Summary: Well, I couldn't quite bring myself to write something quite as happy-go-lucky as this song, which I was never a huge fan of, but I looked at the lyrics and decided that I could make it a bit more serious if I just focused on the "getting away from others" aspect. I also was somewhat inspired by another song, Damien Rice's "The Professor and La Fille Dance," from which the title comes. The characters are Daniel Craig, Eva Green, and Mads Mikkelsen, all actors in the film Casino Royale, along with a sort of cameo by Orlando Bloom as I needed a young pretty boy :-D Ages adjusted as needed.

Notes: I started writing this for telesilla's Smack A 'Lantean On the Ass Weekend. Then it started getting long, and I decided I liked it better for my prompt than I did the other fic I'd been working on. =) Actually, I found it pretty difficult to write something that fit this song. I started four different fics before this, but they didn't work out, and one would have been pages and pages long to do it any justice. So, I was thinking about how John and Rodney are sort of drifting and alone, until they find one another, a coming home, if you will. It might not be an obvious fit, but turn your head and squint a bit. ;)

Summary: Viggo is an archaeologist on the hunt for a valuable and powerful artifact in Egypt. But others are after the same thing and now it has become a deadly race.
Notes: The song I was given inspired me to write something in the vein of Indiana Jones. This is therefore obviously a very AU story. It's also funny, cheesy, and pure 1980s. Thanks to Jack for the beta. 4,200 words.

Welcome to ficrocksthe80s, a pan-fandom fic-writing challenge!

The very very basic gist of this challenge is this:

1. You sign up to write a fic.
2. We send you a song from the '80s. (Not just any random song, mind you; these are the hits that ROCKED THE '80s! You will recognize it!)
3. You write something inspired by that song (no, it doesn't have to be songfic, the lyrics don't have to be featured, and your characters don't have to exist in the same world that created the song).
4. You post your fic.
5. We all cheer for the '80s music nostalgia!

Signups will go live on September 10 and will close down September 16.

Posting starts on October 31.

A more complete set of rules will follow in the next day or two, but minimum word count will be 1000, no max, and any fandom (including RPS) is welcome -- though we'll ask you to have appropriate disclaimers on your fic.
