Project Runway - S8E10
If you gave up on Project Runway this season, you're missing out! This week's episode was a beautiful one. If you just jump in and watch this one I don't think it will mean as much as if you've gotten to know the designers and feel a bit of love for them, but it's still worth watching. The 5 most recent episodes are still available online. If you want to catch up you can watch them here on mylifetime.com.

I'm proud to say I've liked Mondo since the second episode. To quote myself from back then, "And Mondo, sweet, bizarre, talented Mondo... I can't wait to see more from him." He and April and maybe Andy are the only designers left that I can really say that about now. Their stuff is so much more interesting than the other designers'. Some of them make beautiful pieces (Christopher, even Michael... and I'll grudgingly admit Gretchen), but their stuff just doesn't pull me in the way Mondo's does.

A few weeks ago I was discussing with [info]opal11 and [info]not_yet_defined. I'd love to hear more thoughts on the designers and the show! Back then we had this to say...

[info]pendulumchanges: I still like watching Project Runway, but it's definitely not as good as other seasons. The designers just don't have any of that amazing talent, that super interesting spark that they did in previous seasons. There isn't a Christian Siriano in this bunch. I like Mondo though, he might be the closest thing we've got this season. The judging is so wacky I don't even know what to think. Stuff I love they hate, stuff they love I absolutely hate (Gretchen's weird jumpsuit thing that she won with in the second episode???), stuff the other designers love the judges hate, etc. etc. etc. It's just so confusing. There's more drama and cattiness than in previous seasons too. I much prefer watching them all be silly than watching them all bitch at each other. So yeah, I'm still excited to watch it every week, but it's not as fun as it used to be. What do you think?

[info]opal11i agree with you whole heartedly... i think its the best of the worst really, i dont like gretchen, ivy or cant think of the other girl.. none of them are good.. gretchen does everything in beige..(ready to smack her). i love mondo.. he is just so dang cute.. i like andy too. i think he is capable of alot more.. but there is not anyone that stands out.. there is not a christian in the bunch.. but yea i will continue to watch, and trust me is ivy or gretchen gets booted you will hear it from your end of the states..(im in california) i will be soo soo happy.!

[info]not_yet_defined: what are you thinking of PR? i'm not really enjoying this season. except the part where tim ripped gretchen a new one. that was awesome. but there is no one i'm really wanting to win. i don't like anyone much. and i hate most of the judging.

[info]pendulumchanges: the more I think about it the more I'm just sort of meh about all the designers. No one stands out. There is a lot more (quote-unquote) "talent" on this season - you know, more technical skill, more experience - but that makes them all boring. They're all so caught up in their heads that it doesn't seem like any of them are pulling a great design out of their imagination the day of the challenge. It's like they have a bunch of designs in their head and before they even hear the challenge they've decided what they're going to make, so it's all just blah. I always felt like Santino and Christian were really producing something original, on the spot, for every challenge. Also, the judging is so all over the place that it seems like they're all stumbling around trying to do something the judges will like. Andy and April at least do their own thing and I appreciate that. Their stuff is more interesting for it. hmm... the more I think about it the more I think Mondo's got this. He's technically very good and his designs are interesting and they're clearly his designs. I suppose Gretchen is that way too, but I feel like all of her stuff is part of a current trend, instead of being trend-setting. hee, you've gotten me all thoughtful and chatty about PR!

So what do you think? Have you been watching? Who do you think is going to make it to fashion week???

I did neglect to mention in my short comment, or maybe it was made the week before I realized it, that I do really like April and Mondo. I don't know when my liking started exactly, but it was pretty early on.

Mondo had been steadily growing on me, but two weeks ago (the episode where he won $20,000) with those two looks, he just killed me. They were spectacular. Andy's was pretty cool in that episode too but seriously, when you looked at his two pieces alongside the other pieces in the top 3, they were just so much better, so much more right on the challenge it was unquestionable.

I've always like April's designs as well, although I do with she would move away from so much black. I think you can be a dark designer and still use some colors other than just black.

I still don't like Gretchen, I find some of her things pretty, but always boring.

I feel the same about Christopher. His clothes are beautiful, but totally unmemorable. The artist in me finds him completely uninspiring.

Michael I feel pretty Meh about. Early on I thought he did some interesting stuff, but now everything has started to blend together. He does nice evening dresses. Full stop.

As for this weeks episode, I don't know what to say. I cried. It was beautiful and touching and far more than I've come to expect from this show at this point. And the clothes Mondo produced from it. Awesome. His ability to mix patterns is just astounding. I wish he could come to my house and give me wardrobe tips.

Yeah. That's all i've got for now.

I watch every week, but not usually until the weekend. So post about the show whenever you feel like it! at least I'll be here to discuss.

I always felt like Santino and Christian were really producing something original, on the spot, for every challenge.

and YES to that. They are still probably my favorite two designers, although Mondo is squeezing his way in fast.

On a side note, have you been watching On the Road with Austin and Santino? If you aren't. You should. That show is hilarious. I wasn't too sure about Austin when I started watching, but I've fallen madly in love with those two. Even C, who abhors all things to do with fashion, is hooked on this show. As she says, she couldn't care less about the dress they make, but those two are just too entertaining for words.
