Who: Godric and Trystan Where: Village (Dayne cottage) When: Saturday Sept 16, soon after dawn Warning: Mild swearing Status: Closed, Complete Trystan woke in a bit of a panic, bolting upright in his bed. He knew it wasn't his bed, at least not the cot he had fallen asleep on, and he knew instinctively that his brother was not there. His arm still was a bit sore but when he glanced down he noted that the gash that had been there when he went to sleep was gone. He looked around, obviously confused by all of this, and noticed an egg on the table nearby. It seemed to be hatching. It was large and part of him wondered what was inside. He learned the answer quickly enough when a small white wolf was blinking red eyes at him. The connection and the fact that he could hear the small creature in his head didn't unnerve him. He was used to that from Godric, and he picked the small thing up to hold it close to him. It was a good feeling even if it was one he'd had before to some degree. His mind went back to his brother though very quickly and he rose from the bed, walking out of the room to look for him, the tiny wolf still in his arms.
Godric was slower to wake than his brother in general. The battle the day before, followed by a night with a camp follower to distract him from his minor injuries meant his sleep hadn't been good. Something felt off though as he started to rouse. He was alone in the bed. And it was a bed, not the cot or bedroll he had on the border. Had he dreamed the battle? Was he really at the Keep? No… it didn't feel right for the keep either. He opened his eyes carefully, but fixated on the egg in front of him. It pulled him so he didn't even look around to see where he was.
Cracks were forming on the surface of the egg. It was hatching. He watched it in fascination as the cracks spread, unable to look away. A single tooth broke through, then a frustrated noise, and then the shell broke away in a point, revealing a hatching dragon. "Bloody fuck."
Trystan nuzzled the small wolf - Frost, he knew- as he walked. The small creature was in his head and he could feel the hunger in it - hatching was hard work. He searched in his pouch and finally found a bit of food, offering it to the tiny creature with a smile. “Here you go,” he murmured as he ate the treat, then licked his hand lightly. He was a gorgeous little thing that obviously needed him - though the feeling was mutual. He needed this small creature around him, and he stroked his head as he walked, finally sensing his brother and wandering into a room, where he was staring at a small dragon.
Unlike his twin, Godr hadn't woken with a panic knowing his brother was close. It had allowed him to focus on the tiny dragon who was trying to burn it's way out of it's shell now - and failing to even manage smoke - just huffing. He reassured her quietly and reached to lift her out, breaking another part of the shell to make it easier. She was stunning - her scales so dark green as to be black with warm bronze markings like sunlight breaking over the mountains at dawn. "Trys… I found a dragon."
“I found a wolf…” He displayed the small creature in his arms before moving closer to the small dragon, inspecting it closely. The wolf too sniffed at the dragon before wiggling rather excitedly. The two small creatures were curious about each other, he supposed, and he moved closer so that Frost could paw at the other animal, intrigued.
"This isn't camp, is it." It obviously wasn't the keep either, so Godr didn't need to mention that. Daywnfyre stretched her head towards the wolf, and then wiggled in turn. "Daywnfyre likes him." He was finding it difficult to pull his attention from the tiny dragon to properly assess where they were, but if there was a dragon and a wolf-pup, they must be somewhere in Valyrian holdings. "It's quiet."
“It isn’t.” Trystan shook his head faintly and stroked the baby wolf lightly again. “Frost likes her too.” Because that was fact. The tiny creatures were siblings just like Trys and Godric were. He buried his face in the wolf’s fur for a second and then looked at his brother. “It is. Are the battles over, do you think?”
"Or something pulled us away from the battle." Godr mused. Hatching dragons weren't exactly common, but certainly wouldn't be found near a border battleground. That was a place for mature, battle-ready dragons. "You didn't see the cub's mother."
“Maybe. But what could have?” It was a strange thought but there was magic in the world so he figured it was possible. He was a bit uncertain but he would manage. He could get by. His finger moved to stroke the dragon lightly, offering a smile to his brother.
"The mother maybe? Or your cub's mother? She's got to be close… wolves don't come out of eggs."
“He did though.” Trystan shrugged. It wasn't the strangest thing about this place, after all, and he tended to be accepting of new things so long as they didn't seem to be threats.
Godr's look of confusion was obvious. A wolf from an egg? "Not a wolf then?" Godr noticed the wings at that moment. "Or not a typical wolf." He didn't feel unsafe, but there was enough strangeness going on that he started looking around more carefully, debating if he needed to put on his armor, or if the swords would be enough.
“No. He's not a normal wolf but… he's good. Not dangerous.” Well. Maybe if someone tried to hurt one of the twins but not innately dangerous and certainly not so to the two of them.
The tiny dragonet squirmed wanting to be put down to play with the wolf cub and Godr set her down knowing she wouldn't go far while he armed himself as he looked around the room.
Trystan accepted that the animals wanted to play and set his own on the floor as well to romp with the small dragon. It was amusing to watch the pair, though when Godric donned his swords Trys touched his own lightly, indicating that he was ready to do battle if it became necessary.
"Trys." Godr, indicated the small glowing tablet on the small table.
Trystan walked to the table and poked it slightly, confused. Candles glowed but this was the shape of a book. Books decidedly were not glowing objects. It was much more solid too and he glanced at his brother. “Some kind of magic?”
"Must be." Not magic he knew - dragons and even winged wolves were things he knew and understood. "Let's see if there is anything else around."
Trystan nodded and examined the glowing book for a moment more before heading out of the room with his brother, the small wolf pup and dragonet following close behind, occasionally pouncing each other.
"Where were you?"
“A room like this one, really. Except with a white wolf and not a dragon.”
"Valyrian you think?" It didn't look like Valryian construction to his experience, but they were the ones with the dragons. "Armor or just swords when we go outside?"
“Swords I think. But no, I don’t think Valyrian. How would they have taken us so far without us waking or noticing?”
"They wouldn't go handing out dragon eggs to Dayne's either."
“No, probably not.” Trystan laughed and looked at the small animals still romping together, tumbling over one another like the twins had as kids. “They’re part of us. Can you feel her in you? I feel him...in my head. It’s like what connects us, but… not exactly?”
"Yes. It's how I know her name is Daywnfyre." Godr answered.
“It’s how I know his is Frost.” He ran a hand through his hair as they walked through the hall to head outside with his brother and their new creatures.
"I'm not unused to that, although having her dragon thoughts aren't quite the same as the way you think."
“No, and a wolf is not quite like how you think. It’s new, and different, and not bad at all.” He moved a bit closer to bend to pet the small wolf.
"I'm glad you aren't saying I'm dog-like."
“You’re not at all.” A smile and shrug. “Frost, come here,” he murmured, knowing he did not have to say it out loud but he did anyway. The pup instantly replied and ran over, jumping on his leg and licking his hand. ”I am yours,” came the reply in his mind and he glanced to Godric. “He’s sweet, and pretty amazing. Just like us.”
Godric smiled at his twin's smile, but then got serious again as they looked around outside the cottage. "We'll cover more ground scouting if we separate."
“Yes, we will. Left for me and right for you?” Because it seemed the best way to go about it. His wolf bounded off to the left, leading Trystan along behind him - clearly the pup thought he had selected the right direction.
"One candlemark and then meet back here."
“Absolutely.” Trystan nodded and continued to walk behind the bounding pup. It was fun, he could feel that, and he started to jog slightly to keep up - it felt like a challenge from the tiny animal, after all. Almost like a game.
Godric grinned as his twin and new puppy bounded off and turned to dragonet who was contemplating its tail. "Okay little one. Let's figure out where we are."
