Grey Haven OOC's Journal -- Day [entries|friends|calendar]
Grey Haven OOC

GAME CLOSED

The Road goes ever on and on

Out from the door where it began.

Now far ahead the Road has gone,

Let others follow it who can!

Let them a journey new begin,

But I at last with weary feet

Will turn towards the lighted inn,

My evening-rest and sleep to meet.

-- J.R.R. Tolkien

New Character! [26 Apr 2012|04:17pm]
Erin here, with character number TWO!

I would like to introduce you to Jaden Walker. Jaden has been a resident of New Haven for three years, though most locals think it's only been two. Why? Because she spent her first year in the Lodge. See, Jaden didn't take the change especially easy; she had a lot of learning to do.

Previously to crossing through the Haze, Jaden didn't exist - the creature that did was a subspecies of Infernal commonly known to the supernatural world as a Hell Hound (you can read about them in the Beastiary entry under Infernals). Raised her entire life as a beastial slave, Jaden (who's True name only herself and her Breeder know) had a pretty nasty case of Stockholm Syndrome when she first came to Grey Haven, but over time things improved. Greatly. You can read the details in her bio, which is open to everyone.

As for her personality:

Jaden has grown a lot since her fateful first arrival to Grey Haven, but it took a lot of intensive, dedicated work to deprogram what had been a mind twisted by countless generations of hellish breeding and cruelty. To her credit, the buried intelligence of her species had not been completely weeded out of grasp; Jaden learned to communicate fluently within her first month as a human (and completely stopped growling by the end of the following month). Socialization and trust-building by the dedicated keepers of the Lodge turned a dangerous, near wild creature in a woman's body, into a relatively adjusted, productive member of their little society.

Three years after first arriving, Jaden is considered a quiet, somewhat reclusive woman who's entire demeanor can often be described as a little mysterious - also, slightly ominous. It's always difficult to tell exactly what she's thinking, considering her expression rarely shifts beyond three or four degrees of emotion in either direction. Her smiles are usually close-lipped and slightly tilted into one cheek, her frowns are more a sharp expression of her eyes than any other feature, but the common degree is an intense breed of stillness that always feels as though it might break into frenzy at any given second. Every thought, every action, even every expression of hers seems to be run through a thick filter in her mind. And even then, there are times she can come off a little... needlessly snippy.

Whether by nature or otherwise, Jaden has a tendency to be possessive of things she considers either belonging to her or in her care. More than a few college students and weekend readers at the library have learned not to bend the pages of library books, and don't try to take a french fry off her plate. As long as people respect her boundaries, she can be perfectly civil - even enjoyable in the right company (that is, people who don't mind her monosyllabic nature.) She doesn't mind having conversations with people, so long as they're okay with carrying most of the topic weight. If she's really interested, she'll serve inquiring questions to keep the interaction going.

As far as relationships go, she's been 'advised' against forming any solid attachments with permanent residents until she fully integrates, and that was fine with her. For a while. Now that Jaden has realized that she's her own 'person', with no one to answer to besides herself and the laws of humans, in the last year she's been slowly emerging, pushing herself to learn more about the people that share her sanctuary.

A few more facts:
-she's the local librarian (and is almost always reading)
-she loooooves to people-watch, almost to the point of staring
-she has a tendency to chuckle at very inappropriate times.

So hit me up if you want to do anything with Jaden!

Hallo! I'm Crys and it's lovely to meet you all.

I'm bringing in Naiya (Her real name is nigh unpronounceable unless you speak cetacean or cephalopod). She's a brand new arrival rather fresh off the truck, literally in fact. Don't ask what it's like to hitchhike from the coast of California when one is an octopus from the waist down. She's a Cecaelia, think of Ursula from The Little Mermaid but without the crazy, the info for her species is up in the bestiary now.

Naiya is a little disillusioned with her own kind, her own society at the moment and is very interested in learning more about what it's like to be a human. She's the type of person who doesn't talk about her problems. She's shy but friendly and has a tendency to be bubbly and bouncy when she's feeling comfortable in her surroundings.

At the moment she's staying at the Lodge, which is probably good since she's still trying to get her Land Legs in more ways than one. Which means that at the moment, while nimble and dexterous, she's quite clumsy.
