Who: Athena, Michael
What: Sometimes old enemies make the best friends.
When: Shortly after Iris leaves to deliver her messages
Where: Athena's new home in California
Warnings: Violence.
She'd seen Ares' journal before Iris came to speak with her, and made the connection more quickly than she'd liked. Seen him apparently talk to nothing, and then Caerus' response. Seen his conversation with Phobos, that something had broken inside him and --
Ares, her brother whom she loved and hated -- had made her an orphan.
And for a split moment in time, Athena lost hold of the bonds she had so carefully placed about her power, lost her reason to rage and screamed to the high heavens. It was a flicker of power, and she had it back under control faster than lightning -- but it was ancient and strong and the release had felt so good--
--but she had to be responsible, she had to think -- and gesturing to Iris to wait, she paced and then began dictating messages in rapid fire. When Iris left to carry out her charge, the walls of her home felt as if they were caving in on her. So Athena tore them down with her bare hands.
Not even the destruction of her city, Bia's defection -- not even Medusa, nothing in the history of her experience could match the depth of this betrayal. Her heart was frozen within her, a painful chunk of ice and her arms trembled as she smashed holes in the walls and tore out chunks of plaster.
The home that she had found for herself on the mountain was a beautiful one. The glass made such an excellent sound when it was smashed. The cherry and mahogany splintered beautifully. And still, Athena found no comfort, no succor for her rage. Zeus would be back. Of course he would be back. Even Pallas had returned.
All the same, Athena wanted to find Ares and imprison him within the smallest jar that could contain him, and bind it with everlasting chains, and cast it into the bottom of the ocean.
When she realized that she was close to razing her home to the ground, Athena stepped outside of its shuddering frame and cast her gaze about the mountain. There were trees she could tear down.
