Favorite books/authors/series: The Lord of the Rings, Terry Pratchett (Discworld and Johnny Maxwell), Tamora Pierce, Neil Gaiman, Heinlein, Ursula LeGuin, Temeraire (Series by Naomi Novik), the Bordertown series/shared universe, Diana Wynne Jones, Charles de Lint, the Dresden Files (Series by Jim Butcher), Crown of Stars (series by Kate Elliot), Cthulhu mythos stories not written by Lovecraft. I have just started Bujold's Vorkosigan Saga, and finished Sunshine, by Robin McKinley. I am also quite partial to Star Wars novels.
Disliked books/authors/series: I'm really not a fan of Poul Anderson, Robin Hobb, or Mercedes Lackey. Otherwise, pretty easy.
Non SF/F reading tastes: I still love YA books, as well as mysteries and historical fiction. I read some literary fiction, mostly short stories. In nonfiction, mostly mythology, history, and political science.
Other fandoms: Right now, Battlestar Galactica is my main squeeze. Runaways, Firefly, Bones, Fables, Y: the Last Man, Fullmetal Alchemist, ElfQuest. I also talk about historical slash and Nine Inch Nails a lot.
What's in your journal? Maunderings. Right now, a lot of health stuff (I've been having problems), realizations, squee over books/TV/films, leftist rambling. Some academic stuff.
Anything else? Um, ask me if you're curious! :D

I'm intrigued.
Neil Gaiman, NIN, slash, comics (omg even ElfQuest!)... check & check etc.
Also, queer amd feminist.
Oooh, Torchwood and DW!
It also seems I could learn from you about topics I know next to nothing about.
Oh, heck. To cut a long story short, you look cool.

If you think we'd get along, I'd like to add you. (And if you think we don't, that's fine, too! I won't take it personal.)

Now I have to spend the next hour to fill out that meme. (Damn you, perfectionism!)

That is, if IJ lets me. (Damn you, server move!)

Yay! After the trouble with IJ's server move, I was already worried the comment didn't get through (the notification, that is). But now the site looks stable again. Whew!

I like the idea of your meme, but you've gotten the fandom and friending topics backwards. Since it's not one specific fandom (not one specific Sci-Fi or Fantasy novel or series of novels), the fandom should be multifandom. And the friending topic should be Sci-Fi/Fantasy novels (not SF/F Novels; it took me a minute to figure out what exactly the topic was).

Favorite books/authors/series: I like Terry Pratchett's Discworld, Jim Buthcer's Dresden Files, Steven Brust, Lois McMaster Bujold, and Elizabeth Bear. There's some new stuff I'm fond of, and I need to do a reread of Naomi Novik's books to see if she stands up to rereading.
Disliked books/authors/series: I generally don't remember.
Non SF/F reading tastes: I read a lot of comic books and non-fiction.
Other fandoms: Fullmetal Alchemist, Slayers, Vision of Escaflowne, Avatar: the Last Airbender
What's in your journal? Book reviews, real-life stuff, science!, anime ramblings, art, a bit of meta about fandom, and random stuff. Generally whatever pops into my head.
Anything else? I'm a grad student in astronomy, and bad science is my weakness. I write fanfiction and occasionally do fanart, but most of that gets posted in my writing journal.

Favorite books/authors/series: Oh there are a lot. Sara Douglass is my top favorite.
Disliked books/authors/series: There really haven't been any that I've come across yet that I absolutely hate.
Non SF/F reading tastes: Pretty much anything. Except romance. I'll read just about anything else, though.
Other fandoms: Fullmetal Alchemist, Invader Zim, and, well, they're listed on my profile. XD
What's in your journal? Stuff about my life, usually. Sometimes I talk about fandom, fanfiction, TV, music, or video games.
Anything else? Nothing I can think of.

Age: 21
Favorite books/authors/series:
Books: Sunshine by Robin McKinley, Heart of Gold by Sharon Shinn, Avalon High and Jinx by Meg Cabot, and Blood and Chocolate by Annette Curtis Klause
Authors: Charlaine Harris, Simon R. Green, Scott Westerfeld, Meg Cabot
Series: (I'm going to assume we're counting vampire novels as "Fantasy") the Southern Vampire series and the Harper Connelly series by Charlaine Harris, the Nightside series by Simon R. Green, the Midnighters series, Peeps series, and Uglies series by Scott Westerfeld, the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling, the Morganville Vampires series and Weather Warden series by Rachel Cain, the Mediator series by Meg Cabot, the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer, the Jennifer Scales series by Mary-Janice Davidson and Anthony Alongi, and Modern Faerie Tales series by Holly Black
Disliked books/authors/series: I don't particularly dislike any of what I've read; some I don't quite like as well as others, but I can usually find something enjoyable about any given book or book series. I will say, though, that Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake Vampire Hunter series has been lacking a whole lot since about the fifth book. And that Mary-Janice Davidson's Undead series could use a little depth. Ok, a lot of depth.
Non SF/F reading tastes: Chick lit (mostly that of Meg Cabot), Young Adult, some Supernatural Romance (you know, the Sci-Fi/Fantasy books you'd find in the Romance section at Barnes and Noble), some classic literature (ok, just Jane Austen), Mystery/Crime
Other fandoms: I have quite a few fandoms I participate in (mostly reading fanfic) in some way, but the ones I'd consider my most active (because it'd be a bit much to list all of them here) are Harry Potter, Bleach, and Doctor Who (I ship Harry/Ginny, Ichigo/Orihime, and Doctor/Rose, if you're curious.)
What's in your journal? A mix of personal and fandom stuff. I also have a fondness for polls.
Anything else? I'm very specific about what I like, but I don't force my preferences on others. :)

Favorite books/authors/series:
Neil Gaiman, although I think he's better at short stories and the comics medium than novels. In general, I think I've been influenced way more by stuff like Blade Runner, ElfQuest, and Poppy Brite's earlier works than, say, Lord of the Rings or Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Michael Ende was a favourite author of my childhood, I still think the Neverending Story is damn big literature. Recently I've read some China Miéville and really liked it, I guess he could become the newest addition to the author favs. Used to read a lot of Discworld novels, but that has lessened quite a bit, although I'll never stop loving Monstrous Regiment. Oh, and how could I forget Clive Barker? Great imagination, great mix of horror and fantasy.

Disliked books/authors/series:
Uhm. I'm hard to please, I guess? I mean, you know what they say... "90% of everything is crap". Anyways. I have a deep-seated (and at times irrational) aversion against series with a bazillion parts and always complain how apparently authors aren't capable anymore of writing less than a trilogy. Besides that, I stopped reading Anne Rice after The Body Thief, I was disappointed by Brite's Exquisite Corpse, and I really wanted to love Wraeththu but couldn't (purple prose and gender-related issues). I also pretend The Dark Tower ended after the third or fourth book, depending on my mood. Writing yourself into a story = dealbreaker. And I'll never, ever read something by Laurell K. Hamilton. And yet, for some reason I find it harder to keep track of my disliked books/authors, than the ones I like. Most times I only remember them when someone else brings them up.

Non SF/F reading tastes:
Non-fiction: GLBT topics, media/movies, music subcultures, a bit of science and psychology. And lots of comics in various genres.

Other fandoms: Sandman (my main fandom), Torchwood, Doctor Who, Supernatural. Used to be rather invested in the DCU (Batclan) and the X-Men movieverse, but they've taken the backseat lately.
Lots of smaller ones - Blade Runner, Alien Nation, A.I., stuff like that.

What's in your journal?
Rants and thoughts about GLBT issues, gender, and feminism. The occasional link roundup. Tutorials and helpful stuff for InsaneJournal or the 'net in general. I really love polls.
I'm addicted to fandom meta, so there'll be fannish stuff. Fic (original or otherwise) is rare, though I'm sometimes rambling about original characters and headspaces from the meta angle.
Daily life? Not so much.
You can take the tour, if you like.

Anything else?
I write mainly in English, but a few entries are in German.
As I'm a transgendered feminist queer, treating my journal as a safe space is very important to me. Things like homo- or transphobia, victim-blaming, or unwillingness to face one's own privilege are great ways to make me kick you off the flist. Doesn't mean I expect people to know everything from the start or don't allow asking questions (nobody's perfect). It means I expect them to listen, and to respect my boundaries.
My friendslist is more like a reading list, actually, so in case I don't add you back, it's nothing personal. Probably just means we don't have many interests in common. However, as I don't friendslock any posts besides music/media ones, you wouldn't miss much, anyway.

Favorite books/authors/series: man, this is hard to answer, 'cause i read a lot of crap stuff. i'll read pretty much anything these days, and am always willing to broaden my horizons. must be well written, however. a good plot is irrelevant to me if the author mixes metaphors (unless they do it on purpose). yeah, i'm a snob.
Disliked books/authors/series: Harry Potter, as of Book 7. Craig Ferguson was right: she must have been drunk when she wrote the last 3 books. also... hmm... Chris Tolkien for publishing every last rough draft his father ever wrote. for god's sake, if the man had wanted that, he would have done it himself!
Non SF/F reading tastes: bad (really bad, as in really really bad mystery novels. like Anne Perry *hides face in shame* `i also enjoy nonfic- autobiographies, history/archeology, forensic anthropology, true crime... the more depressing the better. and speaking of which, anything published before 1900.
Other fandoms: whooboy. Harry Potter (still!), Doctor Who (old school), Deadwood, Buffy the Vampire Slayer but NOT Angel, Age of Sail pseudo-historical fic, Tin Man, The Authority, LOTR as previously implied.
What's in your journal? a lot of bitching. some fandom stuff; i'd like there to be more. random links. no comments to speak of. poor me.
Anything else? i'm nicer than i seem. really :-)

as for dragons flossing, i assume they use those pesky damsels. they've got to be good for something.

Favorite books/authors/series: Song of Ice and Fire, Witch World Series. My favorite author is Neil Gaiman. I enjoy dark fantasy set in believable worlds; this often means little magic, but I'm actually rather fond of magic systems. (I can't pick more favorite series because everything has flaws).
Disliked books/authors/series: things with little plot and no world/character development, like Eragon, and books with more philosophical rambling than actual plot, i.e. The Prince of Nothing or Sword of Truth.
Non SF/F reading tastes: crime, mystery, horror.
Other fandoms: Devil May Cry, Castlevania, Labyrinth (a 1986 movie with David Bowie).
What's in your journal? Reviews of what I read - fantasy books and fanfiction, mostly DMC.
Anything else? I really like more books than I have listed. :)
