"What the...?" Zack paused the moment he stepped into the innermost room of the reactor. Sephiroth seemed to be just as taken aback as he was, staring at the tube with the remains of his precious Mother.

Jenova, Zack mentally corrected himself.

The man in a white trench coat who shouldn't have been there turned around with a smirk. The mako light glinted off his glasses, Zack absently noted that there was something up with one of his eyes that shone an eerie blue.

"Ah, Sephiroth," the stranger tilted his head to the side. "I'm afraid, I can't let you have her..."

"You are not afraid of me." It was a statement, not a question, intrigued fingers ghosting along Genesis' jawline until the moment was crudely broken by a sharp mechanical sound. The tall man in black stepped back with a barely visible scowl.

"Time to inject your drug of choice, Cleric," Genesis purred with a malicious smirk.

"Take him away!"

"Once you decided that you are interested in what I can offer, drop me a call," Genesis laughed, dodging the enforcers and their bullets with superior speed and disappearing into the night.

Grammaton Cleric First Class Sephiroth clenched his hands into fists.

"Yes, you know well it's the exam period, Genesis," Angeal descends on the other, crosses his arms sternly.

"I just thought we could play a little..."

"I have exams, Genesis."

"... with chocolate sauce."

"I'm sold!" comes the brisk response, and he laughs as we both blush red.

Their advance is halted by the river. It takes four days of thoughtless bloodshed to capture the bridgehead, two more to capture the other.

The SOLDIERs are given a day’s rest to recover.

Genesis leans back to a tree, watching the water still throwing up dead bodies just to swallow them again. He hears the approaching footsteps, but doesn’t look up.

"Why are you torturing yourself?" Angeal sighs and leans to the very same tree.

"Six days of massacre for this bridge…" Genesis sighs, pushes himself away, eyes now resting on the steel structure. "Sephiroth would’ve done it in four."
