There was a lot that Charlie could forgive Percy for, considering the situation. After all, even if Charlie hadn't known Percy was still in love with Penny, that didn't change the fact that Charlie had evidently slept with the one that got away. Charlie felt bad about that. He really hadn't meant to hurt his brother like this, and every time he tried to repair things with Percy, it seemed like everything got worse. Charlie felt so powerless and frustrated, and he was sick of trying to be honest and genuine with Percy, and have Percy throw it back at him, refuse to give an inch, and stoke his anger. If Percy wouldn't forgive him, so be it, but why did his response to Charlie trying to get him to leave Penny alone end up with Percy saying he hated her even more? Charlie hadn't chosen her over his own brother, but Percy just kept pushing, and Charlie wasn't about to let him use Penny as his punching bag.
It was all such a mess. But what was done was done, and now... maybe it was just selfish, but Percy didn't own Penny and Charlie was, well. Mad about her. Falling for her, maybe. He wasn't really sure, and it seemed that with all this drama that had waylaid them, it was too early to tell. It had been a busier few weeks than Charlie had seen in a long time, if ever, and he felt like his family was falling apart, and there was so much going on. That sometimes got in the way of he and Penny, but still. Charlie was getting through it because he could come back to her, to Penny, to unwind after a long day.
Being with her was like nothing he'd ever felt before. He was so furious at his hurting brother for jeopardizing it, and he knew he shouldn't be, but he couldn't help it. But for all that he was feeling, he was more concerned about Penny. He knew Percy was being hard on her. So as soon as he could get enough of his work done that he could justify leaving the Beastly Consulting office (or rather, as soon as he accepted that he was worried enough about Penny and distracted enough by his journal conversation with Percy that he couldn't think about work anymore), Charlie headed to her flat.
Comfortable enough with coming to her flat by this point, Charlie rapped on the door twice as he opened it and let himself in as he called out, "Hey, it's just me."
He took a breath and closed the door behind him as he saw her sitting on her living room floor, looking down. He felt his heart tug, and he moved towards her. Even from a distance, he could tell she was sad, and instantly, Charlie wanted more than anything to make it okay for her. As soon as he got close enough, he saw that she was surrounded by photos. He was careful not to step on any of them as he approached her and sat down.
"You all right, love?" Charlie said softly, leaning in and pressing a kiss to her temple, nuzzling in close.
