Herbal Medicine and Natural Healing

About:Are you interested in natural healing, folk medicine, and herbalism? Everyone's welcome, regardless of beliefs, lifestyle, or race. We all have one very important thing in common: we believe in preserving the knowledge of natural healing and folk medicine so the information is not lost to time, and helping one another use the earth's bounty and gifts to preserve our health without being heavily reliant on chemicals and drugs.

DISCLAIMER: Members and maintainers are not licenced medical doctors and no claims are made for anything suggested being a sure-fire cure for everyone. We are not practicing medicine, but instead sharing folk wisdom and natural healing information which endured for centuries, and recent studies have shown there was something to what those wise old women did after all. Follow advice given here at your own risk, and users are highly recommended to do their own research for any possible side effects before continuing.

Just because it is 'natural' does not automatically make it 'safe'. Many herbs are also medicines in their own right, and care should be taken accordingly.

RULES

  1. Adhere to the InsaneJournal Terms of Service.

  2. Do not make claims for healing. Suggestions for things to try are why we are here, and personal accounts, but we are not doctors. We are not practicing medicine. If you try to present yourself as doing so, then you can be liable and held at risk of a lawsuit.

  3. If someone is new to natural medicine, think twice before suggesting possibly risky remedies. For an example, it's one thing for someone to remove a splinter with tweezers -- it takes far more skill to extract a bullet.

  4. If you suggest a remedy which you know or believe to be possibly risky, be as clear and detailed about it as possible, and provide links or reference when you can.

  5. When posting a request for help, include some kind of information regarding your experience and comfort level with herbalism. If this information is not given, commenters should ask, especially if a recommendation might be more complex or potentially risky.

  6. Behave in a mature fashion. Be respectful toward each other and the diversity herein. Not everyone will have the same values or beliefs as you do. Treat them as you yourself would wish to be treated.

  7. Understand that for many, natural healing goes hand in hand with spirituality. Unless you state up front that you do not welcome prayer, or are not comfortable with metaphysics, do not be offended if help is offered from those quarters. And if you do state this information, please endeavor to not be insulting or catty about it, 'kay?

  8. Do not spam the community. If you have several things to say, keep it to one post. Stay on-topic - ask yourself 'does this pertain to natural healing in some way?' and if you aren't sure, then it probably doesn't. Do not post dramatic "I'm leaving and taking my toys with me!" stamping squealing hissyfits, and don't post "Hi, I'm new here, bye" lame introduction posts either.

  9. LJ-CUT all long posts, pictures of any sort, and embedded videos.

  10. Do not change the font size or color when posting either comments or entries.

  11. Do not disable comments on your post, delete or heavily edit posts, or delete comments (beyond fixing HTML markup or wrong icon usage). These are grounds for banning, especially since the latter two are usually involved in drama and then when people whinge at the mods, the evidence to do anything about it is gone.

  12. If you're not the moderator, don't moderate. If there's a problem, let the moderators know, and let them do their job. Please.

  13. Don't feed the trolls. If you must, feed us instead. Post recipes. LOLCAT is also welcome here.

  14. Everything else aside, if you behave like a catty ass to members, you're fully entitled to reap what you sow. While the time-honored classic of finger-pointing and 'SHE STARTED IT!' is not exactly approved of here, passive-aggressive baiting to piss off members and acting like the innocent, injured party isn't welcome either. While the rule is 'be respectful', that only holds as long as it's honored in the first place.
