Week Fourteen: Sunday
Who: Kin and Shoko
When: Late afternoon
Where: Wandering about in the hallways

For over and hour he has been sitting near one of the huge windows in the hallway. Sketch book and pencil in hand, waiting for something from nature to take him by surprise, but so far... Nothing happened. Maybe these couple few days weren't his. Funny though, that he was walking around in the clothing he used for painting, the dry bits here and there scratching his stomach as he walked. And yes, he couldn't stay at that window any longer. If nothing was coming to him, what was the point?

The end of the pencil was tapped against his jeans that were slowly fading from over washing; paint, it does the clothing good! Not really. But it really didn't bother him. There were some people who didn't like walking around in their painter clothing. He on the other hand, loved it.

When coming toward the cafeteria, it couldn't be helped to check if anything was there to nibble on. He really didn't need it, but if there were the sweets he loved so much, then yeah, he had to pick something up. That would be the only thing he'd allow himself to indulge with.

And guess what? They had those little pastries with the cream in the middle and chocolate icing on the top. He never knew what they were, but they tasted so, so good. Of course, being off in his own little world, while eating his pastry in the hallway, he wasn't looking where he was going. Walking around with your eyes closed and making little 'mmm' sounds wasn't the smart thing to do. Kin finally came to realize that when his sketchbook, as well as himself, fell to the floor. A shot a pain ran up his rear and his spine, causing a little gasp to escape.

"Dômo sumimasen!" He said quickly in japanese, over and over again. With his head as low as it could possibly go in the position he was in. The pastry was forgotten, and all he wanted was forgiveness, from whoever he bumped into.

Shoko would know the name of the pastry. Boston Creme! Then she would go on and on about her semester at Harvard. That would follow by some sort of useless information. This is usually where she would lose a lot of people. Some people found it charming and cute. Some found it bothersome.

On this particular afternoon, Shoko's mind sort of drifted to other things. She nearly froze Xander as she got him dressed up for Alice. That upset her quite a bit. After all, she came to Halcyon to learn how to control her abilities. And so far she was doing a horrible job. As she walked back to her room, her mind was clearly elsewhere.

Suddenly, she ran right into someone. Since her mind was in the clouds, her response was in Japanese accompanied by a bow, "Sumimasen!" Then, she realized that he also responded in Japanese. Studying who she bumped into for a moment, she got to her knees to help him with his sketchbook, "It seems you are Japanese..." she replied in her native language with a small smile. "I'm Shoko Okazaki," she continued in Japanese, "It's good to meet you!" She got to her feet and held her hand out to help him up. "I'm sorry, I can be such a klutz."

Kin was surprised when hearing almost the same thing come out from someone else's lips. Right away he thought it was Sasha, but her voice was different compared to this one. Why, out of nowhere, was he finally meeting people who can speak his language? This was like this year or something.

But for now, it would be best to set aside the little boy in him that was jumping for glee, and stand so he could brush himself off and apologize, once again. "I am.." he replied back in the same language. One of his boyish smiles appearing upon those oddly shaped lips. It was hard to contain his excitement. She should be thankful he wasn't pouncing her and hugging the crap out of her. Now that would be embarrassing.

Kin took his sketchbook, forgetting about to pastry, and almost killing it between his palm. Finally a little drop of cream reminded him, making him glance at the thing before focusing on the girl in front of him. "Shoko? Its a pleasure to meet you. I'm Kin Takashima." He quickly gave a bow in his half seated form, before getting back to his feet with her help. Which of course was given yet another bow. "It really isn't your fault. I was the one who wasn't looking. I should be the one called a klutz." His hand, the one holding the sketch book, touched at his chest lightly. He really should be called klutz, it works so well with him.

Shoko probably spoke better Japanese than Sasha since it was her first language and she lived there for her first 19 or so years of her life. She did speak in a slight dialect specific to Hokkaido, particularly using 'sa' instead of 'ne' and a few use of shortening of words. It was so nice to meet someone else who spoke it as well. She gave him a warm smile, "Someone else who I can speak Japanese to, right (sa)!" she continued on her native language. "Nice to meet you, Kin-kun."

She shook her head in defiance, "No, no, I was equally not watching where I was going. I should take some of the blame." This probably could go on for hours because of the tendency in Japan to be very apologetic. Shoko was not a graceful individual. She tripped over her own feet all the time!

She studied him for a moment, which was odd because it was often considered rude to stare. "You like Jrock?" She asked with a grin, "I really can tell!" She laughed a little while placing her hand in front of her mouth.

Anyone who would be passing by might find it a little strange how the both of them kept bowing to each other. Kin was equally apologetic, and also nervous at the same time. Thankfully he wasn't showing it right now. Unless he didn't notice it like a lot of times. He never used to be like this, but some things change when you do, it seems.

"Jrock?" He asked, arching a brow and even cocking his head to the side like a dog when confused about something. Well, he was confused. Music was nice to listen to here and there, but he usually went for the oldies type music. Guess being this old did that to a person. "Um, well.. Not really." A light snort escaped as he smiled, looking down and pulling at his shirt out of habit. "I listen to The Doors, Rolling Stones, and stuff like that... Some old japanese artists, but nothing of what you are talking about." Was he showing his age? Probably. Which was making him want to blush, the creeping feeling of heat running his neck. If only rubbing at the skin there would make it stop.

Kin blinked several times when he finally looked up to glance at Shoko. That confusion easily spreading along his features once again. "Can tell what?" he asked. Was she agreeing with him being a klutz? He didn't know if he should laugh at that or feel ashamed and run off to his room.

Somehow thinking about his room reminded him once again about the treat he was trying to eat. Amber eyes glanced down, blinking at the thing, and sighing how deformed it looked. Well, there went his little snack for finally drawing something and getting that lost inspiration back. "Hold that thought." Kin held a hand up, stopping her from speaking quickly. A little smile was given as he backed up and went to find a trash can. If she followed, that was fine, he was going to throw the food away; and maybe get something new.

It hadn't occurred to Shoko that Kin was rather pale, almost as pale as herself! Her skin did look like it could blend in aptly with the snow. It always shocked a lot of people because of her dark skin and her dark eyes. This is why she grew up with many nicknames like Obake and Yuki-onna which were ghost or snow woman respectively.

"Oh! I just thought by the way you dress," Shoko looked embarrassed as she explained herself fully settling back in the language she grew up with, "I listen to Mariah Carey, Avril Lavigne, and Hikaru Utada." She liked female singers with big voices. And she did sing to them when she thought no one was around... probably not as good as a certain incubus would hope...

Shoko tilted her head to the side as he asked his question. She had forgotten her train of thought on it, "Eh?" She could be bit of an airhead sometimes. "Would you like me to get you a new snack?" She still felt guilty for running into him.

If Kin paid attention to her face and not her lips, he'd realize the same thing about her skin tone, and right away ask if she was a vampire as well. Though, not as excitedly as he was knowing she spoke fluent Japanese like he did. Some, not all, of those bloodsucking kind made his skin crawl. Yeah, he was basically dissing his own "family", but he really didn't want to become what he was today. Call it irony, since the same thing was happening with his family - a different kind of thing. He just didn't want anything to do with it.

"I dress?" He blinked, looking down at his clothing. Was wearing his painting clothing show what kind of music he listened to? If so, he didn't know that. Should he start wearing suits again?

Just the thought of a suit made him make a face of disgust. It visibly showed too. Hopefully Shoko didn't think he was making that face by what she said.

Hearing Hikaru Utada made him look to her and smile softly. Ah, someone he heard of! The other two were just names floating around his head. He probably heard them somewhere on the radio or computer. Didn't pay much mind to them, maybe because the music didn't appeal to him. Oh well. Nothing really did these days.

The little snack he wanted to devour was thrown into the trash. A little pray given to it, before turning his attention back to her. Amber eyes growing wide as if he saw a ghost. "Oh no. No. You don't need to do that. Unless you want to come with me to get another one? I'll get you whatever you want." Kin gave her that wide smile of his. Being a gentleman was his specialty, so to speak. So, offering to give the lady something, was something normal to him. The only problem is, would Shoko allow him or not.

Shoko could severely hurt members of her own "family" the demons. She was the very element that all of them were weak against. Then again, it worked the same way in reverse. The ones who were fire demons would hurt her no doubt. Funny how that happened. She also could hurt her mortal relatives. Her father mentioned how when she was a baby and threw tantrums, he would have to restrain her by putting on gloves or covering her in a blanket.

She decided to drop about how he dressed and simply shook her head. Nevermind! He seemed to be even more spacey than she was. That was saying something! Then again, Shoko dressed like a boy so she had no right judging someone's sense of fashion! "Kin-kun, it is alright if I address you informally?" She realized she did without initially realizing it. Then again, he called her Shoko. She was so sheltered growing up that Shoko sometimes forgot the formalities of her own culture. This resulted in pissing off a lot of people. "But what is your race?"

As he offered to get her something else, she scratched the back of her head sheepishly, "Ano... you don't have to pay for anything at the cafeteria. That is where you got it right? I was going to get one for you and bring it back..." Isn't that typical of her culture, make it more difficult than it has to be to apologize.

Kin had to stop himself and close his eyes. What she said had him thinking, and thinking hard. He was doing it to begin with. From the way beginning too. That made him want to curse at himself in his own tongue, but he decided to take a deep breath and turn to her with a soft smile. "Of course you can. I was doing it from the start." Even though he really shouldn't have. Being around people of a different culture for two years now somewhat changed him. Made him forget some of the ways of his land. Which was bad! He was so old-fashioned his skin would glow - if that could really happen. But now realizing he wasn't being so formal to begin with, it made some of that shine disappear.

His race? Did she mean what he was? If he told her, she wouldn't run, right? He was so used to that in the past. All you had to do was smile, fangs would be exposed. Or say vampire and they'd look at you funny before you actually showed proof. At least they thought you were crazy first.

"I'm a vampire.." He finally replied, shifting his eyes toward the ground before moving them around the hall. Looking at her right away was something he couldn't do. Hell, there would be a storm if he literally looked someone in the eyes for the first time. Call it shy, but there were some creatures stronger than him that could easily look toward his soul through his eyes. Unless that was still rumor. He always was big on rumors. Always believed them too.

A nod was given to what she said. Though he was thinking of the mall. There was a pastry stand there that he loved to go to every chance he could get. Their stuff was so good, if there was drugs put in them, he wouldn't really care! But for now, he got it at the cafeteria. He was just not going to say he wanted to go to the mall later with someone, finally. "If you want to, you can." Kin gave a slight shrug and a smile. Might as well stop the apologizing little war before it got worse between the both of them. Though it might be funny in the future.

Shoko had a hard time breaking habits she's been doing since she was a child. True, she wasn't always the most polite. Heck, she used "Boku" for I instead of what was more acceptable "watashi". But seeing someone from back home just caused her to flash back to everything she needed to do when addressing people. She smiled politely, "Okay, Kin."

She tilted her head to the side and nodded, "Interesting. Are you on good terms with your sire, if you don't mind me asking?" She had asked a lot of questions in regards to vampires because she was simply curious. Some of the vampires got annoyed with her, however, "I'm an ice demon, or half, really. Well, I could be a quarter but from what Tousan said, it sounds like my mother was a full demon." She did babble a little bit. It was what she did when she first met people.

Shoko looked sheepishly and shrugged, "Well, why don't we both go to the cafertia. I'm a bit hungry too, and it is so nice to talk to someone who knows Japanese. Well, Alice knows Japanese too but she wasn't born there. She is affectively American. Have you been to America? I lived there for about six months. It was wonderful!"

Kin was still giddy inside! Finding another from his lands was amazing. He didn't even care if she was some kind of sucking soul monster. Okay.. Now that was just rude to think of. Might have to give his forehead several hits later tonight. If he remembers, that is. Excitement like this was hard to form into words, and he usually forgot about it. What she said brought yet another bright smile to his face, even baring those fangs that were always hard to hide. Well, at least she didn't run when he told her what she was.

"What?" He stopped suddenly, almost tripping over himself. Stumbling like an idiot and having to use the wall to hold himself up right once again. "I.. Um.. No. No, I'm not." Thankfully she changed the subject to herself. Speaking about his past was something he really, really didn't want to converse about. "That's.. that's really neat. I never met a demon before. Well, ice demon." Kin nodded slowly as he spoke, trying to collect himself once again. Why was it taking harder than before? That's a question he'll have to answer one of these years.

"Sorry.." That was random, but it had to be said. He was saying it to a lot of things. Being weird with what she said, when he really wasn't trying to be. He'd love to explain himself and why he acted the way he did, but would she understand and want to hear a story like his?

He made his life feel like a fucked up fairy tale.

Kin nodded then, a little too fast than normal. "Alice? ... Oh! Alice." Hopefully he was thinking of the same girl Shoko was talking about. He met her in the art club and through journaling, but not really as friends spoke. They must be friends, since she knew something about this girl. "Um.. No. I've never been there. I learned english through here." His hand moved up, swaying here and there to signal the school.
