"Showing Him the Green Card," Luna/Dean, PG Title: Showing Him the Green Card Author: green_amber Pairing: Luna/Dean, Luna/Rolf (sort of), references to Luna/others Warnings: none Rating: PG Word Count: 338 Summary: Luna announces she's getting married, which comes as a bit of a surprise to her boyfriend of fifteen years. A/N: Yes, I'm still in denial over this Rolf thing. LOL.
"You're going to what?" Dean yelped, whirling around abruptly and leaving a streak of green across the painted sky.
Luna didn't even seem to hear him. She hummed softly to herself and strung a dried Dirigible Plum onto the necklace she was making.
Dean drew in a deep breath and let it out. "We've always agreed that if we wanted to see other people, we could."
"Mmm-hmm."
"And I never complained about Neville, or Hermione..."
Luna shook her head and smiled.
That was the worst part, that after fifteen years she could end it with that serene smile on her face, that obviously she didn't share Dean's feelings. Which, at this particular moment, bore an uncanny resemblance to having his heart trampled on by a Crumple-Horned Snorkack. "And if I've asked you once to marry me, I've asked you a hundred times, but you always told me it was just a meaningless piece of parchment."
"And so it is," she said, and went back to the tune she was humming.
"THEN WHY IN THE NAME OF MERLIN'S DIRTY SOCKS ARE YOU GIVING THIS MEANINGLESS PIECE OF PARCHMENT TO SOME BLOKE YOU'VE JUST MET?"
"Because the Nargle takes five years to reach maturity, silly."
This was so far from what Dean had expected that he could only stare, mouth agape.
"You didn't seriously think..." Luna set down her work and crossed the room, took both his hands in hers. "Rolf is planning an in-depth study of Nargle development, and the only way the Department of International Magical Cooperation will let him stay in Britain that long is if he marries a British witch."
"...Oh."
"It'll be nothing but a formality. He's not at all interested in me, except as an expert on Nargle behavior."
"The man must be mad, then..."
"Not mad at all. He's got a boyfriend back in Sweden, you see. I imagine they'll miss each other terribly."
