Professor Trimble had set for the seventh years to research a piece of advanced magic as it related to Defence Against the Dark Arts. Having a fondness for Charms, and from all the stories she'd heard about the usefulness of them, Phoebe had chosen to look into Patroni.
She'd been secretly pleased to discover that Cam had also chosen the topic, and had very tentatively (and with a lot of obvious nerves, she was sure) suggested they work together on the research.
She'd taken out all the books she'd managed to convince Madame Pince to let her, and was trying desperately to recall if she'd heard her parents ever mention anything about what it was like to produce a Patronus. James's dad had taught them all, in Dumbledore's Army, and they'd been two years younger at the time.
So why did the Patronus seem like it would be so difficult to learn?
(Besides the fact she wasn't nearly the witch that Harry Potter, or even her parents, had turned out to be).
