[log] Det. Marcus Driver and Det. Josie MacDonald
summary: Detectives Marcus Driver and Josie MacDonald make there way to the morgue to ID the second 'Robin' victim.
driver. Detective Driver received a call from Nora Fields, coroner and wife of Driver's former partner, that she was ready for Driver to take a look at the 'Robin' they'd fished out of the Bay. Marcus Driver slammed the door shut of the unmarked squad car in the parking lot of the Gotham City Coroner's office. "Damn. This is terrible. Two kids dead, and this is just the start of things if we don't catch this guy."
macdonald. Josie had met Nora earlier that week when Roger Baumbach – the first ‘Robin’ - was found. She was aware that she was the widow of Driver’s former partner, but knew little else about the woman. It seemed Driver hadn’t quite gotten comfortable enough with her to much personal information. That was all right though; Josie had her own personal information she wasn’t going to divulge yet.
Her mind wasn’t on Nora or her personal issues, however, but on the nagging feeling she had seen the face of their second victim before. She kept going over every possible situation she could think of that would put her in contact with the boy... could she have come across him while working in Missing Persons? Did he happen to live close by and she saw him on the streets? Nothing was turning up.
Josie got out of the car, leaning on her door as Driver slammed his. “We’ll catch ‘em,” she stated matter-of-factly. “Let's hope our latest vic can get us some info that will help us find and lock up the bastard.”
driver. No offense, MacDonald, but the wound was still pretty raw for Marcus. He wasn't ready to give much up about his old partner. He hadn't even gotten called to testify in court against Mr. Freeze. Detective Driver really wasn't looking forward to that at all. It was pointless, all the freaks get off for being insane. Every fucking time they got off.
"You got your head on straight, MacDonald? You look distracted." It seemed like she was thinking really hard about something. Hopefully something to do with this case. They had to keep their mind here or else there's gonna be another kid lying face down in his own blood. "Nora's good people. She'll have found something."
macdonald. "Just thinking about the kid," she replied, slamming the passenger side door shut. "I know I've seen that face before. I just can't place where." She'd know soon enough, though. Nora and her people were bound to have come up with something about the boy. "I have worked with her before, you know," Josie grinned, coming up beside Driver. Nora was the woman that inspected the first 'Robin', of course she knew her. "I seem to recall that was the time you forgot about a certain thing called Child Registration."
driver. Marcus nodded to Josie. He got in that mind frame sometimes, where he knew he recognized something but couldn't place it. It just drove him crazy sometimes. Marcus nudged Josie with his elbow. "Easy there, partner. We don't all have the attention to detail that you did." Marcus got 'stuck' with a partner that was something of a prodigy, her cases got closed with record speed. The list of names under her's at central had been the shortest since she showed up.
macdonald. There was no doubt that Josie was a good cop. She had the skill and the tenacity to see a case through to the very end, even if she was taken off of it. Not that such a thing happened often, but there was that first case with Missing Persons... It wasn't just these things that helped her take those cases in the red and turn them to black, though. Her special ability helped quite a bit, but it was a gift and hassle at the same time. How long would she be able to keep it under wraps until someone found out like Castro had?
"Even Nora knew!" Josie laughed, patting her partner's shoulder to show she was only teasing. "This case's got everyone tired, it's easy to momentarily forget things."
driver. "Yeah, yeah," Marcus shook his head at himself. It was a pretty bone-headed thing to forget about. It wasn't as if every kid got registered in that database. Only those kids with the overly protective parents were that lucky. Marcus sighed. "Yeah. Unfortunately, we didn't get lucky this time." Marcus walked up to the door and held it open for his partner.
macdonald. "Maybe. Maybe not," Josie replied, walking through the door her partner so kindly opened for her. "There is a high chance he's not on it, but you never know. I'm sure Nora would have run a check as soon as he was brought over." If he wasn't on the Child Registry like Driver suspected, then Josie hoped her memory would give them the identity they needed. If not, then this case was going to get even harder.
