Resting his head on his foreleg, Nanaki tracked the movement of the figure outside. The thick glass blurred the human's features, but the containment tube was not airtight; Hojo's scent was sharp in the air, antiseptic and Mako and other people's fear, making Nanaki's mane bristle.

Like most humans, Hojo was susceptible to illusions - it was easy to convince him Nanaki was just another subsentient animal. The game was tiresome and demeaning, but it kept the few remaining members of his race safe. But that wasn't why Nanaki pretended.

He was, quite simply, scared to death of the man.

“Open your mouth,” Hojo leered.

Reno stared in horror, unable to form words. He never expected to be on his knees, looking up at Hojo. “Huh?”

“I said, ‘Open your mouth.’ You don’t bite, do you?”

Hojo grabbed Reno’s neck and forced open his mouth. He ignored the squirming runt, aware that he was cutting off oxygen. But, at least it got his mouth open.

When Hojo was done he threw Reno to the ground. “Pathetic creature. Stay away from my lab. I don’t want your germs infecting my subjects.”

For once, Reno was glad he had a head cold.

Tseng sat patiently in the chopper, half-turned to the rear, idly watching their cargo squirm on the floor as Reno returned, bounding in with an energized whoop. "Welcome back. What happened on the platform?"

Reno patted his bosses shoulder and grinned as he slid into place, taking up the controls. "Tussle with those friends of hers, more fun than I've had in a while, boss. They're pushing buttons now, or something. Something heroic like that."

"Pointless," Tseng nodded upward at the wall of concrete and cables, "lets go and have a look."

Aerith couldn't find the words to protest.

Title: Mother’s Day

He stands before the pod, eyes fixed on its contents. His lean frame shudders as though earthquakes echo every heartbeat. He does not blink.

 

The words he had planned for this joyous moment hang in his throat; his tongue cleaves to the roof of his mouth as he struggles not to vomit.

 

This is not what he expected.

 

It is exactly what he expected.

 

Genesis was right: he, Sephiroth, son of a monster, was the greatest monster of all.

 

His features relax in a serene smile. He raises steady hands as the words tumble from his lips. “I’m here, Mother.”

Reno looked askance at his partner when Rude ordered some "girly" drink.

"Pictured you as the type who'd go for something harder, yo."

Rude just smiled.

He managed not to wince at the taste, finishing it in a few long sips, barely registering the cloying sweetness, then plucked the garnish out and popped the cherry in his mouth. He caught Reno's eyes, not blinking before pulling the stem out, a perfect bow tied in it.

Reno couldn't help but grin. For someone who was so often at a loss for words, Rude could do some amazing things with his tongue.

We had quite the close race last week!  Those merciless Turks managed to knee-cap everyone in the end to win at 80 points!  Avalanche pulled out their dirtiest terrorist tricks for 70 points. The members of SOLDIER showed the most mercy with 60 points. It just seems so wrong.  ^_~

 

This week’s prompt is #23 – Tongue-Tied

 

Sometimes you are too shy to say anything. Sometimes you get so flabbergasted that words fail you. Occasionally, it’s the situation that leaves you at a loss.  Then there are people who are so good at saying just the right thing that it leaves you flailing for a comeback.

 

Does Cloud have issues choosing his words when he asks Tifa for a date?  Is Vincent fumbling his words, but no one notices because of the cloak? Does Cid just say what’s on his mind, prompting tongue-tied silence from his crew?  Rufus has a big speech to give to investors, will he blow it?

 

Fail to impress, fail to warn, or just fail, be tongue-tied in 100 words.
