My, oh my, will that week ever end.
WHO: Neville and Harry
WHEN: Friday afternoon Sept.12th
WHERE: Ministry to Magic, Auror Department.
WHAT: A day of work.
RATING: No idea.
STATUS: ongoing.

Neville was just tired. Maybe it had something to do with the lunch he'd had, but seriously it had been such a draining week that he doubted a sandwich had been the cause for his sudden fatigue. "Ugh.." He groaned, wiping his face with his hands before picking a new file from the pile. Frigging paperwork..

Harry also had a pile of paperwork he was almost done with, and was going through it at a desk adjacent to Neville's. Proudfoot had declared Harry fit for duty, but not the field until Monday. His focus was still all over the place, and the paperwork wasn't helping. The only bright side was his weekend looked free, and he could take Teddy to get a new broom the way he'd promised weeks ago.

Looking over at Neville, Harry sighed. "Why do they always need things in triplicate? And why can't we use a duplicating spell?" These were the questions that plagued the entire Auror department. "I'm almost done here, if you need help with any of that, Nev. Need something to keep busy."

Neville chuckled. "It's probably just to make sure we're telling the truth on there. You know, it's hard to re-write a lie three times the exact same way and all that." He told his mate with a smile. "I think I'll bring some home though. I don't fancy sitting here all evening."

Harry signed the last paper in his stack, and then pushed it aside with a sigh of relief. He'd have to file them still, but at least the hard work was done. He supposed this desk duty was a good reminder why he preferred field work, despite the dangers and inconveniences.

"That's a good idea. Want to grab something to eat before heading out?"

"Don't you know the ways to my heart, Potter." He joked, chuckling as he opened the file, then closed it. "Yeah, food. Then I'll take these home and end my bloody week so I can at least have tomorrow off." He waved his wand to secure the documents magically and put them in his briefcase, which was magically enhanced to get back to the office, should something happen to Neville.

Yeah, he was a little paranoid about this, mostly because he was known to be forgetful anyway.

"You've found me out, Longbottom. I've just been biding my time for when you're inundated with paperwork to offer food and have you falling madly in love with me." He laughed, and waited while Neville packed up. He wasn't taking any paperwork home with him, though he might regret it tomorrow.

When Neville was done, he led the way to the lift. "How about that new pizza place down the block from here? I don't think I feel up to Finnigan's or the Leaky tonight." Something about the idea of being completely anonymous in the Muggle world appealed to him, and he hoped Neville wouldn't mind. Plus, no place in Monument or Diagon Alley had a good pizza.

"Pizza it is. I still can't believe how good that stuff." Besides, he didn't feel like pub food much, if at all. He was hungry and wanted something hot and good. He enjoyed these moments he could grab with his mates, here and there. After everything they all went through, they were his family.

"I never got it when I was growing up, so I think I'm making up for lost time now," he said, grinning. The Dursleys had never let him have pizza on the rare occasions they ordered it. Dudley had gotten a large all for himself, but there was never any left for Harry.

Harry pressed the button for the Atrium, and the lift moved quickly upwards. "Have any plans for the weekend, Nev?"

"Not really no." Neville said, shaking his head. Well except for visiting his parents, which Harry already knew. It wasn't even a secret among his friends that Neville was rarely available on Sundays, they were family times. "Gran keeps trying to set me up on Sunday teas and I know she means well but sometimes I wonder if maybe I should bring a fake girlfriend with me."

Harry gave Neville a look of commiseration, because as much as he complained about Andromeda and worried about Molly, Neville's Gran was fifteen times scarier. "She'd probably have the wedding planned before you left, so I don't know as I'd risk it."

He remembered Ginny's attempted at match-making herself, and added, "Or if you have to, invite someone you know you like. Like Luna. Then you wouldn't have to pretend to be having a good time." He still wasn't sure how he felt about setting up their friends, but he'd promised Ginny he'd find a way to try. This was him, finding a way.

They arrived at the restaurant and were seated quickly, but the place was busy so it looked to be awhile before a waiter made their way over.

Neville gave Harry's idea a good thought, narrowing his eyes. "When the Bloody Hell did you get so smart?" He asked teasingly. He couldn't believe he hadn't thought of it earlier. "I'll try to invite her." He hoped there was still time for him to do so, his Gran disliked last minutes changes so he might as well wait for the next week.

"It's only half planned. She remembered the fights with Mum so she probably left a few things for my future bride to make decisions on." He rolled his eyes. "I don't want to get married."

"Living with Hermione. I think the smartness is catching," he said, grinning. "And it might be good for her, a little distraction from everything going on with her father." He'd have to owl her this week, check up on things. He didn't know what it was like taking care of an ill parent, but he could offer support.

Harry could only imagine what the relationship between Neville's mother and grandmother had been. From all accounts, Alice Longbottom had been equally as strong-willed as Mrs. Longbottom. "Ever, or right now?" Harry was honestly curious. He wanted to get married, but it was a someday sort of deal--so far down the road he hadn't even thought what it would be like. He certainly didn't have any picture of who he'd marry.

Neville chuckled. "Ah well, maybe I should move out and find a roommate too. Gran will start to rub off on me and next thing you'll know I'll be the one setting up tea parties." He said, laughing and shaking his head.

"I'm thinking ever, but I'm pretty sure that as soon as the pressure will be gone that it'll come back to me." He'd always wanted a family, but on his own time. "Or maybe I'll have kids with a girlfriend without marrying her, just to spite her."

Harry laughed along with Neville, trying to imagine Neville throwing tea parties. It was a hilarious image. "There's always room for you at Casa Potter-Granger-Weasley, if you need some space from your good old Gran." He knew Ron and Hermione wouldn't mind the offer extended.

"I know what you mean. Dating is hard." He thought of Roger, fleetingly, then tore his mind away from his ill-conceived crush on a friend. "Not sure it's a good idea to do things just to spite someone, but I'll admit the mental image of her face if you told her that news is kind of amusing."

He smiled at Harry and bit his lower lip. Could he really do that to his Gran though? Move out and leave her all alone? Well, not completely all alone, there were a few Elves still, but it wasn't the same. "I'll talk to her about it, but I wouldn't want to impose though." These three were pretty close and he really didn't want to feel like a 3rd wheel even though he'd technically be the 4th. "And I have a dog, though. He's very sweet and calm, but, yeah.."

"Of course it's not a good idea." Neville admitted with a sigh.

"You wouldn't be imposing. None of us like to be alone anyway, another roommate would just be a bonus." He was fairly certain Hermione and Ron would agree, especially since it was Neville. "As long as he doesn't mind cats, I think that'd be fine. Crookshanks will keep him in line anyhow." It was well known that Crookshanks was the one in charge.

The waitress came over and got their order, and Harry went ahead and ordered a beer to go along with the pizza. Pizza and beer were supposed to go hand in hand, or so he'd heard from various sources over the years. "You'll figure something out Nev."

Neville giggled. "Yeah, Crookshanks is the boss. I think Donny would understand that quite quickly. He's a smart cookie. And Gran doesn't like dogs much, though she seems to tolerate him." She found them to be too high maintenance, but Neville didn't see where the grievance was since Shoom was usually the one taking care of Donny.

"Yeah, I always do, don't I?" He said with a chuckle.
