Five drabbles
Title: Welcome the Allfather
Author: [info]raisedbymoogles
Characters: Cid, the children of Rocket Town
Team: Avalanche
Rating: G
Word Count: 100.

He appeared in the town square amid flashes of smoke prepared by his crewmates, his ragged cloak thrown rakishly over his shoulder, an eyepatch covering one eye, the other glittering with mad mischief as he raised his spear in the air. "Who will welcome Odin the Allfather," his voice boomed (courtesy of a sound rig), "this dark Yule night?"

The children ran to him, clutching and hugging his knees. Odin laughed his booming laugh and slung his sack off his shoulder, and began to pass out presents to them all.

Oh yes, Cid Highwind was a huge hit at Yule.

Title: Hope in Despair
Author: [info]raisedbymoogles
Characters: Cid, Palmer
Team: Avalanche
Rating: G
Word Count: 100.

Cid stood at the window, gritting his teeth over his cigarette. In the distance, Shinra No. 36 leaned precariously over the landscape like a hopeless drunk. The worst kind.

"For what it's worth," Palmer said quietly, staring into his tea, "I'm sorry. I tried. The President just... thinks the army is a higher priority right now."

Cid found his voice. "Yeah," he croaked, "yeah." He turned, forcing a grin. "Well, there's always next year, right? You keep working on old man Shinra. I'll make sure the rocket's ready."

Palmer offered a smile, but there was no hope in his eyes.

Title: The Woman with the Shattered Heart
Author: [info]raisedbymoogles
Characters: Cid, Shera
Team: Avalanche
Rating: PG-13 for language
Word Count: 100.

What pissed him off most was - well, besides the whole "dream shot to shit" business - was that she was surprised he pushed that goddamn button.

When he'd seen her in the hospital that first time, she'd been covered in steam burns and unable to talk, but her eyes had spoken for her. She had truly expected - wanted - to be dead.

It was years before Cid began to realize: it wasn't that she thought he was that kind of man. Shera's hurts ran deeper, and though it wasn't Cid's job to fix her, he couldn't bring himself to hate her anymore.

Title: Shared
Author: [info]raisedbymoogles
Characters: Cid, Vincent, Shera
Team: Avalanche
Rating: NC-17 for implied sex and Cid cursing like a... well, a Cid, really. ^_^;;
Word Count: 100.

He was an old-fashioned man in many ways. He made sure his lovers knew and approved of each other, and though there were things he could share with one that he couldn't with another, he never made either feel left out or neglected. In a way, whoever Cid was with, they were both a part of it.

"Oh fuck, Vin - yeah - oh shit, there - goddamn - are you changing!? Fuck - ah - no, don't stop - goddamn, you got huge all of a sudden! Slow the hell down! - That's better, yeah, shit -"

Shera smiled to herself and put the kettle on to boil.

Title: Wedding Night Peace
Author: [info]raisedbymoogles
Characters: Cid, Shera, Vincent
Team: Avalanche
Rating: R for implied sexual situations
Word Count: 100.

He looked awfully awkward in that suit, Vincent found himself thinking. He kept tugging at the collar, and he kept fishing in his pockets as if looking for a cigarette. The only time his hands were steady was when he and Shera were exchanging rings.

Vincent shadowed them home, unwilling to intrude but wanting with a small ache to see them happy, see them share things he couldn't. In the bedroom, Shera loosened Cid's tie and pushed him back on the bed, her small callused hands firm and unafraid. Vincent's demons eased and he went to sleep on the airship.
