The Matthew Shepard Act
One of my brothers works for a congressman, and says the office is taking A LOT of calls right now about the Matthew Shepard Act. I'm sure many of you know about it by now, but here's some info: http://lezgetreal.com/?p=9708
Callers from the Right are saying that if passed, people's Freedom of Speech will be jeopardized, specifically Christian leaders (pastors, priests...), because they won't be able to speak negatively about homosexuality without it being viewed as a hate crime.
If this means something to you, and you have a minute (that's seriously all it will take), call your Representative and do what you can to set the record straight. Tell them that the Matthew Shepard Act only deals with violent crime (NOT speech) and urge them to help pass it. Find your Rep. here: http://www.house.gov/house/MemberWWW.shtml (Click on the name, and find the number to their Washington Office.)
It could be voted on in House of Representatives as early as next week.
