Close enough

Title: Close enough
Characters/Pairings: Duo Maxwell
Team: Gundams
Word Count: 100
Author's Notes: Safehouses are my favorite cliché crutch.

I hauled ass away from the explosions like a bat out of hell, an apt metaphor for Deathscythe on the run. The place was going up in blazing fireworks and suits swarmed like angry bees; I didn't plan to hang around and get stung.

Solo missions are great; no need to worry about anyone else, no rescues or clean-up, just cut and run. 'Scythe's stealth lets me drop off the radar like magic.

Made it back, ghosted upstairs, quickly showered, and crawled between clean sheets, to snuggle against a familiar, warm body. At Heero's side; that's close enough to home.

Home

Title: Home
Characters/Pairings: Duo Maxwell
Team: Gundams
Word Count: 100
Author's Notes: Quickly scribbled, roughly edited, hoping to post before the next challenge goes up. Maybe I'll think of a title by then...

It was a long walk to the valley where I'd hidden Deathscythe; the waning moon peeked down before I dragged my ass into the cockpit to send my mission report.

I stretched, relaxing into the pilot's seat. Grabbing a ration bar, I browsed my little library, held securely on handcrafted shelves. Choosing a familar book, worn with age, I pulled out pillows. Shuteye first; safehouse later, to bug Heero. I swear I'll dig down to the human inside one day.

For now, I'm comfortable, warm, safe, and fed, with a good book in my hands. There's no place like home.

Drugland

Title: Drugland
Challenge: Home
Team: Gundams
Rating: G
Word Count: 100

Heero noticed as they were gearing up for a Preventer mission to L2, that Duo was unusually jittery.
“You OK, Maxwell?” he enquired.
“Fine. Why?”

**********************

They crouched in an alleyway, eyes trained on the rubble-filled lot opposite, waiting for the drug dealers to arrive at their weekly ‘wholesale market’.
A small noise jerked Heero’s eyes to his partner's face. He frowned. Was that a... tear?
“Duo. What’s wrong?”
Duo jerked, “Nothin’,” he flashed a nervous smile, scrubbed his wet cheek.

**********************

It was only as Heero completed the arrest paperwork that he realised the dealers’ marketplace was named Maxwell Church Square.

Prompt #59

The cliches managed to stick to OZ and the Gundams this week like a dryer sheet on a sweater!  They both managed 10 points each and have to now share that trophy.

This week's prompt is #59 - Home

John Ed Pearce once said “Home is a place that when you are young, you can’t wait to leave and when you are old, wish you could go back to.”

The idea of home can be taken in so many different directions from a place where you experience belonging, to the place where you grew up, to the feeling of a special someone, to the place you live now.

Much has been said about “home” including (but not limited to):

-          Home is where the heart is

-          You can never go home again

-          There’s no place like home

No matter your idea or definition of the word, take the characters home in just 100 words.
