Everyone has something that they believe in that isn't based in reason or knowledge. Something that people blindly accept, a belief or notion that might soothe nerves.
Perhaps Nida has a small charm from a fisherman from FH that helps concentration during travel into areas of strong currents? Does Squall just not believe at all? Does Seifer polish Hyperion until it's dull shine shows the green of his eyes? Perhaps someone has a mantra they speak against evil?
