Victor/Apollo and Melanie/Artemis
Who: Victor/Apollo and Melanie/Artemis[OPEN]
When: Evening
Where: Akrotiri in Kalamaki
Rating: [tbd]
Status: [in-progress... and open!]

The music was playing, thumping beat of the bass slightly reverberating through the building, and people were dancing on a small dancefloor not too far off. Victor sipped his usual, Crown and Sprite, watching the crowds, enjoying himself thoroughly, smiling at words whispered in his ear, sweet Greek accent he'd come to enjoy clearly evident.

"Call me..."

It was barely a whisper, more breathed into his ear than anything else, but he heard it clear as crystal. He felt soft fingers press a small piece of paper into his palm, before the curvaceous blonde kissed him and started to leave. She turned once she reached the entrance and he raised his glass at her, smirking as he saw her smile, then blow another kiss at him.

He pocketed the digits and made a mental note to call her in a couple of days.

He checked his watch, wondering at the time, and wondering likewise if any of the others from the journals might show. He had come early on this night, having found that this particular venue tended to be conducive toward experiences he found... well, satisfactory, to say the very least. It was nearing nine o'clock.

Melanie thought that she was going to be late and not be able to meet the people that she said she was going to meet. It would have been a waste of time for some of them and she didn't want to start off on a bad note with them. She had asked several people for directions to the place she needed. She had a few sketch out a quick map because she was unable to understand what they were saying. In all, she ended up getting lost a few times, but managed to find the place that she wanted.

As she pushed the door open with one hand, she ran a hand through her blonde hair and brought it all over one shoulder. As she looked around the room, Melanie fingered a few stands of her hair and hoped that someone would catch her attention. A small sigh escaped her lips and she walked over to the bar to take a seat. Might as well relax a little and hope that she can find the people that she was going to meet. Then again, she had never really learned any of their names.

Victor nodded at the barkeep for another drink, but his eyes were instantly drawn to a woman sitting toward the other end of the bar. He had this strange sense of familiarity about her, not unlike he'd felt with the blonde at the park, Fancy, but this was different. He longed to be close to her, in a completely distinct way, almost sibling-like, and had he been more familiar with Ancient Greek, he might have described it as feeling that she was part of his oikos. He shook his head, as his drink was brought to him, and decided to walk over to her.

"Good evening," he said, smiling, hoping she spoke English. "Is this seat taken?" he gestured at the seat next to her.

Melanie ordered a drink from the barkeep when he walked over and asked her what she wanted. She wasn't all too sure what she wanted, normally she drank whatever her friends back home made and didn't complain. It took her a few seconds to try and remember the name of one and requested a Zombie. While she waited for her drink, she noticed that someone was walking over towards her. Naturally she turned her head towards the person and a strange sensation washed over her. It was a strange and bitter taste of nostalgia and something else - she was a little too happy and excited to have him walking over to her and request a seat.

"G'day," she said, also smiling, and motioned towards the seat next to her. "I don't think that my invisible mate here would mind much, so take a seat."

Victor noticed the accent instantly, and was captivated by it. But there was something more about her voice, something that screamed of familiarity to him, but he was sure he had never seen her in his life.

He found himself chuckling at her joke, quite liking her sense of humor. "Ah, well, if he won't be too offended, then thank you so much," he said, taking the seat. He was quite pleased in her company, and in a different way than he would normally feel around women. That is, he had no intention of coming on to her. Weird, because she was very, very pretty. The woman was beautiful, to say the least, with an ethereal quality about her.

"My name's Victor," he said, in a very New York sort of way. "Australian?" he inquired. It was a question he need not have asked, on first glance, but he wanted to make sure his supposition was correct. She could, after all, have been from New Zealand, or something like that.

The smile on her face grew bigger when she heard him chuckle - not many people laughed at her jokes, so when they did she knew that they were funny. At least, that was what she thought and wouldn't want to think of it any other way. "Aye, he's a bit of a prude anyway.. Never wants to have too much fun." Melanie nudged Victor's side with her elbow before she took her drink in hand for a taste sip.

"I am Malanie, it is ace to meet you." Carefully she placed her drink on the bar counter and turned to him when he asked if she was Australian. "Right, I am an Aussie. Moved here from Oz not too long ago." Her head tilted to the side as she tried to pinpoint where his accent was from. "Mm.. Must be seppo.." Her lips pursed together slightly and she nodded. "Not sure where though, heard a few with your accent once on the beach."

She had a beautiful, radiant smile, one that he liked, quite a bit. He only wanted to see her smile -- and where had that thought come from? He felt himself smile broadly at her joke, and the elbow-nudging seemed familiar to him. But where had it come from, this feeling of familiarity?

"Ah, I see," he said. "I've always wanted to go diving there, Great Barrier Reef and all, but haven't gotten to yet." He tilted his own head, in a very similar fashion, at her statement, not knowing that seppo meant American. He could use his context clues, though, and figured his accent was plain enough, so he decided to play it safe, and half-nodded. "I'm from New York," he said. "Yankees and Statue of Liberty and all that jazz."

Victor had this strange and comforting warmth coming from him, she had never experienced it with anyone else before. Not even her own parents. Truth be told, she often felt out of place, but she still loved them deeply, just a different kind of love. How was it that she felt so connected with him when she just met him. It felt so right being here next to him - normally something like this would bother her and make her squeamish, but it wasn't like that. Almost like he was her missing half.

"Believe me mate, it's a beauty. Some ace waves out that way too, though I've been tempted to head down to the coast and catch a few here. Not sure if the surfing is good here or not." She smiled a little and grinned a little at the way his head was tilted like hers. "Who knows, maybe I'll take you out there? Don't know if your a shark biscuit or not."

"I've never been to the States myself. Been to a few other places, but never there. Mostly because my mum had a few bad experiences there." She shrugged a little and took a sip of her drink before reaching into her bag to pull out a ziplock baggie filled with cookies. "Cookie?"

Victor could feel the same thing around Melanie, a proximity he'd never felt with his own family. He'd felt something similar around Tristan, that one fuzzy night at that club, and with Fancy, that day at the park... and afterwards, a similar sort of familiarity that he'd denounced as in his head or something like that. But there was a distinct connection here; she was a part of him.

"I'd be up to try it," he said. "Gotta warn you, though, I haven't been surfing since I was at Stanford a couple of years ago." How long had it been? He'd lost count. "Baseball coach used to get real pissed off at me over it, tell me I was going to break my neck, become shark bait or something," he shook his head with a laugh.

He regarded her seriously, though. "States aren't that bad. There are rough patches here and there, but all in all, not bad." A single word, however, brought him into reverie. "Cookie? Oh, you are a goddess!" he said, grinning ear to ear.

Tucking some of her hair behind her ear, Melanie bit onto her bottom lip and listened to him talk. She could listen for hours and it wouldn't phase her how much time had gone by. What is all of this.. These feelings..? Her eyebrows were pushed together slightly, creating a crease between them as she thought about it hard. It was like the answer was there, under layers and layers of thick ice that needed to be chipped away.

"Only reason they attack humans is because when we're paddling out into the water on the board, we look like seals and other things they feed on." Melanie looked herself over to make sure that she wasn't geeking out all over - animals were her passion and she could be a nerd when it came to talking about them. "Ah.. Never one for baseball.. I was always into track and field, swimming, and I did tennis my last year in high school.. Got into college mostly for track and field, and swimming."

Shrugging again, she picked a cookie out of the bag and handed the rest to him. "Mum is over protective. She almost had a heart attack when I told her that I was moving here.." Melanie looked down and slightly. "I just couldn't stay away.. Kinda strange sounding, but I often felt like this place was calling to me."

[[You're welcome! XD I have to look them up to place them in what she says.]]

Victor nodded, listening intently as she described the sharks and their feeding habits, and the seals. It was evident that this was one of her passions, one of the things that drove her. And then she said the words track and field. "Oh, track? Which events?" he asked, captivated.

He nodded, agreeing with her notion of Greece wholeheartedly. "I know what you mean!" he said. "I had this pull toward here. It's strange, I've never been to Greece before this trip, but now, I know I've never felt more at home. It's... weird, really." He took a cookie from the bag cheerily, looking at her intently still. "Thank you so much," he said, taking a bite. "Mm, these are delicious!" he exclaimed. "I've never had cookies this good!" He signalled to the barkeep. "First couple of rounds are on me, since you brought cookies!"

The enthusiasm that Victor was showing would have made her whole day change around if she had the worst day in the existence of the world. She wanted to ask him if he felt the strange surge of emotions and bitter, yet faint, taste of nostalgia. What was it that she was trying to remember, something that both her body and mind wanted to uncover, but there was something keeping her from doing so. Hopefully time would tell and this wouldn’t be the first and last time that she would ever be able to see him. Just the mere thought of never being able to see him or be around him pained her deeply – a pain that was overwhelming and almost flooded her if it were not for the happy look that was present on his face.

“I was in a few events.. Back in high school, I did long distance running, 3200 meters..,” she trailed off for a moment and whispered some silent math to herself. “about two miles.. but I could run a lot longer than that.. When I got into college 5000 meters, 3.1 miles, and even running 10,000 meters, 6.2 miles was somewhat easy more me.” She smiled softly and watched as he enjoyed the cookie. “Hurdles, high jump, javelin, and a few others were other events that I liked.. I also did archery!” The last part slipped out with a happy ringing tone to it. “I don’t normally tell people since I get funny looks.. but, it was my biggest passion besides helping animals out..” Picking up her drink, she took another sip and placed it down. “Thank you, I’ll take that into consideration once I have finished the one before me..”

Melanie was slightly shocked when he had told her the way he felt about Greece. So, I am not alone on this..? If he feels the same way that I do.. Maybe.. She shook her head and got that thought out of her head once more. It was pointless and rather rude to ask that right now, she would have to wait – then again, maybe it couldn’t. “Feeling at home is nice.. Odd how you find home among people you’ve barely met and in a place you grew up knowing almost nothing about..”

"Oh, 5k! I did that one at Stanford; they recruited me when they saw me at baseball practice, never considered track before that. Also did the 400 hurdles, but you? That's amazing!" he said, with a degree of reverence. He was impressed, and it typically took quite a bit to impress him. But wait! "Archery?!" he exclaimed. "That's very cool!" he said, enthusiastically, completely captivated.

He considered her question, sipping his Crown and Sprite. "It's the oddest thing I've ever felt. Here, in this place, I feel... I don't know, connected to things, and to certain people. It's like there's something more there, beneath the surface, but I'm missing it, somehow. I don't understand how it is that I can feel this way, but it's... well, how I feel."

He looked at the cookies, then at her, something jarring his memory. Cookies. He had always been a sucker for cookies, but these were different, better than any he had tasted, and it was now that he recalled the exchange over the journals not too long before. And her name, Melanie. Did she have-- no, there was no way. He sipped his Crown and Sprite again, looking at her curiously, his head tilting just slightly to the side for a moment. Archery. An image flashed before him, so quick it took but a fraction of a moment, but in that brief span of time, he saw her. Platinum blonde hair freely blown back by the wind, clear, aquamarine eyes focused intently on a target, drawing back a glistening, golden bow...

"This is going to sound strange," he said, carefully. "And I'm sorry if it seems completely random, but do you have a journal?" he asked. It was a vague enough question, he reasoned, with the way he had worded it. There was just a slight bit of emphasis on the last word, meant to stress it just a little, and he hoped she would understand his question, if she was one of the ones from the journal. But that would not make her just one of the ones from the journal, now, would it? She would be the one with whom he'd enjoyed corresponding and exchanging comments the most. And if she was not? Well, he hoped sincerely that she would not be too weirded out by him. He could always tell her it was some sort of book project he was working on, or something of the sort. Yes, that would work. He would bring in his writing, if need be.

Melanie propped her elbow on the counter of the bar and leaned forward as she listened to what he had to say. By the looks of it, he also had a passion for running. It was someone that she had a hard time talking about with people; since most had other hobbies and the ones that she had were more physical than social. Having someone who showed as much excitement as she did when it came to things that she enjoyed made talking to a stranger a lot easier. Then again, was Victor really a stranger? Melanie knew that she had never met him before this day, but there was so much about him that was familiar, comforting, completing, and various other things all wrapped up into one individual. By the way they were acting; the other patrons of the bar could mistake them for best friends or siblings. Who knew that people could get along in such a harmonious way in this day and age?

“I did the 400 as well!” She grinned more and marveled about how they had something else in common, well shared an interest in. “How fast were you? My best was around 54 seconds..” Melanie’s voice trailed off a little, her mind was trying to bring something to the surface, but it vanished as quickly as it had come. “I ran a marathon twice, both times were when Sydney was holding their annual one.. I felt bad for the people who were winded and unable to move about an hour to an hour and a half into it, I was rather relaxed during the whole thing, could be the long distance training that I did, but towards the end is when I really started to feel it. Felt slightly odd that it would bother me, but I’m only human so my body has limits somewhere.”

Her eyebrows pushed together once more as she listened to what he said about this place. “You are not alone in feeling like that, mate.” Carefully she placed her hand on his shoulder, maybe to comfort him if he was feeling upset about the whole thing. It could be some strange urge to touch him and make sure that he was real and not some figment of her imagination or delusion of things that her mind was making up. He shook her head slightly to push those thoughts out of her head.

Again her head tilted when he had asked her about a journal. What a strange thing to—not so strange if he was one of the people that she had talked with over the journal. “I had never been one for journals. Mostly because I was afraid that my older brothers would find it, read the things that I had placed inside of it and make fun of her for the rest of eternity. “But, there was one in my new apartment the other night. I do not remember buying it, so I had thought that because it was magically there, that the owner had left it there as a strange warming gift?” She shrugged some, emphasizing slightly on magical like he had on journal.

Victor's mouth opened and shut several times, surprise clearly evident in his features. "Er... 54 seconds, too," he said, clearly amazed at the coincidence. He nodded, listening as she described her experience with the marathon, his own sports experiences very parallel to hers. Indeed, he had always noted he had an aptitude for physical activity, and could not quite explain it, but now, seeing someone who seemed to share the same thing, was an explanation really necessary? He thought not.

Her hand at his shoulder felt natural, as though it belonged there, for some reason. He could feel a tingle there, where she was touching him, a rush of sensations and images coming to him in a flash, a mere fragment of a second. Golden, glistening bow, hunting carefully, blonde hair blowing in the wind, taking aim...

He could feel his heart lighten, skip a beat, almost, though the implications that came with that were not quite right. He was elated, content in the possibility that she, too, was part of the peculiar situation surrounding the journals. Her particular emphasis on the word magical made it feel all the better. This was not romance, not the sort of thing smutty escapades were made of; this was different, a sort of sibling-like quality, familiar, best-friends thing, if you will.

"Apparently journals showing up like magic, housewarming gifts is a common trend in this town," he said, grinning at her. He took another cookie, enjoying it, clearly. "What is your favorite kind of cookie?" he asked, an apparent non-sequitor.

"Amazing.." Melanie thought that she had thought the word, but it managed to escape her lips and there was no getting around it. For a moment, the smile on her lips faded away, but it make back quickly. "That is kinda slow for a guy you know." Once again she nudged his arm with her elbow, but something happened that didn't before. A rush of images flooded her mind for a few seconds. A brilliant light came from him, a golden bow held in his hands, a bow like hers, that smile that banished any inkling of doubt from her mind...

It was gone. The moment was too short and she almost wanted to weep. Tears were starting to burn the corner of her eyes, and she had to turn her head away from him. Why was it that she suddenly became so emotional that her heart hurt worse than it ever had before? For a few seconds, she held the breath that was in her lungs, soothing herself before she turned to him with that smile once more on her face.

"Not very nice housewarming gifts, if I must say so myself." Melanie took one of the cookies from her bag and nibbled on it a little. "Well, these kind are my favorite.. Dark chocolate walnut.."

Victor raised a brow, laughing. "I'm okay with being unimpressive. I sleep better at night," he said, trying to shake this feeling he was getting around her. More accurately, it was like a set of feelings, a scope of things on which he did not have a good handle. He felt like he knew her, and quite well, at that, better than anyone, but he... knew that he didn't.

He looked at her closely, concerned when she'd looked away, something instinctive telling him above all else that she was emotional. He had the distinct urge to hold her, to comfort her, but held himself back, and was quite glad he did.

"No, not at all." He nodded, watching her still. "I um... used to like white chocolate macadamia best, of all the ones I had tried, but now..." his voice trailed off slightly, disbelief at the small pieces coming together. "Your cookies are the best I've ever had." And it was not an overstatement, at all. "Do you... well, I hate to be repetitive, but this is going to sound strange... have you mentioned the cookies in your journal?" He swallowed, hard, looking at her.

These feelings that she was having - these things there were sent in her very foundation, telling her that she knew him and that he somehow knew her. Why was it like this though? Two complete strangers feeling a strange connection that is normally shared with close siblings. The more that Melanie thought about it, the more she wanted to know if he felt the same way. She couldn't bring herself to asking him.

"I am happy that you are able to sleep at night. I would hate to worry about you not getting your beauty sleep." Melanie grinned and leaned against him some before sitting up straight again and looking to the side. Clearing her throat some, she turned to him and smiled.

"I am happy that I have been able to persuade you to the dark side.." Melanie started to wring her hands together in an evil way - much like Artemis use to when she was plotting plagues to place upon the mortal world. "Yes, I had mentioned them in my journal, but it was to a comment that someone else had made.." Melanie raised one of her perfectly sculpted eyebrows and turned to him once more.
