Community move

This asylum will now be moving to Dreamwidth. Thank you for all the great 100s up until now. It has been a lot of fun, but participation has really dwindled here. A community is only as good as it's participation, therefore I believe this asylum has run it's course on insanejournal and will benefit from the move to dreamwidth.

If you would like to join us there, I have a handy dandy link for you:

For the time being, prompts are being re-run there. So, if you missed out on a prompt, you may just be in luck the second time around! Also, since it is a new community there, please feel free to repost work that was posted here for the upcoming prompts there. Hopefully, we will have a rockingly active community once again.

If you need a Dreamwidth invite, let me know and I will provide you one.

Prompt #155

No points were awarded for last week.

This week's prompt is #155 - New Beginnings

This week, give the characters a fresh start or let them just begin again.

Are Cloud and Tifa eloping for a new life together? Is Rufus starting a new business? Has Tseng decided to retire to Wutai? Are the triplets beginning life more human? Is Cid finally getting a shot at his dream with the start of a new space program/

Whatever the beginning, whoever the lucky character - write it in just 100 words.

Mod note:

By the way, I am thinking about moving this entire community over to dreamwidth. That community's prompts are repeats ofthe ones here. I just wanted to get input from all of you on the matter of whether I should close this community down and make the move - I would, of course, provide any of you invite codes if you don't have one so that you could participate. It's just that there has been a lack of participation in this community for a while and that's not really any fun for anyone.

You thoughts?

Prompt #154

No points were awarded for last week.

This week's prompt is #154 - Voyeurism

That's right, we like to watch!

Is Reno spying on the president as he masturbates? Has Kunsel really videotaped everyone n the showers? Does Cloud watch Tifa undress? Does Cid frequent that little hole in the ladies room wall? What does Vincent think as he watches the Triplets nocturnal behaviors? Does Sephiroth know he is being watched and by whom?

Give us a peek, but do it in just 100 words!

Prompt #153

No points were awarded for last week's challenge.

This week's prompt is #153 - Reeve Tuesti

That's right, folks! It's time to show the architect of Midgar some fandom love. It's Reeve Week!

Who is this architect behind the mako reactors? What was his motivation in the creation of Cait Sith? Does Cid send him death threats over his support of the space program cancellation? With the split from Shinra, how does he feel about his prior involvement with the company? Doe he and Tseng regularly have drinks to discuss under the table deals? What does this quiet tinkerer think about when he is alone?

Drabbles can be from Reeve's point of view or just about him from afar, but they must include Reeve somewhere in just 100 words.

Prompt #152

No points were awarded for last week.

This week's prompt is #152 - Honor

It's easy to jump from the prompt to Angeal Hewley - the man is a living epitome of honor, after all. But he's not the only one: presumably, every SOLDIER has his own ideal of honor and strives to uphold it in his own way.

Is Genesis trying to reclaim his honor before the Goddess? How does Cloud justify working with eco-terrorists? What does Rufus think of "honor thy mother and father" - or does he just laugh at the thought? What part of "love, honor, and obey" does Cid run afoul of, presuming Shera managed to talk him into marriage in the first place? Does Jenova even understand the concept?

Take a look at honor, from any perspective, and let 100 words be your guide.

Prompt #151

No points were awarded for last week.

This week's prompt is #151 - Characters in a Film

Your task this week is to place the characters from FFVII into a pre-existing film. They can be major or minor characters.

Are the Turks part of a super-secret organization who may or may not refer to themselves as the Men In Black? Has Vincent awoken to find himself the major character in a vampire movie (heaven help him if he sparkles)? Is Reeve working with the Autobots? Is Cloud a replicant or a Cylon? Does Sephiroth have to defeat other swordsmen because there can be only one Highlander?

I can imagine that TV Tropes may come in handy for this prompt challenge.

Whichever movie you drop the characters into, be they minor or major characters, show us their adventure in just 100 words.

Prompt #150

No points were awarded for last week's challenge.

This week's prompt is #150 - Vincent Valentine

Are you ready for some gun slinging?  It's Vincent week.

How does it feel to be a container for so many demons? How was his life as a Turk - does he miss it? How does he feel about Yuffie (or Cloud, or Cid, or Reeve, or any of the Turks)? Is there a story behind his gun? How often does he visit Lucrezia? What is his ultimate revenge against Hojo? Is he really as brooding and moody as some of fandom claim and if so, how would he be if he let loose his fun side (if he has a fun side)?

Drabbles can be from Vincent's point of view or just about him from afar, but they must include Vincent somewhere in just 100 words.

Prompt #149

Last week, Avalanche finally claimed the trophy with 10 points. It's been a while, so I think they are celebrating pretty heavily. SOLDIER and the Turks show no signs of getting that trophy back.

This week's prompt is #149 - Fate Worse Than Death

This week, we asked you to open your minds to the question: What, for our characters, would be a fate worse than death?

Would it be stuck in a dead end job? Marrying someone they don't like? Being a subject in Hojo's laboratory? Cross-dressing? Being forced to wear plaid? A grounded space mission? Serving the Shinra corporation?

Whatever their fate is, give the characters worse than death in exactly 100 words.

Title: Deduction
Characters/Pairings: Yuffie, Cloud, Tifa
Team: Avalanche
Word Count: 100

Yuffie’s protest earned her another jab in the ribs from a booted foot.

“Get up.”

Ok... that was Cloud. Voice uninflected, yet still annoyed.

How’d he do that?

“Yuffie. Get up.”

Where was she, anyway? Somewhere hard and flat. Chilly, too. The floor?

“She must have snuck in late last night.” That was Tifa, tone amused yet exasperated.

Cloud... Tifa... sneaking....

The bar! She was in the bar.

At least the floor would be clean.

Another nudge had her flinching away and forcing herself upright.

That’s when the headache registered and the real pain began.

Prompt #148

It looks like the Turks were too busy to recognize one of their own last week, while SOLDIER couldn't be bothered. Avalanche walks away with the trophy for 10 points.

This week's prompt is #148 - First Word, Last Word

Words telling a story come in many shapes and sizes, falling in whatever rhythm best suits the tale. Repetition, whether to drive home a point or show its opposite, is a literary tradition in its own right - and this week, we want you to play with it. ("It" being repetition, you silly 12-year-olds! Stop that right now!)

For this challenge, the point is simply this: your story must begin and end with the same word. Whether it's a character waxing poetic or delivering a dire warning, stumbling over a declaration of love or repeating an order at the drive-thru, find a way to begin and end on the same note.

But do it in just 100 words.  :3

Sometimes You Need To Ask Yourself, Why?

Title: Sometimes You Need To Ask Yourself, Why?
Characters/Pairings: Tseng, Elena, President Shinra
Team: Avalanche
Rating: G
Word Count: 100
Author's Notes: "My bed is jumping around," is apparently Polish for: "Good God, I'm smashed."

It really is more like glorified babysitting than an actual job. I have to cart the president around, make sure everyone plays nice and at the end of the night, I have to put him to bed.

We nearly fall face first to the ground as we cross the threshold to his bedroom. "Hey Elena, my bed’s jumping around!“ His voice is slurred.

"No Sir, it’s staying in its place. You just need some sleep.“ Yeah, babysitting. But, as I look over at Tseng, underneath the president’s other arm, I remember that it’s not just the paycheck keeping me here.

Prompt #147

A little genderswapping in the Shinra building was it took to give the Turks the win this week. Ten points and the trophy sits in their locker room (or on Rufus' desk, whichever you imagine). SOLDIER didn't want to swing that way - scaredy cats. And Avalanche was busy with a treehugging event somewhere.

This week's prompt is #147 - Elena

It's Elena week!  Elena really doesn't get enough respect. She seems to be seen quite frequently as the cast-off Turk. Let's change that this week by showing her some love.

Who is Elena? How did she become a Turk? What does she want out of her life? Does she have the hots for Tseng or Reno or Tifa? How does she really feel about her job? Does she constantly pick on Reno or is it the other way around? What is an average day in her life like?

Drabbles can be from Elena's point of view or just about her from afar, but they must include Elena somewhere in just 100 words.

The Female of the Species

Title: The Female of the Species
Characters/Pairings: AVALANCHE, "Rufus" Shinra
Team: Turks
Rating: PG 13, Barret says a bad word.
Word Count: 100
Author's Notes: First time writing genderswap, but I do have the most vivid image of girl Rufus in my head now, it's quite awesome.

They regarded the dead President somberly, Masamune pinning his corpse to the table, the sound of a helicopter approaching. "Ruth! Shit! I forgot about her!" Barret swore, lifting his gun arm.

"Who's that?" Tifa asked.

"Vice President Ruth. The President's daughter. I heard no one's ever seen her bleed or cry." he replied with a small shiver.

Outside the chopper landed and a strawberry blonde with cold eyes emerged in a sinfully low cut white business suit, catching sight of them and smiling, leveling a shotgun at them. Was that a cat next to her? "So, who are you guys?"

Prompt #146

SOLDIER seems to excel at killing everyone in sight. They take home the trophy for 20 points. The Turks are not far behind with their dirty deeds as they come in second with 10 points. Avalanche doesn't really want to hurt anyone, they just want to save the world.

This week's prompt is #146 - Genderswap

This was a prompt that came in quite some time ago from [info]raisedbymoogles.

Remember, the prompt is genderswap not gender bending. The character in question has to completely change gender, not just confuse the senses.

Have the scientists just perfected genderswap materia and are looking for someone to volunteer to try it out? Has Tifa woken up to an unexpected surprise? Has Vincent been hiding his womanly features behind that red cloak? Is Aerith saving the world while Zack is selling flowers?

No matter how you arrange the swap, set it up in just 100 words.

I Don't Want to Set The World on Fire

Title: I Don't Want to Set The World on Fire
Characters/Pairings: Sephiroth and Cloud
Team: Turks
Rating: PG-13. No actual naughtiness, just very dark.
Word Count: 100
Author's Notes: First time here and boy did it go a bit dark...

Cloud smiled as Meteor came crashing down towards the Northern Cave. He had failed, his friends broken bodies lying around him. Sephiroth stood there, looking every inch the God he claimed to be, staring up at the world dissolving around them. "So soon, the power of the Lifestream will all be mine!"

"What?" A flash of scarlet across his face, in his hair.

Cloud smiled wider; the Buster Sword through Sephiroth's chest, close enough to whisper. "I'm taking you with me."

And as they fell into the centre of the Planet, he laughed. "For Nibelhiem. For everyone. Goodbye Sephiroth."

No Smoking!

Title: No Smoking!
Challenge: Everybody Dies

Character: heroic ensemble
Word count: 100

Yuffie looked around the expansive interior of Cid’s newest airship. “Not bad! But…”

Cid glowered. “But what?”

“How does it stay up? I mean, the propellers ARE kind of small for a ship this size.”

Cid crammed an unlit cigarette into his mouth and fumbled for his lighter. “There’s gas bladders for the lift. There’s all kind of gasses in the air around us, and some of them are so light they make things filled with them float.”

Yuffie frowned. “I know all about chemistry, Cidney! I’m not stupid! Which gas is it?”

He raised the lighter. “Hydrogen.”

“WAIT –!!!”

Paddle Faster

Title: Paddle Faster
Characters/Pairings: Angeal, Genesis, Sephiroth
Rating: G
Word Count: 100
Author's Notes: I...I'm going to hell, aren't I?

Angeal had been trying for years to journey to the wilderness to photograph the huge raptors’ mating flights or to get close enough to the nests to get some shots of the chicks.  But missions and paperwork had always prevented him from getting out to the birds’ territory.

But now, thanks to planning, some calling in of favors, and a touch of sexual persuasion, Angeal found himself swiftly drifting down a river in a canoe, with Genesis and Sephiroth to boot.

None of them noticed as they passed a sign nearly obscured by vegetation that read:
Warning!  Rocs’ Falls ahead!

Prompt #145

Last week, pranks were as contagious as enthusiasm for the Turks. They win this round with 20 points. In SOLDIER, laughter was contagious for 10 points. Avalanche has had all their vaccines and are therefore immune.

This week's prompt is #145 - Everybody Dies

That's right, all the characters featured in your drabbles this week must die.

Is it the end of days for dear Sephiroth? Has Cloud finally succumbed to his geostigma? Has there been a terrible accident for the members of Avalanche? Are the Turks being killed one by one by some mass murderer? Has Hojo become his own test subject?

Regardless of the way you write it, these drabbles will not end well. Remember -  everybody dies in just 100 words.

This Never Happened, Agreed?

Title: This Never Happened, Agreed?
Characters/Pairings: Reno, Tseng
Rating: G
Team: Turks
Word Count: 100
Author’s Notes: The World Cup: the one thing that can possibly get me to wake up before 8 on a weekend.

Though Tseng professed hatred of the game, he could not take his eyes off the screen.

He watched from the break room as the ball was kicked to the other end of the pitch, the clock ticking down the last thirty seconds of the game. Then the ball slipped past the keeper and went into the net. Reno leapt to his feet, an exhilarated cry ripped from his throat.

Tseng found himself caught up in Reno’s enthusiasm, forgetting himself and cheering victory; then wondered why he and Reno were suddenly clutching each other and jumping up and down like lunatics.

Guilty By Association

Title: Guilty By Association
Characters/Pairings: Sephiroth, Angeal, Zach, ?
Rating: PG
Team: Turks
Word Count: 100

Sephiroth didn’t think he’d ever been so intent on murder, even in the heat of battle. Mako fueled his rage as he stomped down the corridor, SOLDIERs scattering left and right before him to avoid being trampled by the general.

Angeal looked up from his paperwork when his door exploded inward. Doesn’t my office door open out!? He very carefully didn’t let any hint of mirth show on his face.

Sephiroth seethed in the smoking doorway, coated in green gelatin and chocobo feathers. “Your godsdamned pet has infected someone else with his insanity. Take care of it, or I will!”
