Cloud looked from the sword he was carrying to President Shinra and tried not to seem too nervous. "It was just shoved into the ground over there, and Zack needed a sword pronto, and..."

The president cut him off. "Turks!"

Crap. Cloud wondered if even Zack could get him out of this.

Dark suited men surrounded them. "See that this young man is cleaned up and properly attired. He is now my heir."

"WHAT?" Rufus demanded.

"What?" Cloud squeaked.

"Didn't you know, m'boy? 'Whosoever draws forth the buster sword from the stone...'"

"Because they're mine," Aeris interrupts. Zack looks up to see her approaching with a swagger worthy of a pirate, tries not to gape when she adds, "I don't see any reason to give them up."

He keeps a straight face all through the bargaining, during which Aeris is as cutthroat as they come, and until their would-be purchasers finally give up. He doesn't start grinning until she smacks his arm and turns to ask Cloud if he's all right.

"Try not to get mistaken for whores again, boys," she says in answer to his grin. "I don't like to share."

He paused and looked to see if Cloud was buying it. Cloud drew a deep breath and resisted the urge to bury his face in his hands.

"Zack, I don't care how you spin it, no one in the world is going to take being mistaken for a chocobo as a compliment!"

Drunks. They were always mistaking her for someone they knew, someone they wanted to know, or someone who wanted to know them. More accurately, they were always mistaking her breasts for someone they knew or wanted to know, and she supposed it was possible they thought her breasts returned the sentiment. It would help explain why she'd had entire soliloquies directed at her chest. Sometimes, there were tears... once or twice even before she'd shot the loser du jour down.

Tifa supposed it would all be flattering, if it didn't make her want to ram her fist down their throats.

"Boys." Tifa snorted. "And their love affairs with their toys."

"And each other."

"Hell yeah."

The three bikes overtook him before Cloud could draw a weapon to defend himself. The first swept up on his right, a manic laugh reaching his ears as it passed.

He could swear the rider had a tail.

On his left, the second bike's rider, solid muscle and covered in grey... fur?... raised a fist in greeting, sunlight glinting off the gunmetal of his arm.

The third rider came up behind the second; the helmet opened, revealing a pointed muzzle and whiskers. "Nice bike!"

Cloud watched the three mice race ahead of him and decided he really needed a vacation.

"If I survive this," she tried again, speaking directly into the bowl this time, "I am going to break every. Bone. In your. Body."

"How was I supposed to know it’d already gone bad?"

"Next time you want to have a romantic dinner," she groaned, "you’re taking me out."
