A Familiar Dance

Four Am. A time of night Harry was growing achingly familiar with. Sometimes for the most pleasant reasons, but that night, it was decidedly the opposite. He perched on the narrow fire escape outside their bedroom window and looked up at the darkened sky. It was clear--a rarity for London--and the stars twinkled brightly above, enjoying their last hour to shine before the sun took over its domain again.

His thin t-shirt was no match for the chill in the air, but Harry welcomed it. The cold suited him.

He lit the tip of a fag and inhaled.

Draco joined him, as he always did, folding his impossibly long legs beneath his body with a grace Harry was never able to ignore. Wordlessly, Draco slipped the cigarette from Harry's fingers and drew it to his mouth. Smoke blew from his lips in a loose elegant spiral before disappearing into the night air.

"I didn't mean it," Draco said. Those words were as familiar as the night. Harry had known they would come, but with them something unclenched in Harry's chest and he could breathe again.

"Me neither."

"Good." Draco took Harry's hand in his. "Now come back inside."
