RP: Celebratory drink testing
Who: Charlie, Dominic, Genie
What: Finishing the club up and testing some drinks out for Pride next month
Where: Wingbeat
When: Wednesday 10th June
Rating: NSFW - Swearing

Having gone through and checked all of the work Dominic had now finished Charlie had invited him up to the office to finish up the paperwork and sort their arrangements for payment. Now all that was done too and he offered Dominic his hand. "Well, I think that's us finished up apart from the final bills, and I'll pay them up the week they arrive. Well, on my paperwork Wednesday."

He smiled broadly at Dominic as he stood. "And now that I technically no longer employ you, how do you feel about getting potentially very drunk on a Wednesday afternoon by helping me try out cocktails ready for Pride next month?" He stretched as he stood working out the slight pull in his arm caused by the no longer tiny ball of fuzz that was Echo, his cat, sleeping on his arm almost all night. "No idea what's coming, I asked Genie to come up with stuff a couple of weeks ago, she likes playing with combinations."

The work at Wingbeat had turned into one of Dominic's longer-lasting projects - not counting Hogwarts or Finnigan's, it might even have been the longest. He was proud of the work he'd done, but he was also beyond ready to move on. He didn't have the temperament to work on one thing for weeks and weeks without getting a little bored, no matter how exciting the project seemed at first glance. Though, he'd admit that having Charlie round had been a pretty compelling reason to keep turning up. Not that he'd been able to do anything about Charlie and his oh-so-distracting arm muscles while he'd been working for the man...

Dominic quirked an eyebrow as Charlie unknowingly echoed his thought, or part of his thought. "As a Proud - in both senses of the word - Irishman, that sounds like an offer I couldn't possibly refuse," he answered, smiling. "They'd strip me of my rainbow shamrock." Not that Dominic was particularly active in the LGBT community - he felt no need to talk about his sexuality and though he thought gay marriage ought to be available he didn't spend time campaigning for it. "Lead the way."

Quickly turning and bending to deposit the few stray parchments from his desk into the floor safe which he'd opened before he shut the door again which automatically engaged the locks and wards after a deft twist of his wrist. "Downstairs bar I believe," he said, leading Dominic out of the office and then locking and warding it behind them. He had no plans to come back upstairs that afternoon and would close up the club behind them when they all left.

"Well, we wouldn't want to do that, and an extra hand to try everything out can't be a bad thing," he said as they crossed the upper floor towards the doors to the stairs.

"Plus I've got a really fucked sense of how strong things are after some of the locals in Romania got me drinking Țuică. It's pretty hard to get here though so mostly I drink beer or some sort of whiskey." He carefully stood on the access platform and said the word which set it moving sedately down the stairs, hand hovering over the handrail at his side. He'd probably dispense with that himself after a few weeks, but it would make the customers more comfortable. Anything that made him not feel like he was taking up people's time and space when he was climbing the stairs in his own club was a bonus, especially when it also had the potential to help others.

Dominic didn't try to hide the way his gaze lingered as Charlie bent over. If he got caught looking, well, Charlie wasn't his boss anymore and Dominic was allowed to appreciate an attractive man. "We should get you some poitín," Dominic said, grinning. "I've no idea how it compares to Țuică -" he tried to pronounce the unfamiliar word the same way Charlie had, though he probably mangled it "- but it's got to be easier to get, especially if you've got friends across the water."

When they reached the platform, Dominic stayed a step behind Charlie, letting him try it out himself. He'd shown him how it worked, of course, and they'd tested it together but Dominic wanted to make it clear that it would work even without his presence. He'd worked hard to make sure the platform would work in different noise levels, and had even done his best to ensure it adapted to different accents. It wasn't 100% foolproof, but he could still make adjustments for a while - at least until Charlie made any more significant changes to the club which would overlay Dominic's magic. Once Charlie was safely on the ground floor, Dominic walked down the stairs to meet him. "Landing okay?"

Charlie had, in somewhat typical fashion, completely missed Dominic's lingering gaze, even though he'd turned in time to see it. "Țuică is essentially plum brandy, although on the fucking lethal end, and it's often home-brewed so quality varies. So, not that different from the origins of poitín if I'm understanding right." He shrugged. He did have contacts in Romania who could likely get him a supply of Țuică, the legally made kind even, but he'd been hesitant to tap into that given the likely limited appeal. Although perhaps he could reach out and get a bottle for himself for occasional use, special or not.

As with all of the later testing they'd done on the platform it performed perfectly smoothly and he smiled widely when Dominic joined him. "Nice and smooth," he reported. "And even if none of the punters use it it'll make me feel like less of an awkward twat when I've got to get up and down on busy nights." There were a few methods for climbing stairs which worked with his prosthesis, but he favoured one which meant he needed a bit of space around him to swing his leg, which wasn't always easy when it was busy.

"C'mon, let's go see what Genie's come up with," he said, stepping through the double sets of doors and into the main downstairs room, holding the doors for Dominic.

Genie was down at the bar, playing with the alcohol. It had definitely been a fun set of experiments which her packmates had definitely (mostly) enjoyed. While it was very difficult for weres to become drunk, she'd almost succeeded for a few minutes at least at getting them quite on a few times. Expensive, but worth it. Plus it was so much like potions that it came to her naturally, trying new combinations.

She also had some of the magical liquors to play with as well. That made things interesting, for certain. There her potions work also came in handy. The sprinkling of a few certain thigns with different liquors could cause some very... interesting reactions. She wondered how many people had honestly played with it before. Fairy dust, though benign when ingested, caused a few cool effects she wanted to play with more.

She smiled broadly as the two men came in. She liked Charlie; he was a good boss and a good enough sport when she fell back to harmless flirting, though she tried not to, knowing he didn't much care for it. "Hallo, boys, have fun?"

"Plum brandy sounds so much nicer than 'potato spirit'," Dominic groused. "No wonder we stick to Gaelic." But he nodded, confirming that Charlie's understanding was broadly accurate. "My dad's family brew it sometimes. Mum's family won't touch it." It was one of many small tensions between the two sides which made it unsurprising that they hadn't really integrated, even all these years after the marriage. He gave Charlie a grin that was edging on flirtatious. "You can guess which side of the debate I'm shouting for."

He passed closer to Charlie than was strictly necessary as he followed him through the door. "Hey," he greeted Genie. They'd only met once (that he could remember) but that was enough to dispense with formality, as far as Dominic was concerned. "We were just debating the merits of home-brewed spirits." He pulled a chair up to the bar and sat down, hooking a second stool with his foot and drawing it close to his own before patting it and looking up at Charlie. "But I can switch gears. Cocktails are probably tastier than the stuff brewed in my cousin's shed."

Charlie threw his head back and laughed at both Dominic's tone and his words. "Yeah, there are a few things like that in plenty of languages, although of course I'm fucked if I can think of any off the top of my head right now," he said. If they were dropping the professional tone of their earlier interactions his swearing was definitely going to increase. He rarely managed to cut it out entirely, but he tried to be somewhat restrained in a professional context.

"Dominic - Genie, Genie - Dominic," Charlie said carelessly. From the greeting he thought they'd probably met before, but a second introduction couldn't hurt. He climbed carefully onto the high stool, the cropped trousers he'd switched to in light of the warmer weather sliding up to reveal more of his prosthetic. Today it was shifting slowly through its usual random selection of colours. "I hope they taste better, because I've had mis-brewed swill that tastes like stain-removing potion smells!" he wrinkled up his face in an expressive picture of disgust. He flashed Genie a grin that clearly said he thought her cocktails were going to be far better than that.

He leaned on arm on the bar, itching absently at his nose with the other hand. "So then, what have you got for us, and just how much of a test is setting the wards going to be by the time I leave?" he asked. "Because I am done with the serious work for the day, and Dominic's contract is up so this isn't his workplace anymore..." he trailed off, gesturing absently to the area now surrounded by both a low barrier and sound dampening spells.

"Nothin' wrong with a good home brew, but there's some awful bad ones out there too," Genie said. She liked Dominic, what she knew of him, anyways. He seemed like a real nice guy. She grinned at them as they sat down. "Well, I have a selection of things like you asked, Bossman," she said, winking at them both. "But I can't make promises that you'll be able to walk straight if you try everything I've been playing with. Hell, I made my mates all sorts of tipsy the other day."

"But! Your first request was for a rainbow drink, and I think I've finally found something that will work," she told him. From where she'd had them hidden behind the bar, she pulled out two drinks with rainbow edged around the glass rims as well.

Dominic eyed up the line of Charlie's neck as he laughed, the very deliberately stopped. Yes, Charlie was hot but Dominic was starting to feel like a perv. There were other hot guys and Dominic was well aware that at least a little of his current fixation on Charlie was because he'd been firmly filed in the 'don't look, don't touch' category while they'd been working together.

"We've met," he said, smiling at Genie and leaning back so she and Charlie could still see each other. "Took her for a drive not too long ago." Speaking of which, the three of them had talked about some kind of adventure and Dominic made a mental note to bring it up - if he didn't get drunk first. "Walking straight is highly overrated," he joked, giving an exaggerated wink. "This is Pride we're talking about, after all."

He raised an impressed eyebrow as Genie revealed her drink. "That's some neat layering," he complimented. "It took Seamus months to get his hand that steady. Or did you use magic?" He took one of the glasses, turning it carefully in his hand so as not to disturb the contents. "Could also work as a traffic lights cocktail... but I guess wizards don't have traffic light parties. Or traffic lights."

"Oh, cool, I wasn't sure," he said as he slid his false foot up so his heel was resting on the bar of the stool. If he wasn't planning on drinking quite a lot he might have stuck his foot over the bar, but frankly that plus alcohol had a distinct possibility of him falling on his face. "Didn't know you had a car though. They can be handy when you're not in the city." Not that Charlie could drive any longer. He'd only done it occasionally before he lost his leg and now he was sure he'd need adaptations it wasn't worth making for how often he'd use a car.

"Maybe so, but setting the wards isn't," Charlie insisted, amused. Thankfully Charlie had both a decent tolerance for alcohol and a long record of setting the wards faultlessly even when tired. "Although if I walk too wonky I'm gonna fall on my arse!"

Charlie tipped his head to examine the drink Genie produced. "Oh, nicely done. I like the... well, I'm not sure if that's sugar or salt, but the rim looks good too." He leaned over and attached his lips to the provided straw and took a sip, frowning slightly at the grenadine in the bottom. Drinking steadily he then drained the rest of the glass and then grabbed it and licked a little of the rainbow dusting from the rim. "Well, shit, that's got more of a kick than the first sip would suggest," he said blinking slightly.

Genie's eyes flicked slowly between the two men and she felt amused. She had gotten no where with Charlie, not that she'd tried hard once he'd been up front about things, plus his being her boss, but she had to wonder how things would go here if Dominic was going to flirt. "Yeah, he has a nice ride. Not as sweet as my friend's motorcycle, but nice." She grinned. She'd definitely enjoyed the ride.

She snickered at Dom's joke before revealing her drinks. "Thanks. I've been tending bar for a few years, on and off," she admitted, though her youth sometimes made people squint at that knowledge (and deservedly so, not that she liked to admit it). Since she'd aged a little, though, especially around the moons, there was less squinting. "And I've a steady touch -- gotta have it with alcohol and potions. I don't use much magic in the day to day." Especially with the wand she had. She really should sink money into a new one, but she always found another more urgent use for the money when she got it. Like Wolfsbane ingredients.

Genie smirked at Charlie, justifiably proud of herself. "Tricksy as a leprechaun," she drawled, winking at them.

"I keep it in a garage just outside of London," Dominic agreed. "There's nothing like driving down little country roads, discovering village pubs, blasting the radio. That it impresses the pretty girls is just a bonus." He grinned at Genie, flashing white teeth. "Though not, apparently, as much as it would if I had a motorcycle." He could hardly blame her for that, honestly. The idea of a motorcycle definitely appealed to him.

He reached for a straw and slipped it into the drink. Refusing to be outdone, he followed Charlie's example of downing it in one. "Tricksier," he decided. "Leprechauns are like kittens if you know how to talk to them." He deliberately broadened and roughened out his Irish accent, trying to sound like an old country gentleman telling tall tales in a pub. "Good though," he said in his normal voice. "I can't tell what the hell's in it, which is apparently the mark of a successful drink."

Charlie shrugged carelessly. He'd never been one to obsess over cars or motorbikes, although he kind of liked the idea of bikes. He was fine with a broom though. And the whole pretty girls flocking didn't appeal for obvious reasons.

"He's right, it's good, and the rainbows look good too. If you think all the better bar staff can manage it," he said. He'd already decided that he'd need to put on the best bar staff for the three days of Pride and spread everyone else to the other positions. "Also, I'll need lists of everything we decide on to cost it up and make sure we have enough stuff in." If he remembered to tell her this now it'd save having to remember when he'd drunk even more. "Also, I'm pretty sure the bottom is granadine, and there's some midori or something else melony in there somewhere," he said. Best part of a year behind a bar had taught him a thing or two.

Genie smirked at him. "Oh, but there's no back seat on a motorcycle," she said, batting her eyelashes in an over the top, playful manner. "Besides, I have my friend for the bike. So I have to have one for the car." She grinned and laughed.

Genie looked very pleased at the reception her hard work had earned her. "I know a few of them can. It mostly takes a steady had and some patience. I can show them. There's a few who might not get it right off, though." She pulled out a notebook and handed it over to Charlie. "I have all my measurements of everything I tried in this. I have a few more drinks, a few layered, a few not as much. A sprinkle of fairy dust, I found, makes a harmless sparkling effect that lasts a couple of minutes."

Dominic laughed. "You make an excellent point," he agreed. "And when a girl with both brains and looks wants me to be her friend with a car, how can I refuse?" He turned his smile on Charlie, the flirtatious look only intensifying. "But you might have to share. I believe I promised Mr Weasley here I'd take him on safari." He tipped an imaginary hat to Charlie, glad that he'd remembered about the safari trip. It'd be fun to take both of them, and anyone else who wanted to come (they could fit one, maybe two, more people in the car).

He leaned forward, both to get a look at the notebook Genie passed over and as an excuse to lean closer to Charlie. "Only a few minutes?" he asked. Surely it would be cooler if it lasted until the drink was gone? "Does adding more than that affect the taste, or does it just not make any difference to the time?"

Charlie had the sense he was missing something, but it wasn't niggling enough at him for him to really examine the feeling just yet so he just smiled slightly and nodded when Dominic turned to him. "That's right, you did. You were going to show me the wonders of muggle creatures. I mean they have the not breathing fire thing which immediately makes them both far less dangerous but also a tiny bit less cool than dragons. I mean then again I fucked up and let the venomous bastard bite me but that's a totally different point. I seem to remember we stay inside your car so nothing can get at us," he said. He turned to Genie, still smiling lazily. "Hey, you should come," he said. "Well, not my place to offer, but if you've been on trips before...?"

Charlie started to read and then nudged the book closer to Dominic when he realised he was leaning in to look at it. He nodded as he saw most of the ingredients were either things they already stocked or could get without too much problem. The only issue would be judging how much to get, but there was no reason they couldn't run the cocktails for a few LGBTQ+ nights later in the year to get rid of the stock. "The sparkling sounds good," he said. "I'm expecting people to be pretty..." he trailed off, searching for the right word. He'd been to Pride events a few times over the years and they were often rather raucous. Thankfully usually in a positive way.

Genie grinned back, flirtacious and playful. She eyed Charlie and then looked back at Dominic, biting her lip lightly. "I don't have any problems sharing, handsome," she said. She did wonder if he realized Charlie was ace, but the flirtation was all in play with her, though she spoke truth -- she didn't mind sharing, and both of them were attractive. "Well, if I'm welcome I'd love to come along. I like a good trip."

"Loud, out there, sparkly?" Genie supplied the words, flittering her fingers in the air demonstratively. She'd been to pride events before, participated. They didn't do much for her. She was fine with what she was, most of the time. There was only small times when she was lonely and uncertain. But that had little to do with her sexuality and more to do with wondering how life would work out for her. "It's more about keeping the duration, since they dissolve all at the same time," she told Dominic. "Kind of like if you dumped pop rocks in something, they all crackle at the same time and dissolve."

"Significantly less cool," Dominic admitted. "Magical creatures definitely have the edge - but then, maybe muggle creatures will be new territory for you." On the whole, Dominic wasn't too bothered by missing the muggle world. He liked the magical one and had chosen to live in it full-time. He grinned at Genie. "Of course you can come. The more the merrier - at least to the extent we'll all fit in the car."

His eyes lit up when Genie explained the nature of the limitation and he leaned towards her. "In that case, I can help." The answer had come to him - as it sometimes did - in something of a flash. A complete idea, all at once. "What you want is a fairy wand. Or rather, a cocktail stick designed to look like a fairy wand and that I can charm to slow-release fairy dust over time." He glanced back to Charlie. "Assuming you're okay with more sparkly, of course."

Charlie thought for a second, ignoring Genie and Dominic's flirting, at least he thought they were flirting. Sometimes he couldn't be bothered to tune in to that sort of thing and sometimes it just flew over his head. Actually mostly it flew over his head to start with at least. "I know a few muggle animals, but mostly British stuff, and variations on farm animals," he said and shrugged. "I'm assuming the safari stuff is more exciting. Actually, no, I know it is, I've scanned a few books on muggle animals before now!" he said. "But it should be fun. I can see if any of the behaviour spotting crosses over maybe," he said. He definitely missed the dragons and that sort of work even though he was enjoying this too.

"Yup," he confirmed to Genie's description. He had a feeling that they were going to have to pull out some of the more interesting tricks to get rid of the inevitable glitter. There was a certain amount about in the club anyway, but Pride seemed to accio the stuff. He shrugged at Dominic's suggestion. "Sure, it'll dissipate and not add to the fuckton of glitter we'll be clearing up afterwards, if you can do it that's fine by me. Well, assuming nobody dumps glitter down my clothes. And fuck me never mention that to George, he'd think it was fucking hilarious!"

He tapped a finger on the bar and looked encouragingly at Genie. "So, what's next?" he asked.

"There's all sorts of cool animals in the muggle world. Though I admit I haven't gotten to see a lot of the magical ones outside of school," she said with a shrug. "But it's always interesting."

"Ooooh more sparkly!" Genie was excited at the idea. She hadn't thought of creating it into a wand, but that would work. "I think that would work, yes. We'll have to test it out, but it should be fine." This is the sort of collaboration she needed on occasion. She snorted. "I shall protect you from the glitter, Bossman, never fear!" she declared.

She took another set of glasses out of the bar and competently and quickly started to pour and layer another drink and a second one for Dom. "Here we go! Another multicolor, though not a rainbow."

His mind whirring with possibilities, Dominic was in exactly the sort of headspace to pick up more ideas - and so he did. "I wonder if I could come up with some kind of glitter-repelling charm for your clothes," he mused. "Just in case of sneak attacks." He grinned, knowing it wasn't really necessary but enjoying running over the possibility in his head. He grinned at Genie's offer of protection and rested a hand on Charlie's forearm as he said, "So between the two of us, you'll be well protected in any event." The touch lingered a little longer than it needed to, Dominic enjoying the combination of warm skin and solid muscle under his fingertips.

He pulled back to take the glass from Genie, turning it around on the table to examine the amazingly precise layering from every angle. He gave a long, low whistle. "That is amazing," he told her. "Almost too pretty to drink." Almost. Dominic lifted the glass to his lips and downed it, trying to taste the layers as they came but quickly losing track. He coughed softly after he'd finished, aware of the lingering burn of the alcohol in his throat. "You might need to ration that one."

"It's not my clothes, it's when it ends up under my clothes. Clothes are washable with vigorous charms, glitter clings to skin like it's got permanent bloody sticking charms on it!" Charlie protested. "Although fuck knows why people think I need protection," he said, it wasn't especially accusing though. "Well, apart from the fuckers who don't no for an answer, but if it's in here I just point to the sexual harassment policy and end up throwing them out," he said, rolling his eyes and shaking his head softly. He'd still not picked up on Dominic's advances and hadn't minded the hand on his arm.

Charlie watched the bottles racking up as Genie poured over the back of her spoon, his eyes widening after every new one. There wasn't much of any individual liquid, but all in one they made quite the combination. It looked amazing, but as impressive as it was he thought all of the bar staff could manage it, himself included. They all had to use the spoon to float a variety of things in relatively popular cocktails. He watched as Dominic took the shot first this time, grinning slightly and then knocking his own back. Despite the sheer number of different things in it it actually blended well together as he swallowed. He coughed too and nodded. "Yeah, it's good shit, but we don't want anyone having too many of them," he said.

"Glitter was invented by the devil for the furtherment of evil in this world," Genie said, managing it with a straight face before giggling. "Or so one of my mates claims. Which only makes the temptation to glitter bomb him even more irresistable." She grinned at Charlie. "But don't worry, Bossman, you're off limits. I'll keep you from the horrors of invasive glittery things. I do admit, they're a devil to vacuum up. You keep finding it forever."

She could see the way the wind blew here, at least with Dominic, though she enjoyed flirting with the man. It made her smile to herself. Genie went ahead and poured herself one of the drinks while the other two drank, and she toasted them with it and managed to drain hers in one long set of gulps, head tipped back and long neck bared for a moment. "Tasty," she agreed with a proud look.

"No, not too many of them, but they are wicked awesome. I think most of us could do them, too," she said.

Dominic hummed a noncommittal reply, pleasantly distracted by the mental image conjured by Charlie talking about what went on under his clothes. "Everyone needs protecting from glitter," he added when he blinked himself back into focus. "It's undiscriminating, attaches itself just as much to strapping lads like yourself as to little girls playing princess." He patted Charlie's arm again to emphasise his point. He smiled wickedly at Genie. "You know... I could probably make you a glitter bomb."

He watched Genie toss back the shot, eyes briefly distracted from his contemplation of Charlie. Apparently the alcohol was putting his thoughts on a pretty singular track today - glitter bombs aside. If he had much more, he was definitely going to lose track of the innocent conversation in favour of tracking the sexual tension that simmered through him. The fingers of his left hand toyed with the glass, rolling the base of it back and forth across the bar. "It'll definitely be popular."

"No glitter bombs in the club!" Charlie decreed, insistent and sitting up extremely straight to emphasise his point. He noticed Dominic patting his arm again and frowned for a moment, but brushed it off. "But, you know, other places it's fine," he said, slumping a bit.

Then he saw Dominic's eyes track to Genie swallowing her shot and he snorted a little to himself. Dominic was definitely flirting then.

He refocussed himself back on Genie and nodded. "Yeah, I think we'll pretty much all get it. Although I think we might have to stack the bottles in the right order just to make sure we get it right. I don't think everyone will remember it all without some prompting," he said. They could stick cheat sheets for the staff, but a little extra prompting couldn't hurt. "On the other hand if we move shit around it might piss everyone off and mean they can't find anything," he said.

Genie cackled obligingly when Dom threatened to make a glitter bomb. Oh gods but wouldn't that be a sight, especially if it were Bossman here. But she'd just promised to protect him... but that didn't mean she didn't find it funny as hell.

"Yeah, wouldn't do to screw up the order, but I can make out crib sheets easy-peasy," she said, flapping a hand. "Depends on how quick on the uptake they are and how much they want to bitch," she said honestly as she brought out more alcohol and started pouring Yet another cocktail. This one she liked herself, plus the name made her grin. "I'm sure we all want a sexy devil sometimes," she said with a smirk.

Dominic couldn't help but laugh as Charlie straightened up like someone had threatened to apply glitter then and there. "Not in the club," he said, patting Charlie's shoulder this time. It was a good shoulder. Nice and firm. "For Genie's mate." He didn't even know who she was talking about, specifically, but that didn't matter. "Could call one of the cocktails 'glitter bomb' though," he mused. "It's a good name for one of the ones with fairydust." He suspected naming the cocktails might be almost as much fun as drinking the cocktails. Almost.

He waited until Genie was finished serving up the new cocktail, then reached past the glass to have a look at the bottle she'd poured from. "Cranberry vodka?" he asked, interested. He'd never seen that before, nor tasted it, but with the popularity of cranberry-and-spirit drinks, it seemed a good idea. "Christmas gift?" Christmas cocktails weren't really a thing he'd ever thought about - but maybe he should. He abandoned the bottle to take the glass, attempting to sip delicately but actually swallowing more of the cocktail than he'd really meant. "Mmmm," he hummed appreciatively. "That goes down much too easy."

Charlie rolled his eyes and smiled at their reactions to his protest against glitter bombs. In truth he couldn't actually think of a good objection to glitter bombs in other places, even if the idea made him twitchy. He sort of feared it getting into the cover on his stump and all the little edges rubbing him something awful. But he wasn't going to say that. "Well that's okay then," he said aloud. "Actually that's not a bad idea, a glitter bomb cocktail. That I can cope with," he mused.

He nodded his acquiescence to Genie's point about crib sheets. If anyone wanted to bitch they were welcome to, he was pretty sure they were only going to run that one for Pride weekend. "That one can stay just for Pride. It's a bit of a pain in the arse for most of the time by the looks of it," he said and reached for the new drink when it appeared. He'd watched what she was pouring and the sip he took was rather more cautious than Dominic's. "Speak for yourself," he said, amused. "You know all things sex are pretty much a lost cause with me!" he said to her. "Although drinks are an exception," he pointed out. "I'm only leaving it because I want to be faintly coherent later." It really was a rather good cocktail. He took another small sip and then pushed it away, not wanting to totally impair his judgement of the later ones.

He looked over at Dominic and shrugged about the vodka. "We get plenty of samples of stuff from the suppliers, and they're usually pretty handy for cocktails. That stuff is like your vodka and cranberry all in one. No colour though, which is sort of a shame," he explained. It wasn't actually something you could use to replace the cranberry juice in drinks but it did make a good option if you wanted the flavour but not the colour.

"For pride once a year, we can handle a glitter bomb," Genie said with a grin. She agreed with Dom, naming was half the fun of a new drink, though she wasn't as good at that part of the creation process as the combining alcohol part of the process.

"True, though I think this thing sex might get the green light," she teased, winking at him. She chuckled warmly. "Awww, coherant thought is highly overrated!" she declared.

"There's all sorts of flavours but I do like me some cranberry," she admitted to Dom. "We can always add colour if needed though, I think, though at that point it's just easier to use the actual cranberry juice."

"A lost cause?" Dominic asked, misunderstanding totally - his brain was only functioning at about 60% of its usual rate, after all. "You?" He gestured to Charlie, looking between him and Genie in some confusion that both of them seemed to just except this as fact. He knew confidence didn't always map exactly to appearance, but surely Charlie couldn't think he was a lost cause? He seemed plenty confident in himself in other areas. "I can't imagine you have trouble finding people who're interested - even if your standards are exceptionally high." It just didn't make sense, and the thought that Charlie might not be looking didn't, for the moment, enter his head. Nor did it occur to him that Charlie might not want to talk about his sex life with and in front of his employee.

Dominic put his cocktail down, not wanting to finish it until he felt more clear-headed. He didn't like the feeling of being confused or like he was missing something. It was one of the stereotypical Ravenclaw traits he actually did share. Unsolved mysteries nagged at him relentlessly for far longer than was really warranted. "I know muggles do vodka in all sorts of flavours," he agreed, his mind not totally on what he was saying. "Vanilla is nice, cherry is horrible - too fake. I guess I'm still not really used to the fact that there's a wizarding nightclub industry too. Until you opened this place, I'd only been to muggle clubs."

"Coherent thought is very important when you're the one setting the wards!" he pointed out to Genie and turned to Dominic, having realised, rather too late, that he had definitely been flirting. He chuckled and shook his head. "If I was interested I'm pretty sure I'd find people, but I'm asexual, so..." he trailed off, spreading his hands in a shrug. "This isn't news to Genie, I tell all the staff pretty much as soon as they're hired." He frowned slightly and cleared his throat. "So, yeah, sex things are lost on me. Well, I understand a fair few, but don't really care on a personal level. Unless they're drinkable," he said, nodding to Genie and grabbing his drink back to have another sip.

Charlie considered the drink. "I think I like the deceptively colourless thing it's got going on," he said. "And yeah, juice is easier than that stuff." He shrugged. "We mostly use the same booze suppliers the pubs do, they just like to give us the weirder stuff that pubs probably won't sell. And I'll be honest I'm pretty sure they get some of the stuff from muggle suppliers themselves," he said. He'd been to a number of muggle bars and clubs in his time and was fairly sure he'd seen some of the same names there. "It's good for muggleborn people who want something they've heard their parents drink too."

Genie grinned at him. She'd appreciated that he was up front about things, otherwise she sometimes took continued refusal when someone wasn't taken with hurt feelings. However, it freed her up to flirt in a more friendly way and to make friends with him, hopefully, at least, without other things in the way.

"Yeah. I've served in Muggle places up til now, really. So I can go both ways." She smirked to herself. "But I'm enjoying learning and experimenting with things here that I haven't gotten to do before." especially when things were too expensive.

"Ah." Dominic couldn't help being disappointed. He wasn't particularly proud of it, and he'd shake it off before too long but he'd had something of a crush on Charlie for a few weeks now, while he'd been working there, and this news was a little like crashing into a brick wall he hadn't known was there. "Right, gotcha," he added, hoping he could at least cover the disappointment. He didn't want to make Charlie feel awkward, or like Dominic wasn't understanding of different sexualities. It was just... unfortunate. If he'd found out up front it probably would have been easier to handle. "Sorry, I thought you were just being too self-deprecating, or something."

He met Charlie's eyes briefly before looking away, focusing back on his cocktail and knocking the rest of it back in a way he hoped looked more casual than it felt. "I like learning about the new stuff - or the magical stuff," he said. "Next time I come in I should get you to show me some wizarding-only spirits, Genie."

"No, I, er, I get offers. Don't always notice them, but I do. It's part of why our sexual harassment policy is so strict," he said. He refused to apologise for his sexuality these days, although there had been a time when he had done so. "I know what it's like for people to get persistent and realised how much worse it could have been if I wasn't, well, me." It had only really been the one time, but that had been more than enough for Charlie to put himself in the shoes of his sister, or someone even less capable and keep an eye out for persistent dickheads (not that they were always men).

"And no apologies necessary," he added after a few seconds. "I don't exactly advertise it, but it's not a secret. Plus I'm aware people don't expect it."

He shrugged and turned to Genie, hoping that she might manage to pull them out of this conversational ring of fire. "So, any more drinks that people think are designed to make the staff blush and do a much better job on the punters?" he asked with forced cheer. Truth be told there were a few drinks he'd heard of before that would make him blush, but it was only obvious because tended towards pale and freckled rather than actually brown even when he'd seen too much sun.
