Zack smiled. “It's your birthday present sir! I read in your public file that this was your birthday, and got you something. I hope you like it.”

Angeal tried not to frown at the bright blue blotch of wrapping paper before him, knowing it would upset the boy. “I don't celebrate my birthday.”

Instead of demanding why, and that everyone celebrated their birthday, a thoughtful look crossed the teen's face. “Would you take it as just... a Random Act Of Giftage then?”

“Well,” Angeal began with laughter in his voice. “If you put it like that...”

"Birthday?" Project Sephiroth looked up at him, not-green-enough eyes wide and uncomprehending.

Hojo huffed noisily. "Don't you know what a birthday is? All brats do is whine about it. Here." He snatched the badge away and clipped it to the collar of Sephiroth's hospital gown. "You're fourteen now, the age of majority. That means you're officially a member of Shinra staff and get one of those."

"Oh." Sephiroth peered at the badge critically. "Does this mean I don't have to do tests today?"

"...No."

Cloud’s seventeenth birthday was spent pounding fruitlessly against the wall of the mako tube he was trapped in, yelling and screaming imprecations until the scientists got tired of him and flooded it.

He spent his eighteenth birthday staring in agony at Zack being torn apart on the operating table, before he dove in to sleep to avoid it.

He floated lifelessly through his nineteenth, twentieth, and twenty-first birthdays.

His twenty-second birthday found him burying a sword in a cliff with a shattered promise.

He’d expected to die alone and in agony before his twenty-third birthday passed.

He didn’t.

He was a father.

It was a beautiful day.

She’d gone into labor not long after dinner the night before, mistaking the first contractions for indigestion. They accelerated quickly. It occurred to him that her last meal had been spaghetti; by morning, she’d long since become nauseous with pain.

That was over now, of course. The child was healthy. And if health was the absence of sickness and pain, Lucretia was as healthy as she had ever been. She had done good work, which was all he could expect.

It was, despite everything, time for breakfast. He washed his hands.

There were thirteen cards on the doormat for Yazoo, sixteen for Kadaj (though Yazoo suspected he'd written four himself) and....two for Loz, one from Cloud and one from some club announcing that he 'was now legal' and could drink there, a personalised 'won't you, Laz, be the envy of your friends...' card.

Loz sulked. 'They didn't even get my name right, why does everyone ALWAYS forget me?! Even Yazoo and Kadaj did!'

Yazoo came up behind Loz and hugged him tight as Kadaj carried in the large cake, covered in candles. 'Look, we've made you a cake! Happy Birthday Loz!'

As expected, Reno is a very popular guy (especially with his own group!).  The Turks grabbed up the trophy this round with a good 20 points.  SOLDIER had a few found memories of the tough (sexy, hot...) Turk and they managed a decent 10 points for their own team.  Avalanche is still pissed at Reno and are sulking in the corner for a while.
