WHO: Flint [D7] & Kevin [D10]
WHAT: They were bound to run into each other eventually.
WHEN: Day 12, morning
WHERE: Arena
WARNINGS: Hunger Games
Kevin had perched on top of a wall in order to get a better view of the lay of the land - it was risky, sure, but he also hadn’t seen any of the other districts since he’d gotten here, and he had no idea where to start looking. He’d known that hiding from the other tributes would be a good strategy, but he hadn’t even considered the fact that perhaps hiding so well that you never found anyone to fight would be a problem. Unfortunately, the sight of a tall, blond, shirtless boy standing on top of a wall with a sword and some coyote pelt trophies wasn’t exactly a subtle one, and it was only a matter of time before someone came across him. Kevin heard the other tribute before he saw him. He whisked around and pointed the sword and whoever it was. “Who goes there?” he said, as menacingly as he could manage. “Dude, it’s me,” Flint said excitedly, forgetting that this was a game and the man with the sword could very well kill him. He liked Gemma, Reef, Rose and Achilles, but back in training it was Kevin he had felt most comfortable around. He reminded him of a lot of friends back home and the sight of him was a welcome relief. Pack politics was really stressing him out. “I don’t suppose we could agree not to stab each other today? There are a lot of careers left.” Kevin was definitely not the brightest tribute, and at the sight of his old pal from training, he instantly lowered his sword and grinned at Flint. “Duuuude,” he said, as though greeting one of his brothers or friends from home. Flint reminded him of a simpler time, back when spotting your bro meant you were definitely bros, and bros didn’t stab one another in the back. “Deals,” Kevin said. It finally occurred to him to look around to see if any of said careers had followed Flint, but he saw no-one. That was good enough for him. “You still with them, man? Did you get the chance to kill any of them yet?” He still had it in his head that Flint was just biding his time before destroying the pack from the inside-out. Flint’s smile grew wider when he agreed not to stab him. There would be a time and place for that sort of thing, but they still had plenty of tributes to get through. “Yeah man, that guy from Four. He tried to attack me from behind. Such bullshit.” Flint bridged the gap between them and grabbed Kevin’s arm enthusiastically in greeting. “We’re still together, but no way it’s lasting long. I’m hoping to clear out with Reef before the rest do something shady. If you’re looking to take down one of your own the time will be soon.” “Dude, nice work - that guy was a dick,” Kevin said, feeling very proud of Flint’s accomplishment. He clapped him on the back in congratulations. He nodded at Flint’s plan, which sounded every bit as brilliant as he’d imagined. He knew it. “You’re a genius, man. She’s hot. Like, the hottest one. Awesome.” Kevin gave Flint a knowing look, then nudged him in the ribs. “I figured I’d wait until they all stab each other, then BAM - that’s when I come in.” “That’s a good plan, man. Absolutely solid.” Flint gave him a head nod of approval. He had kind of been hoping the same, but at this point he wasn’t sure any of them would actually take the step to turn on each other. But they HAD to, right? If they were talking about it then no one was telling him and that meant he was dying first. Hell. No. “Reef’s awesome, dude. No doubt.” A light went on in Flint’s head and he looked at Kevin excitedly. “You should totally team up with us! Three against three. Sure, there are some other people out there, but we’d be unstoppable!” It would get a bit tricky when it was only the three of them left, but that was a problem for later. Kevin looked excited despite himself. “Yeah?” he said. It didn’t occur to him that perhaps Flint was lying to him. A bro wouldn’t do that. “Those are some good odds.” He scratched his chin, looking contemplative, though the viewers at home wouldn’t have known that a large chunk of what he was contemplating was about how hot Flint’s new partner was. Sure, this could create problems later once they’d taken out the other remaining careers, but he decided that was a bridge they could cross when they came to it. “Maybe. You could talk to her, see if she’d be into not stabbing me until the others are dead. That could be good for all of us,” Kevin said. Flint couldn’t believe his luck. He could possibly have the two people he trusted most in the arena fighting by his side. He wasn’t entirely sure Reef would go for it, but it was worth a shot. Unless that would make her run to Rose...No, she was his ally. She wouldn’t do that to him. Probably. He was fairly certain. At least Kevin would still have him. “I will. I definitely will. You going to be sticking around this area? Don’t worry, if she says no I’d never lead her to you. I wouldn’t play you like that.” Flint reached into his pocket to hand him a piece of jerky as a sign of good will. “I know you wouldn’t, bro. I trust you,” Kevin said, actually excited about the prospect. He’d been doing all right on his own so far, but with the help of others, they could all be doing even better. He accepted the jerky, then reached into his own knapsack and offered Flint some of his own coyote jerky. The exchange made, he gave Flint a high-five before taking off. “I’m glad I ran into you. Good luck, all right?” Kevin said. “You too. I’m sure we’ll see each other soon!” He hoped as friends. |
