Ernie didn't like what Death Eaters stood for any more in the village than he had in his real time. However, the varying time periods muddied the line. His first real experience with them here involved Rabastan, his roommate, who he truly liked. If he thought too much of home, he felt guilty for it, but he quickly learned holding onto anger did more harm to him than the person he was angry with. Besides, Rabastan didn't seem ready to go casting the killing curse any time soon. When Ernie first arrived, he thought differently, but Colin helped him realize this place was all some people had. Maybe Ernie didn't always feel like the village was home for a bloke like him, but he couldn't deny that he was happy to have extra time with people like Colin and Cedric. In that spirit, he mostly tried to act politely toward all, but he was still the Ernie who fought for the Light during the second war. If a movement really did start again, there was no question of his loyalty. He hoped it wouldn't come to that, but he couldn't swear there was no chance of it either. It was the question on everyone's mind when a new Marked one appeared. Some of them deserved second chances like everyone else, but others, well, Ernie knew not everyone was innocent. Cedric's death was proof. Ernie didn't know if this Peter committed his crimes yet or not, but he didn't think running after someone did much good so he went to Cedric instead. Let the fire burn out before cooler heads prevailed. Ernie intended to be there for the victim, not the murderer.
Before leaving his cottage, he grabbed a thermos, filled it with tea, and charmed it to keep warm. He ignored his dogs' whines as he shut the door behind him. He was at Cedric's within moments. He knocked firmly. "Cedric?"
