“I dunno, there’s these materia out there that can change gender…” Zack said, and Cloud cut him off, shaking his head. Instead, Zack smirked and leaned in close. “If I’d be an ugly girl, I bet you’d be damn cute.”

Author's Notes: First, many apologies to Lynn Flewelling, whose Tobin was quite prominent in my brain as this bunny came into being. Second, for this one I posit that Shinra, Sr. would have only acknowledged a male as his heir.

Rufus undid the shirt's buttons with a deft hand.

The pants came next, then the underwear. Last were the bandages around his torso, no longer hiding geostigma. His chest wasn't large but was still undeniably female.

He'd been told so many times growing up that he was his father's heir and needed to act the part. He'd had no idea at the time that it would be so difficult.

He still hadn't come to terms with the lengths to which his mother had gone to secure his inheritance, but at least he could look at himself in the mirror now.

She watched men walk carefully, spending weeks perfecting her technique, taking nearly all of the sway out of her stride.

She tried couldn’t make herself taller so she settled on lifts in her shoes that weren’t obvious to the naked eye.

Cutting her hair was not an option, so she found a way to pull it back and slick it down.

That was the price she was willing to pay to be one of the guys.

Tight black leather hides a multitude of questions, questions he’d rather not answer. The gun hides more: few bother to look past it, and those who do lack the nerve to comment on its master’s delicacy.

The change itself had been surprisingly painless, though it seems likely now that it will never be completed. He smiles darkly at the thought that perhaps the gun does make an adequate substitute.

Were the truth known, he doubts that it would matter much anymore, yet still he guards his privacy. His past is someone else’s history.

No one will ever remember Grimoire’s daughter.

Avalache managed to pull off a coup over SOLDIER last week by crashing convention after convention, even Yaoi-con!  They took home the trophy with 310 points!  SOLDIER managed second place with their panels on the care and usage of weaponry for 30 points.  The Turks spent the week avoiding the fangirls like the plague.

This week's prompt is #43 - Gender Bending

Gender bending can be described in many ways but those definitions all boil down to one basic thing - sending out mixed signals regarding one's gender. The more androgynous a person is, the harder it is to tell whether they are male or female.

Gender bending also refers to pushing the envelop regarding appearance and sexuality.  It can include men wearing skirt's, women sporting masculine-looking tattoos or sporting a hairstyle that may traditionally be looked at as fit for the opposite sex.

Gender-benders can confuse as well as push personal comfort zones to the limit.

Does Yazoo's hair and feminine-like features cause him to be mistaken as a girl? Do the guys tease Cloud about his fashion sense by likening it to a half-skirt? Does Yuffie try to present as masculine wherever/whenever she can?  Is Cid hiding a secret feminine identity? Is Genesis a male to female tranny or vice versa?
 
You task this week is to push the envelope on gender, bending it a bit and coming out with only 100 words.
