Common Room [open, but we'd love to see Harry (:]

Hermione ran down from the girls' dorms into the common room, clutching her Legens. Luna said Harry was probably in here, and that Hermione should discuss a new Dumbledore's Army with him. She rather liked the idea--a place where everyone could discuss the future in privacy would be so useful--but she really had to ask Harry first.

She still felt guilty over the whole ordeal with Remus (or rather, not telling Harry about the whole ordeal with Remus).

She didn't immediately spot Harry, so she let out a long sigh and sat on a couch near the fireplace. Someone had left a book about potions on the other seat, so she picked it up and began reading, while hoping that Harry (or at least someone interesting) would come in soon.

Kingsley meandered down to the common room looking for the book he had used to write a particularly nasty Potions essay. He was really horrible at Potions but Slughorn, while not liking him didn't hate him so he manged it okay. He had just barely manged the E he had needed on his OWLS and he wasn't sure he would get the NEWT required, but it was useful in so many fields that he couldn't justify dropping it.

There was a strange girl sitting on the couch reading his book. Plauge Survivor he thought.

He stopped in front of her and said quietly as to not startle her, "Hello Miss, you must be one of the new students. I'm Kingsley, Kingsley Shacklebolt." He held out a hand to her.

She snapped to attention, turning to face him. As usual, she had gotten too into the book, and failed to notice what was going on around her.

She dropped the book, surprised to see yet another familiar face.

"Ah!" She said, picking it up and placing it on the couch next to her. "Sorry about that, you look just like someone I know! It surprised me a bit. I'm Hermione Puckle." She shook his hand with a smile.

He smiled back at her. "Welcome to Gryffindor." He motioned to the book, "Are you any good at potions? I've got to do an essay on why my wound cleaning potion didn't turn out."

If she was the same age as most of the other new students seemed to be, she would be a fifth year, but she seemed particularly interested in the book so maybe it was a strength of her's.

Hermione smiled and nodded. "Thank you. Potions isn't my best course, but I can help you with your report." She offered.

"At the school in the village, I did quite well in it, despite a rude teacher." She wrinkled her nose at the thought of Snape. "So it's about a wound cleaning potion? Which one?"

"Slughorn's not too bad...definitely has his favorites though. Let's see," he summoned a scroll and and looked through his notes. "It's just basic. It's supposed to turn purple, mine turned green," he made a face.

"It'd be right useful though for Quidditch practice. Taking care of my people and all that." He handed her his scroll. "It's mostly done. I think I added the porcupine quills too early, but it is really a shot in the dark."

She nodded, reading the scroll with ease. "Well, you did add the quills too early, but that shouldn't really ruin the potion. The problem is, you didn't let it sit long enough after putting the nectar in. You have to give it a full five minutes, and then stir for two, before putting anything else in." She smiled, handing him the scroll. "It should work well if you just do that. Everything else seems fine."

Harry made his way down the familiar staircase from the Boy's Dormitory and into the common room. He was sort of hoping to run into someone to chat about something other than what they were supposed to be doing here or the fact that they weren't in Kansas anymore, if one could excuse the allusion. He found Hermione and a somewhat familiar boy in the common room when he stepped off of the last step.

"Hello," he greeted them both.

"Harry!" Hermione said, eyes lighting up. "I was looking for you; I have something to discuss with you...oh!" She turned to Kingsley. "This is Kingsley!" She said with a large smile. "I'm helping him with his potions homework...this is my friend Harry." She "introduced" the boys.

Kingsley smiled and stuck out his hand, then something clicked in his mind. "Hey one of the other students mentioned that you were a really good Seeker."

He thought a moment, "None of my positions are open, but you are more than welcome to come scrimmage with us. In fact, open that up to any other students from your school."

Fresh blood and a challenge would be good.

He hoped his offer was accepted.

Harry shook the other boy's hand and smiled, recalling the kind Auror from his own time. "Some Quidditch would be really great actually," he said, realizing that in order to keep his cool, he would need something other than just the observations that he and Draco had agreed to.

"What do you need to talk to me about, Hermione?" he asked her.

"Um...remember the club from our old school?" Her eyes were darting back and forth between Kingsley and Harry.

"Luna thought we might start up a version of it again." She said awkwardly. "I thought I'd ask you, since you were the president."

It annoyed him to realize that never once had he thought of what it could possibly mean to start Dumbledore's Army back up. The Order didn't even exist in this time, there was some sort of defense needed as Voldemort's powers were on the rise. He grinned at her, "I think that's an excellent idea."

Kingsley raised an eyebrow at the both of them. He was pretty sure that there was something more to what they wanted to discuss, but he didn't want to pry.

Finally he thought that they would include him if they wanted to. "I'll leave you alone to discuss it than shall I? You know where to find me if I can be of any help."

He waved his wand at the pair to cast a privacy charm for them and then headed to the table to work.

Hermione watched Kingsley go, feeling guilty. "S-sorry..." She muttered, and then turned back to Harry. "I think so too. Where would we meet, though?" She tried to meet his eyes. "And who do we include?"

"The room of requirement?" He figured that it had worked out well for them in the past, er -- rather, the future and there was no reason it wouldn't work now. "As for who, I think we should probably offer it to the other future students and perhaps some of the people that were in the original Order? Call it a defense club?"

[info]hermione_or

She nodded. "The room is the best choice, but I think she meant that we should make a club where future students could plot without worrying about current students overhearing. In some ways, I prefer your idea. It's ultimately your choice."

Hermione bit her lip. "Do you think we should include the future Slytherins? What about Snape?"

[info]harry_or

"I just don't see how twelve or so of us could ultimately do much of anything. This is when Voldemort was his most powerful, we cannot afford to lose again. Plotting shouldn't be a problem as far as the current students are concerned if we do it under the pretense of a club. We still don't know the events of this time because we could have already changed it beyond anything history books could tell us." He shrugged, trying to decide if Luna had a point as far as keeping the twelve of them together. "Dumbledore hesitated too long with the Order, we need to make sure that they can defend themselves."

Harry sighed heavily at her next question, "The future Slytherins have no choice, Malfoy," he found no need to say the boy's first name in front of Hermione, it was already weird enough. "Malfoy has already talked to me about some plots, we'd have to include him. As for Snape, I don't think there's any reason to include him in any of this until we can be sure exactly where he stands in this time. He might already have Death Eater ties for all we know."

"I see your point. Do we make it invitation only, then?" She asked softly, looking down at her lap. "I think things have already changed, Harry. I don't know to what extent--but obviously we haven't done enough."

She balled her hands into fists, feeling guilty again. "Harry, we're best friends, right? You wouldn't h-hate me for doing the right thing, would you?" She knew what his answer would be, but she still had to ask. "I mean, something I felt I had to do."

[info]harry_or

"I think that invitation only would probably work out the best, we just need to come up with a convincing cover story for the current students. We can't let them think that this isn't important or that it's just some sort of ridiculous attempt at making friends or something." He nodded, his thoughts already trying to formulate something believable.

Harry frowned loosely at Hermione's questioning. "What are you talking about? What's happened, Hermione?"

"Well, nothing in particular." She lied, biting her lip. "I just worry sometimes that I've said something that gives too much away. I haven't really been thinking things through lately." She added.

Hermione really wanted to tell him the whole truth--she trusted him much more than Draco--but she knew he wouldn't take it well. At least, she didn't think so...

"I mean, what if I told someone by accident? I haven't done that, mind you, but if I did...?"

It wasn't like Hermione not to have everything thought through to every possible outcome. She was the girl who had always been the most clever, thinking two steps ahead of him on everything. "If you did? I guess we'd have to deal with that if it came to it." He smiled at her softly, "Hermione, stop worrying so much."

She avoided his gaze. Harry was always so kind to her, and yet all she did was lie to him and work behind his back. He trusted her, but she betrayed him. Was she really any better than Pettigrew?

"Draco and I have been working together." Hermione said quickly and quietly, not sure if she really wanted him to hear.

It sort of upset him, to be completely honest. Despite the fact that he was also working with Malfoy. "Working together on what?" he questioned.

"Well, er..." To tell, or not to tell? If she told him, she would feel less guilty, have someone to talk to about this nonsense, and not be alone if Draco should double-cross her. If she didn't tell him, she would keep Draco's trust, keep Harry from being angry...

"If I tell you, I'll be breaking Draco's trust." She said quietly. "So if I do tell you the truth, you can't tell anyone else. Except, erm, well, one other person."

He looked at her curiously, "Hermione, what is going on?" It wasn't the intent but he found himself growing upset with her. He didn't like being left out of things and she was making it seem as though it was a large secret she was keeping.

All right, now she really didn't have a choice.

"We told one of the professors. I knew you wouldn't approve of that, but Draco agreed with me, and we did it. I'm sorry that I lied to you, but I knew you'd be upset." Hermione said, trying to meet his gaze.

It was just a professor, he told himself, it couldn't possibly be that bad. Harry didn't understand the logic is telling a professor, however, as he was quite certain that none of them played an important role in any of this. He was still upset with their decision to act behind his back, but now his curiousity was also piqued. "Who did you tell?" The question itself was simple enough but his anger threatened to spill out. "And why, exactly, did you think it was necessary to do all of this without talking to me about it?" Though he didn't intend to, his last question had a bit of a biting edge to it.

"Maybe because I knew you'd act like this?" She asked, slightly annoyed at his anger, but not surprised. "Harry, you know that no one here trusts us! We need someone who knows about this time, and can help us keep our secret."

Hermione's voice was trembling. "But clearly, I'm the only one who cares about saving the future!"

She had no reason to be getting angry with him, he decided. He hadn't been the one who had been going behind her back. "The only one who cares? Hermione, have you gone completely mad?" He didn't want to get off track because it was still important to him to find out who was told, he needed to see how much damage was caused. "Who did you tell?"

Hermione stood up, upset. "I haven't gone completely mad! Harry, if you honestly care, then why am I the one running around trying to set up secret organizations and researching all the books in the library? I'm the one plotting and lying to keep our secret safe. Have you been working to discover a way to defeat Voldemort?"

"If you really want to help me save the future, then maybe you should stop being depressed about everyone who died, and start working to help them live!" She huffed, tearing up.

"I haven't just been sitting around and not doing anything! You said it yourself that these people don't trust us, how are we possibly going to get them to trust us if we don't try and befriend them? That's what I've been doing, Hermione. Trying to get to know people." Having ulterior motives to that came into play as well. "Who did you tell?" he asked once more, realizing that she still hadn't answered the question. Meaning, of course, that he didn't really want to hear the answer.

She closed her eyes and sat back down next to him. Obviously, he wanted to get to know his parents--she couldn't blame him for that.

"Yeah, you're right. I'm sorry. Getting to know them would be useful. But still, I could use help figuring out how to stop Voldemort before he gains power. I think you can find a balance between the two." She smiled. "Actually, I've managed a few conversations with the Marauders myself."

She stared at him for a full minute before sighing heavily. "Harry, who do you think I told? If you were in my position, who would you have told?" Hermione tried to meet his eyes. "I told Remus. I told Professor Lupin. I'm sorry that I kept it from you, but I'm not sorry that I told him the truth." Then she mentally braced herself for the inevitable explosion.

Harry tried to say something numerous times but he didn't want to yell. He really didn't want to say anything he would regret later, which he inevitably would. "I just... I can't talk to you right now." He said simply.
