In the Common Room (open)
Lily sprawled out over a chair in the common room, the area around her covered in potions texts. She had one in her hand and a quill in her other hand, jotting down notes. Slughorn assigned the most inane essays sometimes. She knew she could probably come up with an excuse and get out of it, but she always hated to abuse the fact that Slughorn liked her so much.

Her thoughts were interrupted by someone walking into the common room. She looked up to see who it was.

	"Darling!" He had just wandered into the common room after unpacking from his long holiday break, and spotted the redhead. James smirked, walking over to the chair next to his long-time crush and taking a seat. "I missed you, you know. Girls were after me the whole break, but I told them that my heart belongs to you. She didn't even look at him, just immediately went for her wand and pointed it at him. "Do. Not. Call me. Darling."

"If they want you, you should go for it, since you and me? Not happening. Ever."

How many times did she have to tell him? She had never met someone so annoying, so persistant, so arrogant in her entire life. And yet, he did so well in classes. Why waste a brain on someone like James Potter?

	He shook his head, ignoring the last bit. "If you prefer a different nickname, love, then you can just say so. No need to point wands." He smiled. 	Ouch. That one struck him a bit, but he tried not to let it show. Instead, he responded with a cocky comment that made little sense, but was sure to get a rise from her. Lily was trying to prepare a witty retort when she realized she had no idea what he even had meant. How do real names imply intimacy? Well, trying to make logic out of James Potter was a fool's errand. She'd make more progress banging her head against a wall.

"I don't even have any idea where you got that out of what I said. Sometimes I think you are having a conversation with yourself. Of course, you do consider yourself the only one worthy of being seduced by one James Potter."

She realized her poorly thought out retort would just lead to some sort of strange, metaphysical discussion that involved lots of James Potters - truly something she didn't want. It was hard to back out of it now, though.

"Oh, I know you don't really want me. You just want," she paused for a minute. What did he want? To piss off her? To piss off Severus? To win over the only girl outside of Slytherin who didn't fall at his feet? "Some sort of trophy. Like a serial killer or something."

	"A serial killer? A trophy?" Now the surprise was clear on his face. James cleared his throat. "Not to say that you aren't worthy of being a trophy, but that is not the reason I want you." He wasn't sure exactly why he wanted her, but it wasn't because of that. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

Lily rolled her eyes. "You know, serial killers. They keep trophies.... of their victims," she emphasized that last part. She thought of asking him why he wanted her, as she wondered often. Mostly in the context of what god she had pissed off to deserve this sort of pain, but sometimes she wondered what motivated him. He had to have known that Severus Snape's best friend wouldn't be that appreciative of his advances, unless of course she happened to hit her head and forget the past five years. However, she knew if she asked it'd lead to some dramatic monologue on the color of her hair or eyes or something. It's like the boy didn't have a substantive bone in his body.

	James thought about saying something, like "If anyone's the victim here, it's me. I'm a victim of Cupid, you see." However, he decided that she was already annoyed at him (although he wasn't sure why--other girls loved this stuff) and would probably hex him if he continued. "You aren't a trophy to me." 	For once, it seemed she had rendered the boy nearly speechless. It didn't give her pause, however. Whatever else happened between them, for some reason James always got a rise out of her. He smiled at her use of his name.

Ruffling his hair, he began to speak slowly. "Well, you're the smartest person ever...even smarter than I am." James was tapping his foot as he thought. "You rank second in looks..."

He scrunched his eyebrows together. "Sorry. But...I don't know, I just think everything about you is great. Even when you're screaming at me." He paused. "Which is pretty much all the time."

Lily raised her eyebrow at his 'looks' joke, but I guess it was something to say she was smarter than him. It certainly took an act of god for James Potter to think anything better than him.

"Well, it'll remain all the time if you continue to act... like you. You go around like you own the place, you hurt my friends, and you are just... arg! You are infuriating, especially with this silly little crush of yours."

	His mouth twitched as he resisted the urge to tease her about Snape's silly little crush or the meaning of the word "argh". As her last words sunk in, James frowned. 	Lily pointed her wand again. "It's because you don't take anything seriously! How am I supposed to believe you are serious about me when you don't respect people!" He looked up at her with puppy dog (staggy?) eyes. "How can I be serious?" He asked, smirking. "Or Remus, for that matter, or Peter..."

Oh. That had been her point. Whoops...why did he always have to mess up? He just wanted her to like him, like the other girls did...

Feeling angry with himself, he stood up. "I take how I feel for you seriously--I stopped bullying you, didn't I? What do I have to admit to make you understand that I'm not playing around when it comes to you?"

"See, that's not funny. I'm trying to make you... not make a joke at every time and you snap back with an unfunny one."

"And please, you stopped bullying me because I started winning. If you really cared, you'd stop bullying my friends." Not that Severus hadn't bested James on more than one occasion, but it always seemed to end up with one of them in the hospital wing. She was a mite tired of it. Lily had a bit more... finesse.

That was partially true, she had started winning...was that why he had fallen for her?

He shook his head. "What about the fact that I haven't dated anyone since the end of second year?" He asked.

"You know, when I first started asking you out? A group of girls practically rushed me in Bermuda, and I declined them because I like you. One of them was incredibly beautiful, but I resisted her because I like you."

James sighed. "In fairness, you really never gave me a chance. We could be soulmates or something, and have twenty children in the future, but you'll never give me a shot, so we might as well just say goodbye to little Jimmy and Lillian!"

"My name isn't Lillian, and I wouldn't give my child a false namesake," she muttered.

She had always figured that him not dating people was part of the grand plan of winning her over. It didn't make the endeavor any more legitimate in her eyes. Really, she hadn't really dated anyone either, didn't make her in love with him.

"We are not soulmates, and I don't care what you want to do with your time. Snog as many gorgeous Bermudans as you wish."

Girls were tough. What did she expect him to do? Be Snivellus? Merlin, was Snivellus her type? If she'd only give him a chance, she'd see how amazing he was...

"I'm not going to quit until you finally go on a date with me." James muttered. "How about this...two weeks. Date me for two weeks. From the first of February until Valentine's Day. If at the end, you honestly don't think any better of me, then I will stop harassing you." He knew she wouldn't accept it, but it was worth a shot.

Lily gave James a look. "Really. I think you know what the answer to this is going to be. I already know who you are. We've been going to the same school for 5 years!" She didn't know if maybe she should make a counter offer, try and do something about the way James treated people, but she didn't even trust him with this. No way he'd ever stop bothering her, it seemed pathological.

	Kingsley wandered into the common room trying to find someone that would help him with his with his potions homework. He stopped short when he saw Potter and Lilly Evans, wands drawn (at least one was), and he hung back waiting to see if he would need to cast a shield charm, or more likely a counter curse.
