“Oh come on, we’re in a church – surely you have something to confess!” Aerith laughed, hitting him on the arm (as useless as that really was).

Still, Zack being Zack, he mimed taking a terrible blow, reeling back from her to her amusement.

“Well, let’s see. It’s just that I don’t have too many secrets,” he explained, looking thoughtful as he returned to the topic of conversation. “How about…” Suddenly, he leaned close, his lips just brushing hers, and then pulled away. Those glowing eyes twinkled at her, smile going soft. “That was my first kiss.”

“I thought I would die when I lost each of you.” Cloud’s voice is soft where he kneels on the wooden boards, next to the pool of water.

“All I wanted was to be forgiven, even if it wasn’t my fault.”

And it wasn’t.

They’re as familiar as his heartbeat, and he lets himself smile.
