Who: Sigyn [[info]victorious_girl] & Sleipnir [[info]redhorse]
What: Just a simple meeting.
When: Long, long ago before Loki got himself chained underground.
Where: Asgard.
Warnings: None

The faithful eight-legged steed of Odin cavorts in the fields, sometimes when the All-Father seemed in foul moods- Sleipnir would receive a sharp whack on the nose that warned him to stay away until later. Then the horse would whinny softly while standing by and seek attention, perhaps gain a treat or two, however before any of this happened time had to pass. And in order to pass said time, Sleipnir would run, jump and kick.

Currently he was doing an eight-shaped lap, over and over again (because when you had eight legs and could cross distances at the speed Sleipnir could... you had to run many, many laps to pass enough time.) It became an action that required no thought, Sleipnir didn't really need to think anyway, just pass the time.

Anyone passing by would witness the octo-horse tiring himself out (and looking perhaps just a tiny bit crazy) but what else could one do to pass the time? There was no White God to pester right now, no apples to steal- just his legs and the ground. It wouldn't take a lot to interrupt the horse, but for the moment he was oblivious to his surroundings and/or if he had any spectators.

With no pressing place to be, Sigyn was free to do as she liked, and when she first saw the horse running around, she set her basket down and sat to watch for awhile. At first, occupied with watching the horse’s mane ripple as it moved, and half thinking already about what to prepare for dinner once at home, she didn’t notice much else.

She’d spent a very pleasant time out visiting and finding some tasty surprises to bring home, and now sitting in the sun and watching the endless figure eights run in front of her was pleasant, almost lazy. She couldn’t say what had made her pay a little more attention after a few minutes had passed, but realization came all at once and Sigyn sat up a little straighter, taking a better look. She was far enough away that it was hard to see, but….there was no mistaking it.

That was Odin’s horse.

Whatever Sigyn might have heard about that particular horse was difficult to say, and if she had ever asked her husband about it……well, she never said.

Gathering up her basket, Sigyn got up and started walking closer. She was amused by how exact the pattern was that he made, by how involved he seemed in what he was doing. Why he was doing it was a mystery, and she didn’t quite think she would find the answer…..but a closer look would be nice. She was curious, for whatever her reasons, and Sigyn had a way of looking into what piqued her interest without incurring much consequence.

Her steps were light, and she stopped far enough back that there was no chance she would be in the horse’s way. She watched quietly, a smile on her face, for a only a few moments more before doing all she could think of though without expecting a response….she called out a greeting.

Sleipnir was very involved in the eight-shaped pattern, but a good horse he was- and a good horse paid attention- so when the greeting came he automatically slowed his steps till he was standing looking for the source.

The woman he spotted was a familiar face (perhaps less familiar than some of the others, certainly nothing was more familiar than the All-Father's piercing one-eye. Flicking up his ears, Sleipnir trotted off towards her for a greeting- why not? There was a self-assured manner to his movements, here was a steed who was certain and unafraid.

Here was a horse with a tad too much ego.

Kicking up a little bit of dust (he slowed down when he realized that the next step might get Sigyn dusty) he neighed in greeting, head bobbing. Shamelessly he sniffed in her direction, trying to determine if there was anything edible in that basket.

He was quite the sight, coming towards her, and Sigyn admired him as he stood in front of her. Turning ever so slightly, she kept her basket just out of reach and behind her so he would have to come even closer to get near it. There was plenty in there to keep his interest if he got to it, but at the moment Sigyn was having her fun in not giving it up. He seemed friendly enough, and she wanted at least a few moments to satisfy some of her curiosity. Holding out her hand to see if he would let her touch him, Sigyn decided he would get something nice out of her basket whether he would or not. He deserved it for coming up to her in the first place.

“Aren’t you a handsome one.” He didn’t look as though he had never heard such a compliment before, but Sigyn was sincere, and she didn’t think she quite believed in a conceited horse. He was a lovely sight, and so fast….and friendly. Inquisitive. She saw no harm in letting him know.

Oh and closer he got, Sleipnir was not shy (but admittedly hearing the words was pleasing, and were he able to- he would have smiled) he lowered his head, brushing his muzzle against her hair in a welcoming 'hello'. Nope, certainly this horse had been spoiled, and for a moment the basket was forgotten in favor of paying Sigyn attention.

One hoof rose, pawing the ground- he sniffed her hair curiously- then moved on to nibbling lightly. It only lasted for a moment or two because there was only so much friendliness Sleipnir would display. For all the eight-legged horse knew, his attentions were not welcome at all.

Though her familiarity was not lost on him, Sleipnir could not quite place her- but hey, she was nice and had something in that basket. Right! The basket!

Extending his neck, Sleipnir made a clear decent towards the inside of the basket, attempting to rummage and possibly pluck some tasty snack out.

There was no protest at his attentions…in fact, Sigyn laughed when he nibbled at her hair. She placed a hand lightly against his neck and marvelled at how warm and soft he was. She gave him an experimental stroke along his neck to see how he liked being petted, and let him get his nose into the basket. It was only lightly covered by a cloth, she doubted it would prove an obstacle for him.

She was enjoying seeing him this close, and watching him nose around her basket was cute. It was a sentiment she’d likely keep to herself, considering just who this horse was and who he belonged to - but she thought it, just the same.

Oh Sleipnir was a petting-hoarder-animal, he loved it and it was clear in the way he stood still- leaving his neck wide open for good scratches while his nose dug around in the basket. No, he had no shame (Of course being Odin's horse, would it have made sense if he had?).

Once an apple was found (victory!), Sleipnir grabbed it with his teeth, moving to chew it down as fast as possible before going back to looking what else he could get from that bag.

Currently, Sigyn was his favorite person in all of Asgard- a second apple was stolen and then he pulled his nose out to nudge her side in a show of horse-like-affection. It was only polite to say thank you.

While he nosed around in her basket, Sigyn watched him with a mixture of pleasure and inquisitiveness. He was interesting for several reasons, and while there was nothing to really be gained by studying him or being friendly……no one could say it was time wasted. There was never any assurance of which moments would be looked back on with satisfaction or regret, and which would be forgotten entirely.

Sometimes the most unexpected things could come from the most innocuous events.

She certainly didn’t mind the loss of a couple of apples, and when he nudged her in what seemed like a friendly enough fashion, she was smiling again.

“You’re very welcome. I hope you enjoyed them. I thought they were very good, when I found them. I picked them to share.” Sharing with a horse had not been in her mind, but she had plenty to spare.
