Flirtlarping: the cornerstone of their relationship.
I'm basically going to treat the masquerade like a second Halloween. Dressing up's fun.

[Warded to Sebastien Lacroix]

Hey, Sebastien. You... don't really know me, but last month we actually had a conversation. But it was on the anon post. You mentioned that you could get recordings of books, and I was wondering if you were still willing to help me out with that.

[Warded to Ravinder Dhaliwal]

Scenario: The king is throwing a grand masquerade, the likes of which hasn't been seen in three generations. Nobles from far and wide come to witness the opulence, and to get a chance at securing power and influence. Finally, it seems as though war is behind the kingdom, but not all are satisfied. The king is not as beloved as he once was, and there is dissatisfaction outside the borders of his kingdom... as well as within. (Dun, dun, dunnnn.)

You: A clever and mysterious spy who has infiltrated the royal court under the cover of the masquerade. Your motivations are a mystery, but if things go your way, it could spell destruction for the royal family.

Me: A loyal agent of the king who must track down this morally questionable but very dashing spy. My dedication to my sovereign won't let me give up, but I'm torn between my duties and an undeniable attraction to my enemy (aka you).

Which is to say... do you want to play a game during the Masquerade? You hide, I'll seek.

I love you

Have we met before? How long have you been chasing me?

I think having a history together will help add tension. So... I've been chasing you long enough that I feel like we have a relationship, but not so long that I actually know anything about you.

Perhaps you don't know my name. Not many people do, but you've come the closest to uncovering my identity. Amongst the criminals and questionable elements of the kingdom, I'm known as... hm. I'll have to think about that.

I'm feeling the pressure. This grand masquerade is my last chance to make a move, and put my employers' nefarious schemes into action. But who is this clever agent of the king? How is he so dogged, and his intuition so brilliant? It's been two near-misses with this man already. Will I be able to escape him a third and final time?

Oh, hm, I guess I need to pick a name too?

Every time I learn that it's you I have to go up against, I can't help but feel excited. The matched wits, the push and pull, the flirtatious banter. No one else makes me feel this way. BUT guilt plagues me for enjoying it so much, and my peers are beginning to suspect that despite my past success, my loyalties might be compromised. I'm determined to prove to them that I can not only catch you, but also resist your charms.

What were you doing last time we crossed paths?

I could keep calling you Diego. That's a good, strong name. Loyal. Upstanding. Intriguing.

I was somewhere I wasn't supposed to be, of course. What was I after? Eavesdropping? Incriminating documents? Or worse, was I attempting to facilitate a royal assassination? You know I'm not who I say I am, but I have powerful foreign patrons. Anything short of catching me red-handed, and you could be provoking a declaration of war.

I played dumb when you found me. Pretended to be nothing more than a dissolute courtier with no bigger concerns than flirting with this serious, forbidding king's agent. You could have detained me. Questioned me for longer. Despite my mission, I almost wished you would.

Just keep calling me Diego. It'll be easier for me. I'm still getting used to this, I don't want to mess up and not respond to my cool fantasy name.

But without the proof I needed to bring you to justice safely, I had to let you go. Or was that just an excuse? I knew I could have done more, done worse, and no one would have blamed me. But the temptation to play along with your ruse was too strong! You had to leave before I let myself be seduced.

Diego Constantino Morales. [...] How about Constantino? It's your name and not your name at the same time. Appropriate for the king's steadfast right hand man.

I suspect you have some affection for me. I wonder how I can use it to my advantage... but some persistent misgiving keeps giving me pause. Is it caution? Regret? Or the remnants of that pesky conscience I've long since buried? It's been years since I've met a man so kind and noble, especially in a locale as cutthroat as a royal court.
