I'm not trying to question authority or anything, but I don't really understand what all the fuss is about the sledding. I mean, maybe I just don't understand something because I'm muggleborn, but quidditch seems just as dangerous? I mean, you're way up high on brooms jostling each other, and there are two iron balls enchanted to attack you and try to knock you off your broom. People get hurt plenty at that, right? And there were broken bones and concussions from hockey the other day, too.

And I get that there was underage drinking, and people were hurt and there was no healer on hand, but if people do this every year anyway, why don't they just turn it into a school sanctioned event? Staff being there would keep people from drinking, and Mufferaw could be there to fix any injuries.

Or is it just that we're only allowed to endanger ourselves for sports? You're allowed to get a concussion as long as it's something you can win at?

Hey. Careful there. We don't actually want another crack down on the rules. The prefects are kids too. And some of them are under a lot of pressure and need to be able to let loose too

Besides we have a guide. Ravi, Nate, Cricket and Ramirez are fun suckers who have to be serious all the time. Cricket also has a weird obsession with cussing. Quinn understands that we're all idiots and tries to minimize the damage we cause during our idiocy. Head boy and head girl are both protective weird parents who get blamed every time we fuck up. McBride is kinda just there half the time. Tess is a hard ass but doesn't give a shit about our uniform so much as she gives a shit about us disrespecting each other. And Sun-mi is the hyde to Ravi's Jekyl. Some of them are more lax with the rules. That's not a bad thing.

And that's fine, I don't want people to not get to have fun, but some people are talking like this was some completely crazy mass suicide attempt when it looks like the same kinda thing as polar bear diving to me. But I guess I'm just a sheltered muggleborn who doesn't understand anything about anything, so I just won't ask questions anymore and take my drugged tea and quarantines quietly.

You should print that up and hand it out to newbies.

Polar bear plunge was a mass suicide attempt by us. All of this is. I joined quidditch to break bones. But the staff picks and chooses what they're willing to let us do and we keep doing dumb dangerous shit in between staff sanctioned events. I know it makes no sense but all of us that participated knew it was dangerous and half us did it drunk. And most of us did it because we knew it was dangerous.

But the prefects are gonna talk about shit like this like it's our attempted suicide because the responsibility of keeping us alive falls on them. All we get are letters home and detention. And we're gonna keep making it hard for them to keep us alive.

You know that makes sense. They should probably quote you on all of that and put it in the brochure. Or like, pass it out on the first day maybe.

Really?

I mean I get it. It's dumb. We're in the middle of nowhere. We have nothing to do a lot of the time and we're expected to not fuck up the same way we would at home. This is the third time I've broken my leg. And the other two times weren't here. And every time my mom gives me a lecture about how I only get one body so I need to quit fucking it up. But magic makes you feel like there's an easy solution for everything and we're dumb enough that even if we didn't have magic, we'd still sled down a dangerous hill.

So it's stupid to lecture us while we still have grotto parties and the polar bear plunge and quidditch. But we need some of our classmates to be the responsible assholes who hold us back from going too far and actually fucking ourselves up beyond the crutch of magic. And it's not fun for them, but we need them. Which is why nobody invited them to the sledding.

But if you want an actual guide to every prefect here I can write you a guide.

I had to get a hobby to do during all the lecturing.

Don't worry. You're under the subheading of "chill prefects".

But importantly did you hear? She said I should be quoted on brochures.

When I got here I didn't know shit. So I wrote a guide for everything. Not people, but basically everything else. So yeah, I'll write you a guide. It helps.
