GHOULS JUST WANNA HAVE...TASTY MEAT SNACKS!
Who: Michelle Webster and anyone else
Where: Outside the Barn
When: September 29th, Twilight
Warning: Graphic Violence and Adult Language
Status: OPEN
Michelle carried a pail of milk into her cottage and placed it in the magical icebox. She picked up the empty she'd washed earlier and carried it out to the barn to set with other empty pails. Then she picked up two more pails of milk and deposited each one on the front porch of a cabin, knocked on the door, and moved on. One or two more chores and she'd be done for the day.
She checked over the animals. The pigs were eagerly scarfing up their dinner. The chickens were nowhere to be seen, no doubt back in their coop now that dark was falling. The goats meandered, cropping the grass. The cows were all back in the barn as well. She pushed the doors closed, and looped a chain loosely through the handles. They'd be easy to open again if anyone wanted in, but the animals wouldn't wander.
The sun was completely obscured behind the dark forest that ringed the valley. A little light remained in the sky, but it was fading fast. Crickets had begun their evening serenade. Or maybe there were some cicadas, as well. She was fuzzy on that. Loud little bastards, in any case.
Michelle had almost reached her door when she heard frantic bleats from the goats--and a remarkably human-sounded scream from one. She spun in place, but couldn't see them from where she stood. She ran around the corner of the nearest cottage and skidded to a stop.
Her heart leaped into her throat. An army of pale humanoid shapes was running almost silently toward her. The goats had scattered, crying their alarm at the top of their voices. She caught a glimpse of tiny hooved feet under a pile of several of the creatures. "Oh, shit!"
She stumbled backward, terrified for a moment--before Ceirdwyn's merciless training helped her stuff her feeling down into a dark hole. She could be scared later. She reached into the back of her waistband, grabbed her Glock and brought it up to fire.
Three quick shots hammered her ears. The nearest ghoul went down, its chest a bloody ruin. Michelle grinned savagely. She fired again, missing her shot as her target dodged to one side. Quick little bastards.
Another lunged for her. She avoided the claws trying to rake her across the torso, but the swinging arm slammed into hers with bruising force. Her handgun went flying and was lost to her in the dark. Not good. She staggered back. She drew one deep breath and bellowed "Ghouls!" But really, if gunfire didn't bring help, then it probably wasn't coming.
She wasn't surrounded yet, but she would be if she didn't get the hell out of Dodge. She didn't even glance at the door to her cottage--or any other. She'd never get inside before the ghouls swarmed her. Running was going to be a problem, too. It was getting darker by the second, and there wasn't a streetlight anywhere in the valley.
Michelle dashed to the wall of the nearest cottage and turned to put her back to it. She reached over her shoulder to draw the kindjal she carried in a sheath along her spine. The sword was short, less than two feet from pommel to blade tip, but very sharp. And she knew how to use it.
She had only a moment to prepare before the ghouls were on her.
OOC: Michelle always carries a gun as well as her sword. But that would make it too easy (and eventually she'll be out of ammo anyhow), so she lost it.
