the perfect spot on the island. Of course, he would have to look across the island for other coves, but this one wasn’t too far from the school, and he could hit the beach and still head back to school in time for morning classes. Which, at least for his morning run made it the ideal beach.

It helped that the waves weren’t all that bad either. The currents outside of the cove combined to create a good, solid wave system. They might not have been the largest waves he ever surfed, but they were good enough for his needs. Plus, the cove was on the west side of the island, so he didn’t have to worry about the sun coming up and blocking his line of sight. And no rocks in the water, at least none he found with his exploratory searching cruise. He was sure he’d find some sooner or later, he always did.

For the past hour, Xander had been running the waves. Ever since the sun had come up over the horizon, he was there and riding. He was in a good mood, a very good mood, and riding the curls only made it even better. The only thing that was missing was serious waves. The four and five foot swells the island got were nice and all, but he needed those with at least ten to twelve. Those were the types of waves that had tubes that were big enough for a person to ride down in. And there was little that compared to in this life than riding the tube within the surf.

And now, he was making another run, as he paddled with the rising crest, toward the shore. He lifted himself up onto his feet as he got into his position and then angled his board to ride the wave for its fullest inbound.

If anyone had known Kalli's schedule, they would wonder if she had ever gotten any sleep in the summer. She wasn't much of a 'party girl', preferring those simple pleasures instead, but that didn't mean she didn't keep late nights. It was probably around 2am when Kalli finally dozed off somewhere outside, and 4am when she woke up.

Kalli wasn't one to complain about being tired either. As soon as her eyes flew open she got up, stretched, and continued walking along the path she had started the night before. This quiet time with nature is what she loved most in her life, but she did crave that other interaction too. The path eventually led her to the beach just before the sun came up, and she took a seat in the sand.

It was fairly warm outside, but the breeze coming in off the ocean was a welcome friend. She didn't know how long she was sitting there until she noticed someone on a surfboard. At first glance she thought it might have been Micah, but it was doubtful since he had a habit of finding her before she found him. Kalli did recognize him as one of the new kids though.

Someone said on the journals that when it rained new kids, it poured, and Kalli had given up on trying to keep track soon after she had arrived. One thing she did notice, was that the new people coming in were closer to her age. She wouldn't lie - it was kind of nice. Kalli new she wasn't old, but when you're surrounded by people who are 10 years younger than you...well, yeah...

Kalli stood up as the wind played in the summer dress she was wearing to watch the surfer. She didn't understand how surfing worked. It looked like fun, but it seemed so ridiculous...one of the main reasons she had asked Starbuck about it earlier. Dragging her feet along the sand and through the shallow water, she decided to watch the unknown surfer until he came into shore.

Xander was off in his own little world. There was nothing for him at that moment in time than the water around him, the board beneath him, and the sun above him. A whole army might’ve been able to march past on the beach and at that moment, Xander would not have noticed them. No, he was fully engrossed in catching his waves and the motions thereof. He was addicted to surfing, after all, and it had been nearly two weeks off a board! He had been in some serious withdrawel.

He would still be out for a couple of minutes longer as he caught another wave in on the waves farther out. But then, he decided on a change of pace as he brought himself in closer to land. Still not truly paying attention to the beach, since he had no reason to. Xander didn’t really understand the island, after all. Despite having grown up amongst supernaturals, they were almost exclusively demons. Not the type to go ‘wandering’ at early hours in the morning. Least not normally, that is.

So, Xander was blissfully unaware that he had an audience as he caught one of the waves that came near the shore. His run began as beautifully and gracefully as his deeper ones had. He got up into his standing position and aimed the board to ride the wave, even if it was one slightly smaller than the ones deeper out. Which, in this case, was going to prove to be a good thing.

As the wave started to crest, and he turned his board into it, she caught his eye. Xander’s eyes caught the blonde hair first, and his whole body shifted slightly in surprise as he turned toward her. Which, was the unfortunate part. As his body turned, so did his board. And on a cresting wave, a badly angled board was something that usually resulted in bad things.

Which was completely true in this case as well. As he turned, the board dipped down, and when the wave came over, and the young demon disappeared into the cresting white mess of the wave. The board itself would appear a moment later, as the wave’s momentum washed it up onshore. A few seconds later, Xander would appear on the short, on his hands and knees, coughing and sputtering, just in time for another wave to hit him and knock him onto his side again.

Kalli couldn't see all that well while he was surfing, all except for a figure on a surfboard. But it was really hard to miss the epic wipeout. Standing ankle deep in the water, Kalli visibly cringed. She knew next to nothing about surfing, but that didn't look like it felt too good.

She waited around for a bit as she saw the surfboard hit the beach. Kalli bit the bottom of her lip and shifted her weight a little bit, wondering if she was going to have to dive in and rescue the poor boy. She was a good swimmer, there was no doubt about that, but c'mon...first thing monday morning? But just as soon as the thought crossed her mind, in washed the surfer looking like he just took a ride in a washing machine.

Kalli smiled, slightly amused and that smile only burst into a roaring laughter as the next wave sent him back into the sand. She could almost hear mother nature snickering. It was funny though, and Kalli had the tears of laughter in her eyes to prove it!

The hem of her dress danced along the water as she walked over to him and extended a hand. Well, a shaky hand anyway, she was still giggling profusely. "I thought the point of surfing was to stay on your board." she said between laughs. She might have come off as cold hearted, with all that laughing, but the truth was - Kalli was very very light hearted. He wasn't hurt as far as she knew, so why not laugh?

She was lucky that he was one of those people who were more than capable of laughing at themselves. It was not the first time he had wiped out, and while most of those were accidents or the water doing weird things, he knew, even an instant before it happened, this one was all his fault. Distracted by a pretty face. The demon just muttered at himself for a moment, as he lay on the wet sand on his back, even as the water flowed around him a third time.

When she offered her hand, he took a moment to focus on it. “You’re supposed to.” Xander said as he reached up to take the hand, and let her help him up to a kneeling position. He coughed a couple of times, then, as he tried to get the water out of his lungs that he had inhaled. Then he turned a sheepish grin toward her. “I figured I’d try something new. It had been some time since I did my last face plant into the ground.”

Another shake of his head was given before he pushed himself up to a standing position. He then looked up at her, though with his head having been bowed as he rose, it gave him a nice good look at her before his eyes rested upon her own. “You’re not one of those angels sent down to tease and torment a behaving demon, are you?” Not the brightest of things to say to a stranger, perhaps, but he was told most of the island was supernatural, or at the very least knew. “You sure look the part of one.”

Okay, so not the best of compliments or lines, but he had just had a wave try to drown him a few moments earlier, so he could be excused, right?

"Uh huh" Kalli grinned "As long as you were doing it on purpose, I guess". Her words were dipped in sarcasm, but she was happy that he seemed to be taking his fall lightly. Cause seriously, if she thought she was having a good time earlier this morning, she was close to peeing her pants with all that laughing.

Kalli listened to what he said, but could barely take it. This guy was too much. Her hip jutted out as her hand was placed there, and her foot would have been tapping against the ground had it not been encased in the wet sand. "A behaving demon?" she asked, an eyebrow raised, "that's a likely story" The demons she knew had a very different definition of 'behaving' than the one found in the dictionary. On the angel comment though, she had to use every ounce of will power she had not to divulge in the laughter that was trying to force it's way out. "An angel? Obviously, but you can call me Kalli. Only...everyone here thinks I'm a nature nymph so don't blow my cover okay." she winked.

There wasn't a doubt in her mind what kind of demon this guy was. Part of her was telling her to head to the hills but the other part, and evidently the one that had more control, just let her wade through the water shaking her head and laughing.

“Oh yeah, totally on purpose. Right.” He straightened up, and straightened up his back before he shook his head and glanced down at the beach. “You see where my board went?” It would be just his luck to have to go out into the water to get it. Wouldn’t be the first time, but it was never quite as much fun as it seemed. Once he did spot it, however, he glanced back toward her.

He gave her one of those innocent looking grins, and it was a look he almost pulled off and a sheepish shrug of his shoulders. “Okay, okay. So I’m not very good at behaving. But life would be boring if I was. No thank you, I’ll take causing trouble over being a good little boy any day.” He glanced back at her, and gave her a quick once over, before he grinned a bit more.

He offered his hand out toward her, “Xander. New on the island and at the school here. Though, I wish I had met you not quite looking like the fool I do, but hey, the fates sometimes think otherwise. Nature Nymph, huh? Don’t think we have any of those out in Los Angeles. Pleasure to meet you. What brings you out this early?” She wasn’t dressed for the water after all, and at this hour of the morning people tended to come to the beach to surf or swim, and neither fit her look. Unless it was all under the dress, of course.

Kalli motioned with her head towards his board, and she didn't miss the xeroxing of her body either. But, being one not to take herself seriously she just smirked, "Keep dreaming there buddy" Nothing like calling someone out about something, "Depends on the kinda trouble you get in though" she shrugged, thinking a moment. She guessed most people could say that Kalli got into trouble quite a bit, but the thing about the trouble she did get in, was that it never really brought her trouble. Well, if it did, she had forgotten about it already. She was quite the happy camper.

"Yeah, I think I've seen you around, but after while it gets too hard to keep track of who's new and who isn't." she said, taking his hand, "Yep definitely a nymph of the nature persuasion. I've never been to Los Angeles, but from what I've heard it doesn't sound like a city most would gravitate to...um...if nymphs gravitated towards cities that is" she laughed. Kalli was probably the exception. She lived for forests and mountains and was content to let the scenery consume her entirely, but still - she was raised in a city more or less.

When asked about what she was doing, somewhat of a lightbulb went off in her head. She didn't really know. "Um. Just wandering around I guess." It seemed more like a question than an answer. Kalli never really made plans and as far as keeping plans was concerned...well, you could imagine. Kalli had to check her surroundings out again, realizing she was lost in her own head again. The sun was just coming up, so it was early...water..swimming? It occurred to her at that moment that she was already knee deep in the water and she had been wearing her bathing suit. Letting out a laugh she said, "I'm swimming!" Kalli liked to think this constant need to figure out where her feet had taken her was more endearing than annoying.

To prove her point, she scurried back to the shore, slipped out of her dress and ran back into the water. Her bikini wasn't too revealing, the army green was a dark colour and the only interesting things it showed was the scar above her belly button and the sternum piercing she had. No big deal, and Kalli rarely felt self-conscious anyway.

"What are you doing out this early?" she asked, suddenly curious. "I mean, besides trying to surf. I didn't think demons were the early bird type."

“Hey, a guy has to have goals, right?” Xander said as he raised his hands up in mock defense before he just grinned. His own wetsuit covered him up quite nicely, but those things really didn’t leave much to the imagination. “And I have to admit that the trouble I get into usually involves either parents, boyfriends, or irate cops. Sometimes all three at once.”

“I can imagine. Be at a school long enough and just seeing a face you hadn’t seen before you’d assume their new. And it isn’t exactly a small school.” He shook his head a little bit at that as he glanced back in the direction of the school, before he glanced back at her. “Been here long? And no, I wouldn’t expect them to like it much. Not much in the way of nature.. except up in the mountains which is still rather far away.” Good couple hour drive if one was lucky, half the day with traffic.

He watched the thought process going off in her face and he looked on rather bewildered for a couple of moments. He was so used to people knowing what they were doing, and while on occasion he had met some people who didn’t, it was rarely this early in the morning. And most of them were potheads, which she didn’t seem to be at all. “Swimming is good.” He said with a laugh when she decided.

Then, the dress came off, and the bikini was revealed, and Xander couldn’t help but laugh and shake his head. “You know, Kalli, it isn’t nice to shoot a guy down for looking, then come out with a body like that in a bikini like that just to tease him.” Not that he was going to mind, there was a reason he had crashed on his board after all.

“And I was surfing. I’m quite good, thank you very much. I hadn’t expected such an attractive audience to come out of nowhere, and it kinda.. threw me for a loop, then into the ground, and then side over side over side until I came resting on the beach. Only to have the ocean laugh at me and slap me down again until I was sputtering and on my back.”

"Sounds kinky" Kalli laughed. Parents, boyfriends, AND irate cops? That sounded like more of a party than Kalli could handle. Okay, she tried everything at least twice (once for the experience and twice just to make sure). Kalli didn't want to miss out on anything in life so before she declared something unlikeable she really made sure she didn't like it. But...she never would have thought of that particular combination all on her own.

"Since December, maybe?" Kalli couldn't quite remember, she tended to have a different concept of time than most, "I remember when I first got here, everyone was recovering from some sort of curse. Powers had been switched and some lost their memory or something. It was kinda creepy." There was nothing like asking someone what their name was and having them reply 'I don't know' and being honest all at the same time.

Kalli lowered her head and blushed slightly at his bewilderment. She didn't mean to alienate people but...sometimes it just happened! Recovering quickly, her embarrassment was replaced with a goofy grin. "Please, it's not just to tease you." she laughed, "That's what you get for not keeping your eyes where they should be!"

"Not that I don't already have a good idea, but what kind of demon are you?" Kalli asked as she waded deeper into the water. Oooh the water! Kalli hadn't been swimming in what seemed like forever. If he didn't hurry up and answer, she'd be off in her own world again!

“Oh, you have no idea. There’s nothing like having an irate father call the cops on you. Just for kissing his daughter.” Xander grinned and shook his head. Granted, most of the time he deserved such things, but hey, he was allowed to complain about them at least, right? As for the entire combination, it usually wasn’t the most enjoyable of times, unless you reveled in trouble, like he did. Then, you almost seemed to go out looking for that kind of trouble, just for that lovely little rush it would create.

“A curse? That made everyone forget and switch powers… oooooookay, remind me to kick my mom in the head the next time I see her. She told me this place would be an adventure, but that’s not exactly the adventure I signed up for.” Xander grunted a bit as he shook his head. “I’m freakin’ Bon Jovi, not Indiana Jones breaking curses. Glad that’s over though, but seriously.. not something I want to experience first hand.”

“Oh, its to tease me, even if it isn’t on purpose. Well, I don’t think it’d be on purpose, unless you’ve decided to start stalking me. Which would be cool, but freaky all the same since I just met you. I like to know my stalkers before hand, more fun that way.” He then waved a hand along her form as he grinned a bit. “And, in that suit? Trust me, my eyes are right where they belong. Any guy who wouldn’t stare at you dressed like that is either hiding something, or gay. And… I’m not gay, thank you.”

When she started to move out deeper into the water, Xander paused for a moment as he glanced over toward his board. Last thing he needed was for it to go off sailing into the currents. It’d be a bitch to find again if that happened. But, it seemed just fine, and so, the demon decided to follow the lovely nymph out into the water as well. “Incubus.” He said with a faint grin. There really was something to be said about not having to hide what you were from the world after all.

"Somebody called the cops because you kissed their daughter?!" Kalli said, somewhat shocked. It was her turn to be bewildered. She did grow up in a strict adoption center, but after that..well she kissed practically everyone she met! Kalli was an affectionate person, and loved the connections you could create with people. How that could offend anyone enough to get the police involved was beyond her. "Kissing is a beautiful thing!" she said, stating her argument, "wait...how old was the girl?" her eyes narrowed a little, but it was just to tease - that playful smile stayed put on her face.

"Yeah" she said, treading water. "But you'll like it here. Plenty of things to do. And it really never gets boring for long anyway." It was true, Kalli always had something going on.

Kalli blushed again. She was used to innuendo, hints, and suggestive behaviour, but this guy was almost blunt! "What fun is it knowing your stalkers anyway? Then it just gets boring." she managed to say, but could only grin in spite of it...he really was an incubus, jeez.

“She was high class, wealthy elite, and her father saw nothing but a surf bum and rocker wannabe. Oh, and she was half naked at the time.” Xander said with a chuckle and a shrug of his shoulders. The father hadn’t really taken into account that the demon’s family was quite wealthy as well, it was just too much for him to handle. At the ‘age’ question, though, the Incubus laughed out loud and shook his head. “Well, she was a freshman in high school at the time.. but I was only a senior, so it was allowed.”

He pushed himself out into the water as well, as he let himself float near her, though never coming very close as his gaze turned out toward the waves as he watched them. He was getting ideas just from watching the waves. After all, it had been a long time since he just body surfed, without that board of his. It was looking rather inviting at that moment. “School seems great so far. Mother went here, and she said it was going to be an adventure. Its proving to be that so far.”

The blush got a wicked grin from the Incubus as he glanced back toward her again and arched an eyebrow at her. “Yeah, its not quite as much… fun.. knowing who is stalking you. Some things should always be a surprise. But then I suspect you’re more the type to get stalkers, than to be one yourself. I bet you have half the school following you around most of the time.”
