Tifa had never been in Cloud's house before, and both she and Mrs. Strife knew it. They kept smiling at each other in discomfort until the phone rang.

"Hello, Cloud." Tifa crossed her ankles under the table and rubbed them together, trying to remember things she wanted to say to Cloud and failing. She hoped he wouldn't snicker at her if she ended up stammering. She hoped she wouldn't stammer at all.

"Tifa from next door is here. Would you like to talk to her?"

Tifa held her breath.

The receiver was put down.

"Maybe some other day."

Tifa stared at her hands. Some other day.

"I escaped, Mom." Aeris smiled. "Cloud stormed the castle and rescued me."

A small pause. "Where are you?"

Aeris took a deep breath. "...Kalm. We're setting out for Junon in the morning."

"Junon?"

"I can't come home, Mom. It's not safe in Midgar anymore." It wasn't a lie, Aeris excused herself, just not the whole truth. "Listen, let me hand you to Barret. He'll explode if he can't talk to Marlene."

“Hello, Seventh Heaven, where the drinks are cold and the atmoshpere is warm!”

 

Raspy breathing sounded over the line.

 

Tifa scowled at the phone. It was too early in the morning for this kind of call, even in Edge. “Hello? Who is this?”

 

“Is this Seventh Heaven?”

 

“Yes, may I help you?”

 

“Is your refrigerator running?”

 

“Um, yes…?”

 

“Well, you’d better catch it!”

 

Tifa blinked, stared at the phone, then snarled, “Vincent, I know you can hear me! If you don’t stop Chaos from making prank calls, I’m going to rip the phone right out of his clammy little hand!”

The Turks fought fire with fire last week as they completely shut out Avalanche and Soldier with 30 points!

This week's prompt is #11 - Phone.

Calling, listening to voice mail, receiving calls - so many of us keep in touch via our phones and it is the same with many of the characters in FFVII.

Barret calling Cloud and Tifa to check on Marlene, Reeve organizing a meeting, Rufus getting a crank call, Vincent losing his phone, Sephiroth making that crank call to Rufus - write about the use of the phone in just 100 words.
