| About: | A community for all who wish to discuss feminism. General Rules 1. Respect No one says all feminists have to think and act alike. That means that someone may hold an opinion different to yours yet still call themselves feminist. In this asylum, please disagree respectfully, and treat each other with respect at all times. No flaming, name calling or harassment will ever be tolerated in this community. 2. Stay on topic Feminism covers a wide range of subjects, but any post here must in some way relate back to feminism. Posting about the changes in Hermione's role in the Harry Potter movies can be feminist; posting about how hot her actor is isn't on topic for this asylum and should be posted else where. 3. Be aware of privilege Privilege in the feminist sphere means the various ways in which one person/group has it better in the greater society than others. Heterosexual, able-bodied, white Christian men are the usual example of the privileged population in the Western world today. However all of us have privileges that we may or may not currently be aware of and I ask you to be aware of where you're coming from when posting. Don't assume that everyone's experiences have been the same as yours. 4. Be willing to educate Nobody is perfect, that means we may all make mistakes, however the rest of us should be willing to point out and help each other learn from said mistakes (respectfully. See rule one). Also, you don't have to be a card-carrying member of NOW to join this asylum; we may have people who have been feminists for 50 years here, or people who just got interested yesterday. There's a wide range of experiences here and we should be willing to share them with others. 5. Be willing to be educated As a follow up to rule four, join this asylum with an open mind, ready and willing to learn about new ideas and experiences. You don't have to like or agree with what everyone else is saying, but be willing to listen (or click the back button if you don't like the way the conversation is going.) Posting Rules IJ-Cuts Long posts, posts with images, and graphic discussions of criminal behavior (rape, abuse, etc), must all be posted behind an IJ Cut. Post deletion In a word: don't. When a post goes out to a community, it is no longer just your post. Deleting a post not only removes your words, but also any conversations that may be going on in the comments. This means that everyone else is silenced at the same time. Feel free to edit your post to fix HTML/grammar mistakes. Comment deletion Never delete someone else's comment. If you're having trouble with a harassing commenter, let me know and I'll handle the situation. The Mod's Place I hope to take a backseat role in this asylum. I'll contribute regularly, of course, but I hope that I won't have to do too much real modersting. That being said, I do not take lightly to asylum rules being broken. "I didn't know" isn't a good excuse; you should have read these rules before joining the community. These are the steps I will take when dealing with problems in the asylum: Warning: I'll give you one warning to change your behavior. Freezing a comment thread may also be part of this step. Deletion: I'll delete the comments/posts that are violating asylum rules. Temporary ban: Posting access will be suspended for 1-2 weeks.
