Never Give Up [manga review]
Never Give Up! Never give up is licensed by TokyoPop - the story revolves around Kiri who's dad's model looks they have inherited. ^.^;
The problem? Kiri's a girl! And she's not terribly impressed to have people say that she looks like an attractive man! v.v;
Her story gets worse however! See, her next door neighbour Tohya, she's in love with. Only problem is he's a bishounen, with somewhat delicate looks... Kiri is once again less than impressed that people think that he looks more like a princess than she does! T.T
But never fear! She won't give up! For She Is Determined To! One day! Be! A prettier princess than Tohya! and then she'll be able to confess her love to him. ^_^
P.S Tohya has issues of his own, and is /also/ less than impressed at being called a prettier princess than Kiri, despite his stoic attitude. o.o;
Tohya decides to work his issues through becoming a male model - recruited through Kiri's mother who runs the agency. o.O
THIS DRIVES KIRI FRANTIC! All those pretty girls, and the industry is famous for gay men... Tohya's going to be hit on.... Or lured away. She doesn't stand a chance! ;.;
But her mother (who doesn't approve of the relationship with Tohya because she things Tohya is too pretty for Kiri. Srsly.) has a plan! Kiri can protect Tohya! Just she has to pretend to be a ... male. Model. @.@;
And this is only the start of many many mad cap incidents. *_*
This is a brilliantly funny series, the characters are hilarious with their over the top reactions, and are easy to like. If you want some good old shoujo fun this is a great series to check out.
I don't know how long the series is, but I do know that there are at least eight volumes. So if your looking for an investment series this is a good one to make.
Also. The art is very attractive to look at.
Cons? Sometimes Kiri cries a little too much. D: Poor baby. I really don't like Kiri's mother. D: Kiri's dad is cool! Her mother is a bit of a piece of work.
One thing that Tokyo pop does that I don't like, is that they don't translate sfx, sound effects. I personally prefer that the artwork remains untouched, but I do, really like knowing what the sound effects are - even if they are easy to guess and I've learnt some along the way... But I sort of wish, Tokyo pop would put an asterix and the translation in a corner. D: But then again this is partly how Tokyo pop can keep their prices low and I consider Never Give Up an absolute bargain.
Series you may like/like this one if you like: Fruitbasket, Ouran highschool host club, cutexguy, dn angel.
