Honestly, Luke was a little surprised that he wasn't more psyched. Tomorrow was his eighteenth birthday after all, the day he'd been waiting for since... well, he couldn't even remember how long. Years. Obviously some small part of him knew intellectually that eighteen was just a number, that he wouldn't actually be recognized as a real adult for some years now, but tonight, it just didn't matter. He'd be fucking eighteen. There were so many doors that would open, the most important of which was the ability to own and operate the gift he'd been looking forward to for months: his motorcycle. Realistically, Luke wasn't sure if he'd actually get the chance to ride it today, or even tomorrow. He'd still have to prove to his mother that he was responsible enough to own the bike (not to mention paying for his insurance policy) before he'd be able to do that. But still, the sentiment was there, and Luke was completely thrilled.
But all of that was tomorrow's news. At least for one more night, Luke felt like he owed it to his mother to be her little boy, even if it was just for a few more hours. Even though she insisted on throwing him the weirdest possible birthday party, even though she'd cast him as a stupid fairy in her ballet, Luke was ready to suffer all the humiliation she could throw at him because he loved his mom that much. ... And because she was buying him a motorcycle. Thus, he'd readily agreed to go out to dinner with her that night and have a little pre-birthday celebration. He knew better than to ask his dad to come along. Besides, he'd probably ruin the mood anyway.
Luke grinned as he bounded down the stairs and grabbed his mom in a tight hug. "So! Where are we going on this, my last night of being a minor?" He was curious, since she hadn't revealed any details of their little soirée.
