Who: Jack Shephard and Allison Cameron
Where: The jungle, then the beach
When: Day One; Half an hour after the crash.

Eager to get free of the suffocating jungle, Jack had broken into a jog, doing his best to avoid the branches and vines that tried to desperately to attack his face. The numb feeling in his shoulder (which had spread halfway down his side) was starting to wear off now, and each motion of his arm caused a new wave of pain to shoot through him.

Finally, with a huge sigh of relief, Jack broke through the trees and found himself staring out across the calm ocean. It was picturesque really, with the exception of the massive destruction of the plane spread across the sand.

He wasn't sure how long he had been in the jungle. It could've been minutes, or perhaps hours. People were scrambling around helping others. There were bodies everywhere. Some moving, some not.

Jack, still breathing heavily from his exertions, stepped out of the jungle and headed toward the wreckage. He needed to find something to stop his own bleeding - and possibly find something to stitch up his shoulder, if need be.

With that in mind, the doctor knelt by some of the luggage and began rummaging through it. He found several handkerchiefs and, after searching through a few more bags, managed to scrape up a small sewing kit with various colors of thread inside.

After finding what he needed, Jack sought solitude away from the rest of the survivors. He found it a little ways down the beach, close enough to still see the wreckage, but far enough away to be private.

Dropping to his knees, the doctor began stripping off his jacket, shirt, and undershirt, each more painful to remove than the last.

After helping Arabella, Cameron had gone on to help an extremely pregnant blonde woman, and several other of the survivors. She knew she should still be out on the beach - but she needed to escape. Even if only for a few minutes, she needed to clear her head.

She needed air, she needed space. Walking through the jungle (and staying as close to the beach as possible), Cameron attempted to sort out her emotions on what was going on. She was having very little success in doing so. This was all far to surreal for her to wrap her mind around what had happened. It was like something out of a movie. Plane crashes weren't supposed to happen.

Cameron sighed slightly and put a hand to her temple. She had managed to clot the bleeding from the small gash in her forehead, other than that she was lucky - only a few minor cuts and bruises. She wished she could say the same for some of the other survivors.

She stopped noticing that someone was nearby. Her eyes widened when she realized who the man kneeling only a few feet away was - and she could have sworn she felt her heart stop.

No, no, this isn't possible! Cameron's mouth opened slightly but no sound came out. She knew Jack was in Australia, but this was the last thing she had ever expected.

At first she was tempted to run. After all Jack did hate her, didn't he? They would be rescued in a matter of days, and there were other survivors - she could easily hide herself from Jack.

However before she even realized she was doing it, the name she never thought she'd say again (at least not to this specific person), left her lips.

"...Jack?"

At the sound of his name, the doctor looked up - and his breath caught in his throat. Mouth slack, Jack could only stare at the woman standing some yards away from him, her appearance disheveled and obviously exhausted.

How many times had he thought of the woman since she'd left St. Sebastian's? He didn't even know. Not a day had gone by that something hadn't reminded him of her. He never thought he'd see her again.

And yet here she was standing before him.

"Allison..."

Cameron swallowed. It was him, it really was Jack. He really was here.

"Jack..." Cameron repeated, suddenly feeling overwhelmed with emotion.

I love you, Jack! Cameron's mind was suddenly screaming. But he hated her, Cameron was convinced, so her feeling she kept to herself.

But all her time at PPTH, Cameron had regretted never telling Jack how she had felt. Hadn't some poet said better to have loved and lost than never loved at all.

She kept staring at him, completely unsure of what to say...or do - until she realized he was hurt.

"You're hurt!" Cameron gasped, her eyes widening a little more (if that was possible). "Let...let me help you?"

The last part came out as more of a question, then a statement.

It wasn't until she said something that Jack remembered he was injured. All the pain seemed to come rushing back, and as he lifted an arm to test the area with his fingers, the man winced and cried out involuntarily. It definitely needed attention.

"Yeah." His tone was sharp, indicating his pain. Then more calmly he said, "Yes. Please. It needs stitches."

Even as he dug in his coat pocket for the bottle of alcohol the stewardess secreted him, Jack couldn't help but wonder at Allison's appearance here. She'd been on the plane? She'd been in Australia?

[FOR SERIOUS!!!]

Cameron almost cried out herself, when Jack did. Her mouth had gone completely dry, and her stomach felt like lump of coal.

She slowly made her way to Jack and knelt down beside him.

Moistening her lips she glanced down at the wound.

"Are you hurt anywhere else?" Cameron asked, looking at the wound and not at Jack's face.

He was here. With her. Hurt. Stranded on an island. Jack...

The man took a few seconds to think about the question. If he was hurt anywhere else he couldn't tell (which was a good sign). Breathing out, Jack shook his head, his eyes on the sand in front of him. "No," he answered.

Despite what had happened, it really was good to hear the woman's voice again. He'd missed her, and wondered if she'd missed him at all. Probably not, considering the last words they exchanged.

The coolness of the small bottle of alcohol in his hand brought Jack back to the present. Gripping the bottle a little tighter, he extended it over his shoulder to Allison. "Here," he said, "For your hands."

[RARG! It ate my post!]

Cameron managed a small smile as she accepted the bottle from Jack. As she cleaned her hands with the contents she debated on what she should say - if anything.

Would it even matter? They'd be rescued in a few days, and there was no way Cameron was staying around LA now. She'd be on the first plane back to New Jersey - she didn't even care where in New Jeresy.

"Um," she moistened her lips. "Do you care what colour thread I use?"

[ohnoez!! *bites IJ*]

In spite of the pain, Jack managed a small, breathy laugh at Cameron's question. "Basic black is fine."

Resting his hands on his knees, Jack wet his lips and prepared himself for the inevitable discomfort that was to come when Cameron began sewing his wound closed. Talking would be a good distraction...

"Why were you in Australia?" He asked, not looking at her. "If you don't mind me asking."

Cameron swallowed, "Because I needed a break from Ho..."

She paused. What was the point in lying? It wouldn't do either of them any good would it? Besides, if Jack hated her before it wouldn't make a difference now - would it?

"Your mother," she replied softly, as she worked on Jack's stitches. "She called me...she wanted me to see if I could find you. To make sure you were alright."

She paused, realizing this now meant she had to say the inevitable. "I'm sorry about your father, Jack."

When she hesitated, Jack's brow furrowed. He had intended to question her about it, but at that moment Cameron pierced his flesh with the sharp little needle, and his voice was taken from him. Hissing out a breath, the spinal surgeon forced himself to concentrate on the woman's voice. Which surprisingly wasn't all that difficult.

His attention peaked at the mention of his mother. Cameron had spoken with her? Or, more importantly, his mother had wanted Cameron to make sure he was all right? That made a hell of a lot of sense; his mother was the one who sent him on this 'mission' in the first place.

Cameron's next words made the brakes slam on his thoughts. Anger seeped into his gut like lava errupting from a volcano. She dared mention his father?

"I--" He flinched as the needle penetrated again, seemingly turning a switch on his response. "Me, too." He shook his head. "I didn't even get to say goodbye to him. There - there were a lot of things we needed to clear up. And..." Another shake of the head. "And now he's gone."

[:O Poor Jack! Stupid Cammers tell him you love hiiim~ *smacks her*]

Cameron bit her lip slightly, realizing that maybe that wasn't the best thing to have said.

"I once had a patient, who talked to her dad all the time...he was dead at the time," Cameron said softly. "But she was still convinced he could hear her, wherever he was. She said it made her feel better, just talking..."

With one final stitch, Cameron was finished both the stitches and that story (which she really wasn't sure why she had started).

"Maybe there will be some Aspirin or Tylenol somewhere in the wreckage...for the pain."

[fo'serious! *strangles them both*]

He wasn't sure why she was telling him the story, but listened silently. It helped to take his mind off the pain of the stitches - although now he had a whole new set of things on his mind. He wondered if she enjoyed working in New Jersey. Wondered if it was a better job, with better colleagues...

Jack nodded when she'd finished. "Yeah. It'd probably be a good idea to get all the medication together. We may be here for a while."

[Haha, if I didn't love 'em I'd be so pissed off right now XD]

Cameron's eyebrows rose slightly, "How long do you think we'll be here?"

It couldn't be more then a couple days, right? They were probably already preparing the boat that would come and rescue them.

Jack didn't answer right away. He gathered his shirts and jacket into his arms and climbed to his feet. He hoped it would be easy finding his luggage. He didn't want to have to put his blood-soaked shirt back on.

Pulling his thoughts back to the present, Jack glanced down at Cameron. He shook his head. "I don't know," he said. "But it could be a while. Hopefully only a couple of days. In any case, having all the medication in one place would be a good idea."

Cameron looked up at Jack, flooded with feelings of the last time they had seen each other. Why couldn't things be easier?

"Should we try to organize something with the luggage then?" Cameron asked, also standing up. "We could find supplies quicker, that way."

Jack nodded and wet his lips. "Yeah. Yeah, that'd probably be a good idea." He glanced back out across the beach at the wreckage, eyeing the luggage. Then his glance slid to the sky, which was steadily getting darker. How long had they been here? Six, seven hours?

"I'm gonna see if I can find a clean shirt somewhere," he said, finally, glancing back at her. "Looks like some people are building bonfires. I doubt any of us will get much sleep tonight."

Cameron nodded in agreement, "I'm sure we'll be busy tomorrow too. Checking on some of the injured again."

She racked her fingers through her messy pony tail. She needed to say something, to let him know the truth.

"Jack," Cameron finally managed. "I...I'm sorry..."

Her courage failed her before she had a chance to be more specific.

Cameron swallowed, starting to feel like an idiot. But it would be better this way, to get it out, for Jack to know even if he did hate her and was only being nice because of the circumstances.

"For before," she said softly, "when I left."
