Zack knelt over the fallen trooper. "She kicked your ass, didn't she?"
"Gaaah," Cloud groaned. Zack laughed and helped him to his feet, slinging the boy's arm over his shoulder. "Is she always like that?" Cloud muttered blearily.
"Nah," Zack grinned, "only with people she likes." At Cloud's frankly gobsmacked look, he added, "No, really. She did the same to me when I joined. Even shorter than she is now, and she wiped the floor with me every day. It's just her way of training good future Soldiers."
At that, even Cloud's spikes perked up. "D'you think she's busy tomorrow?"
Title: Caged
Characters/Pairings: Aeris, Ifalna
Team: Avalanche
Rating: G
Word Count: 100
The young Colonel walked through the science wing armed and armored, as if expecting battle to meet her in the antiseptic corridors where she had spent almost all her life. General Sephiroth would have never approved- "let Him see you afraid," he said, "and he will own you," but her esteemed General didn't have any family to speak of. He didn't know what it was like.
In Hojo's deepest sanctum, Aeris set aside her polearm and approached a single tube, filled with mako and the naked body of a beautiful woman. "Mother," she whispered, and thought she saw Ifalna smile.
Title: Warring Goddesses
Characters/Pairings: Sephiroth, Aeris
Team: Avalanche
Rating: G
Word Count: 100
General Sephiroth was a living legend, a blooded warrior and hero of the Wutai War, the one who had led Shinra to global supremacy on the strength of the Soldiers he had forged from an experiment into a flawless fighting unit. Now, with the power and fury of Jenova animating his body and sweeping away the bonds of sanity and brotherhood, General Sephiroth was unstoppable.
All that Colonel Aeris had, by contrast, was the loyalty of her friends, the blessing of her mother, and the entire force of the Lifestream at her beck and call.
Sephiroth never stood a chance.
Title: Not New York, but Not Bad
Characters/Pairings: Michelangelo, a chocobo chick and his mother
Team: Avalanche
Rating: G
Word Count: 100
Author's Notes: This one and the next are for prompt: crossover.
Still unsteady on his feet, the pale yellow chocobo chick the brothers had dubbed Yoshi toddled up to the gate as soon as he spotted Michelangelo. "Hey, little guy," Mikey crooned, scooping Yoshi up and cuddling him to his chest. "How's your first day out in the world? Pretty cool, huh?"
Yoshi peeped contentedly and nibbled at his plastron. Michelangelo ruffled his tiny crest with a thumb, smiling sadly, but before he could get too maudlin a full-grown chocobo rapped him smartly on the back of the head. "Ow. Hi, Mom," he offered sheepishly as Yoshi peeped his own greeting.
Title: Initiation
Characters/Pairings: Leonardo
Team: Avalanche
Rating: G
Word Count: 100
Author's Notes:
Wutai was a harsh place to live, he was told. Earthquakes and storms buffeted the islands yearly; tidal waves were menaces spoken of in legend. Farming was difficult in such conditions, and chocobos were the only livestock safe from monsters. Wutai had no mineral riches, no massive flow of mako worth tapping. The only two things it had in abundance were fighters and magic.
Leonardo meditated on all these things while the blacksmith modified his swords. When he received them back again, each had a green materia crystal set in the blade, humming with the memories of thunder and fire.
