Original fic "There's A Dragon In My Soup Bowl" (G)
This is something I wrote for Emily when she was home sick with a cold. It's silly, but if you have young children, they might enjoy it. Mine did!
There's A Dragon In My Soup Bowl
I sat down to eat my lunch today
just as the clock was striking noon.
Everything was in its place --
until I picked up my spoon.
I don't know how I didn't notice;
I don't know how I didn't see
that enormous scaly dragon head
right where my chicken soup should be.
He glared at me with great green eyes;
his scales flashed bright as flame.
He was so fierce and frightening
that I knew he wasn't tame.
There's a dragon in my soup bowl
and I don't know what to do --
because he's looking pretty hungry
and pretty scary too!
I offered him some milk
and I offered him some bread,
but the dragon only licked his lips
as he slowly shook his head.
"No milk, no bread," the dragon growled.
"Only chicken soup will do!
But yours was barely half a mouthful,
and I ate the crackers too."
I said I'd make him a sandwich
with some honey or some ham,
or perhaps some nice fruit salad,
fried eggs, or toast with jam.
The dragon roared and rolled his eyes
while smoke poured from his snout.
"I don't want fruit or ham or toast
or eggs or even trout!
I don't want cereal with milk
or honey (though it's sweet)!
More chicken soup is all I want
and that is what I'll eat!"
"You're awfully rude," I said to him
and I felt myself grow tough.
"You ate my soup and crackers too;
I think you've had enough!"
Yes, there's a dragon in my soup bowl
but I know what I can do,
because I'm feeling pretty hungry --
hungry, say, for dragon stew.
"I want my</> lunch," I said to him
as I picked up my cup
and drank my milk and grabbed my spoon...
and ate that dragon up!
