Who: Karen Walker & OPEN
Where: Near Survivor camp
When: Day 1; September 22, 2004; around 2 P.M.

Karen had miraculously managed to sleep through the entire plane crash. She awoke now, finding herself lying on the ground. Her clothes had seen better days and she had a few minor cuts, but other than that Karen was fine. Numb, even.

The next thing she noticed was that she was surrounded by trees, and somewhere close was the sound of someone screaming. She slowly stood up, as she tried to figure out what had happened. There had been a plane, and she was fairly certain she had been on it, flying…somewhere. She started walking toward the sound of the screaming.

After walking a little ways, Karen stumbled upon a beach. “A beach with people on it,” she said, speaking slowly and thinking about each word as she spoke it. “This could only mean one thing!”

She had heard about the horror that was reality television, how they tricked innocent people into playing. Luring them with promises of money and fame. This had to be the set of that one show, Survivor. She’d show them. Karen Walker would out homo, out twit, and out flash the pants off of every last one of those other contestants.

With a fake smile plastered on her face, she stepped further onto the beach. Hoping to catch someone’s attention and create her first alliance.

[[i've come to bother you XD]]

After what felt like hours of walking, the blonde lowered herself onto a rotted log. She rested her face in her hands, racking her brain for ideas. What would Xena do?

Xena would try and find someone. She'd question them (possibly put the pinch on them) as to her location. Then she'd act. She'd do everything she could to get home.

"Well, that'd be a lot easier if there was someone to talk to," Gabrielle muttered to herself.

But even as the words left her mouth, a deafening sound attacked the warrior's ears. Blue eyes rose skyward in time to see a massive white contraption crashing out of the sky, heading toward what Gabrielle knew was the beach.

Shocked, but still curious, the blonde rose to her feet. She bent to retrieve one of the sais she kept strapped to her boots, and started off in the direction she had come. Whatever that thing was, she needed to know. Maybe it could be a means of getting home.

*****

By the time she returned to the beach, all Tartarus had let loose. People dressed in very strange garb were running around, some screaming, some trying to help people.

Gabrielle stared dumbfounded at this scene of utter chaos. Looking to her left, her eyes came to rest on a woman stepping out of the jungle, a strange smile on her face. This caused one of the blonde's eyebrows to raise.

"Excuse me," she called to the woman. "Do you know what's happened here?"

[[Yay! XD]]

Karen was slightly surprised at the other woman's appearance, and even more surprised that she hadn't figured it out yet. Maintaining her smile, Karen explained, "Oh honey, isn't it obvious? We're all having a party to celebrate our first day on television!"

She pointed in the direction of one of the screamers and continued in a matter of fact tone, "She's doing the ritual victory cry of the wukalukagy tribe."

[baha. i love karen. XD]

For some very strange reason, this woman reminded her a bit of Aphrodite. Maybe this was a dream, after all. Before she had the chance to ask what television was, the dark-haired woman had pointed to a screaming girl some distance from them.

"Wukalukagy tribe? Are they Amazons, do you know?" Gabrielle shook her head. "I'm sorry. I'm not from around here - wherever here is. I've been trying to get back to Greece..."

[Double yay! XD]

The question puzzled Karen for a moment, as she strained to think of what Amazons could mean. "No, I'm pretty sure we speak English. Possibly Australian."

At the mention of Greece, Karen's confused look turned to one of excitement. They actually had something they had in common. "Grease? My husband is part Greek!" A proud tone entered her voice as she continued, "He's a big supporter of your Taco Bell."

Gabrielle blinked at that. Obviously there was some misscommunication happening here. She'd never heard of Australian Amazons before.

A slight smile tugged at the blonde's lips in response to the stranger's excitement. She was about to say, "Really, where's he from?" But paused at that last comment. "I - I'm not sure what you mean. I've traveled all across Greece and I've never heard of any place called Taco Bell." Gabrielle rubbed her eyes with the tips of her fingers. "I must be dreaming," she said aloud to herself. "Well, at least it'll make a good story, whenever I decide to wake up."

[[Coming to annoy you both, but figured a new comment would be best?]]

Ole had been sitting with the remains of his ship and crew mates for the last few days, never straying too far from them, as he hadn't had the strength to bury them and had yet to come up with a more brilliant plan.

Though they seemed to have crashed into a thriving sort of island, there was something slightly off putting about it. Just a tiny inkling of a feeling deep in his gut. Which didn't last long, as a very large part of his brain was sure this was his adventure. Just like the one his father had gotten to take.

Though the loss of the men who'd been on the same ship as him was sad, it wasn't something Ole could change, so instead he simply hopped the men were with loved ones again.

Ole had been looking through the ships tattered remains, gathering up bits of fishing gear that hadn't been completely destroyed, when the terrible noise started. When he made his way back onto the sand and looked into the sky, he was shocked to see the strangest, and largest, bird ever. After standing frozen in place for what seemed to be forever, finding himself even more confused then before, he followed the path the bird had made. Worried the beast had been wounded, considering the strange and terrifying noises it had been making.

Luckily, the ship he'd been aboard really hadn't crashed all of that far from where the bird did. Curiously, he pushed his way past the edge of the jungle but stayed near it. Watching the chaos with a worried eye, before noticing the two ladies standing not far from him.

Lifting his arms in a slight wave, "excuse me!" He called out before stepping a little closer. "Do either of you know what has happened to the.. very large bird? It sounded very hurt as it passed over me." Then looking back out into the chaos, "or where all these folk have come from? I see no ships beached here?"

Karen was baffled by the fact this woman didn't know about Taco Bell. Maybe she wouldn't make such a good ally after all, or maybe she had jungle knowledge. Maybe she knew how to make alcohol out of leaves, and little paper umbrellas out of coconuts...She was pulled out of her thoughts when a man appeared. "I..."

"Large bird?" She was stumped again. Were people going to keep approaching her, asking hard questions? Was this some sort of first challenge? Should she be offended by him asking about her bird?

"These, 'people' are part of the Wukalukagy tribe." In a slightly friendlier tone she added, "And now you are too."

"I was wondering that myself, actually," said Gabrielle, in response to the man's question. "Do you really know what's going on here, or are you just making things up?" She questioned the darkhaired woman. "I've never even heard of this Wukalukagy tribe."

"My name's Gabrielle, by the way," the blonde added.

Karen sighed and replied, "Oh, honey. Maybe we're all trapped in reality television's evil web. Or maybe I hit my head a little too hard after the plane crashed." She shrugged and paused before adding, "The important thing is that we're all here, together."

Maybe that last part was a little too sugar-coated, but Karen needed to get these two into her alliance if she was going to stay on the island.

"I'm Karen. Karen Walker."

Ole looked at the darker haired women with confusion. "Did you not see the large bird?" He wasn't sure how someone could miss it, but then he wasn't sure about a lot of things.

"The Wukalukagy tribe?" The word sounded especially awkward coming from Ole's mouth. "I've never heard of this tribe either, are they a friendly sort, you think?" Looking back out at everyone, "they seem.. distressed?" But then, he knew nothing of such a tribe, so this could be normal for them.

Blue eyes turned to the lighter of the two women, "you heard the bird too? I've never heard a creature sound that way before.."

"Reality television? Plane?" His brow furrowed in confusion. "I.. don't understand most of the things you say," he admitted.

"Hello Gabrielle. Karen. I'm Oleksiy Gerricault, but everyone has always called me Ole."

"They do seem distressed. Whoever they are." She glanced at the man when he addressed her. "Yeah, I saw it. Maybe it's not a bird after all," Gabrielle commented, watching the massive mechanical creature as people swarmed about around it. "It looks like some sort of machine."

"It's nice to meet you, Ole. You don't, by any chance, know how you came to be here, do you? I'm afraid I... lost my way, somehow."

"Of course the Wukalukagys are friendly!" Karen exclaimed. "I'm friendly, aren't I?" She grinned at him.

She looked toward the remnants of the plane, realizing that's what the 'big bird' was. Giggling, "Of course that's not a bird."

Karen was about to continue her explanation, but decided to put it on hold. She was curious to hear the answer as to how her fellow allies had been kidnapped by CBS.

[[I had to peak at the PB wiki and try and figure out Ole's timeline, so I knew just how confused he should be by all of this.. 16th century, as best as I can figure. So.. no machines. Poor Ole is so very, very lost. XD]]

Ole felt, and looked, very, very confused at this point, though he smiled and nodded at Karen's question of her friendliness. His village didn't have any of these machines, but then that didn't really surprise him. The villagers didn't seem much into change, and the giant bird machine was a large change. "What does the bird.. machine do? Should it have made that noise?" This was mostly directed at Karen, as she seemed to know what she was talking about.

He turned his attention away from the plane and back to Gabrielle with a large smile. "Oh yes, our ship crashed into the shore. Not too far from here.." Shaking his head, "we've been out on many fishing trips and I don't recall ever having seen this island before.." Though he didn't sound overly upset by this fact. Thus far it seemed likely this would be his adventure.

Hearing Ole's question about the purpose of the bird machine, Gabrielle turned her head to look at Karen, waiting for the woman's answer.

Blue eyes flickered to Ole again at what he said next. "That's really strange. Was anybody on board hurt?"

[What's a PB wiki? *is intrigued* And I'm sure Karen will do everything in her power to fix Ole's confusion. XD]

So this strange man was a fisherman? Well, that was just...interesting. From what Karen knew about fishers, they had long worms and were good at catching things. But what kind of things? Before she had a chance to ask, she noticed all eyes were on her again.

"It fixes people's problems," she answered with a cheerful smile. "Like, if you want to escape your mother-in-law, you get on a plane, and it takes you to another country. Then, the flight attendants give you alcohol and a bag of peanuts."

Deciding this needed further explanation, she added, "The alcohol is for drinking during the ride, and the peanuts are for taking home to your husband's kids as a sort of peace offering." Beginning to ramble, "Of course, then boy the refuses to share with his sister and an hilarious wrestling match ensues. So you cheer for the girl, even though she's already in a headlock and fading fast..."

She chuckled, letting the rest of the tale play out silently in her mind. Her attention coming back to the two, at the slightest hint that a sob story may soon be told.

[PB wiki = Princess Bride wiki. Ole's a character based in the PB fandom. *nods* Aaaand I dunno where Tazzy is, sooooo my turn. XD]

Eyebrows knit together, Gabrielle nodded at Karen's explanation, but felt even more confused after hearing it. This definitly wasn't a dream; no way in Tartarus could she imagine a strange creature like Karen.

There was no chance for her to hear Ole's answer, for at that moment a loud explosion sounded, and Gabrielle jumped at the sound, gripping her sais in her right hand. Her eyes looked back toward the plane. The entire mass was on fire and a strange fan-like object was blowing bits of sand and debris everywhere. It was utter chaos, and the screams echoed through Gabrielle's head, reminding her of a horrendous war scene.

"I think I'm gonna try and help some of these people," she said, glancing at the pair, then back to the chaos ahead of her. "Maybe we'll see each other again."

Without waiting for a response, the blonde made her way into the fray, stearing clear of the blasts of flame emanating from various bits of the plane. She crept over larger mounds of metal, doing her best not to trip over the bodies of the already deceased. Nothing she could do for them now.

[Sorry! I wanted to get on to reply sooner, but we ended up really busy all weekend, and now I'm all sickly. I kind of figured I'd have to ignore the sickly though, since damnit, I need to post. But, um, yeah. Posting now..]

Ole nodded, "only one to make it out alive." There was a small hint of sadness, and then he shrugged his shoulders a bit. "They felt little pain and I'm sure they've moved on to a bigger adventure then this."

found himself more confused by Karen's answer as well, but decided instead of asking for further explanation, he'd either figure it out on his own later or it couldn't be all of that important. So instead he just nodded. "Thank-you for explaining," and he did sound thankful, but underneath that you could defiantly hear confusion still.

Not that you could really hear him at all, as the explosion seemed to time itself perfectly to block his voice. Still spitting out explaining when it happened, he jumped and stuttered at the word, nearly reaching for his bow before remembering it wasn't currently on his back.

Ole nodded at the blonde, calling out after her, "count on it!" Then turned his eyes back to Karen, "we should try to help as well." He didn't have a smile on his face, but there was a happy twinkle in his eyes. The destruction and chaos didn't make him happy, but the thought of helping, his big adventure, and making new friends did.

One moment the pretty blonde was there, and the next she was gone. Karen supposed this was how all reality television alliances must go.

She contemplated Ole's statement for a moment, trying to decide on the most pleasing reply. With a grin she started, "Sure, let's go h-hel," she choked on the next word. The smile momentarily slipped off her face, before she started over.

"Sure, honey. Let's go," she did a small cough, "these other people."

She turned back towards the beach, and started toward the chaos.

Ole looked over a little unsure when she choked. He was about to ask if she was alright, but then she continued on, and so he didn't. He didn't seem to notice she was unable to spit out the word help either. But it was a small fact, and those tended to go over his head a lot.

He followed her toward the beach. "Do you see anyone who truly needs our help?" He had his hand up over his eyes so he could see past the bright sun.

Karen surveyed the beach, taking in the scene and contemplating Ole's question. There were almost too many disasters to count: horizontal stripes, overalls, sweatpants, RUFFLES. Did these people know absolutely nothing about fashion?

At the sight of an oversized, purple cable-knit sweater, she had to momentarily clasp her hand over her mouth. "Oh honey, I'm not sure where to start. It's all so horrible."

[ooc: Either way is fine with me. Karen could attempt helping people with her new pal, or she could go off in search of her purse full of pills to help herself. *shrugs* She'll be happy either way. XD]

Looking out at the wreckage, Ole fully agreed it was all horrible. He noticed she was glancing at someone in a large berry colored tunic, and nodded in that direction. "We could start there?" He offered her a smile, and a hand around some wreckage that had landed near them.

[ooc: XD Sounds good to me!]

Karen nodded, feeling a burst of excitement. So this man was interested in helping fashion victims, and he definitely wasn't horrible to look at. Depending on how long she was going to have to stay on this island, she may have just found herself a new poodle. And if he played his cards right, she just might have to set him up with a certain up-and-coming actor when they got back home.

She mirrored his smile, as they went around the wreckage. Then began approaching the purple monstrosity.

It was far worse than she had imagined. There was purple there, and a little red blood there. Not to mention the random debris pinning down one of the woman's legs. Karen thought the zombie thriller look had gone out of style ages ago, but apparently it had been reanimated. Along with over-sized plane part accessories.

She momentarily glanced over at Ole, waiting for some cue as to where their makeover team should start.

Ole stopped near the women, frowning when he realized her legs were pinned down. He knelt by her face, holding a hand near her nose. "She still breathes," he said with a nod, then stood.

His frown was quickly replaced with a look of concentration as he turned to Karen. "We should remove," he gestured toward the debris, not wanting to call them by the wrong name, "that first?" It seemed important to get her leg free, but he felt Karen probably knew a bit more then him so he would happily refer to her knowledge.

Karen stared incredulously at Ole for a moment. Was this man actually expecting her to touch that, that hideous person? She frowned, contemplating her options.

Of course, if this was an immunity challenge, she'd have to do this disgusting deed. With a slight nod and tone of complete seriousness, she said, "Alright. I'll do this for you if you'll do something for me." She paused in an attempt to build suspense, "Tell me I'm pretty."

He watched her with friendly, curious eyes, waiting to see what her request was. When the request came out, he looked momentarily confused, then smiled widely. "An easy task Karen, you're quite striking." His answer was quite sincere too.

Karen nodded to acknowledge his offer. She did enjoy a good male muscle flexing, after all.

She grinned at the compliment. Pleased to know that if she did happen to catch anything from this woman, at least CBS had it on tape that she had indeed been a true beauty before. In a playful manner, "Oh honey, you're too kind." Adding under her breath, "And so right."

Taking her place to move the debris, she tried to call to mind how Rosie did manual labor. It seemed like there was something about crab legs. Maybe lifting with the crab legs? But then again, how could crabs help her lift something?

She pondered this a moment longer, before deciding to just go with whatever felt appropriate in the moment. As she bent over to get a hold of the debris, she waited for Ole's signal and carried out her part in lifting.

When she took place to help, Ole lifted his end. Keeping with what he'd promised her and handling most of the weight himself. Once it was lifted, he guided the two over some so they could drop the debris in a safe spot.

Once they'd dropped it, he beamed Karen a wide smile and headed back to the woman to look over her wound. He was far, far from a doctor, but he'd fixed up a few of his own wounds while fishing. "It doesn't look as bad as I feared it would," he told the brunette over his shoulder.

Karen did the minimum amount of lifting possible, breathing harder with every step. After they dropped the debris, she followed Ole back over to where the woman was. Something didn't feel quite right, and she absentmindedly glanced down at her hands. Was that...dirt?

His question brought her concentration momentarily back to the task at hand. With a nod, "I think you might be right, the pants might be salvageable."

She looked down at her hands again, fixated on finding a solution. If only there was a poor person she could wipe the dirt on, and then some hand sanitizer she could use...

Kneeling next to the woman, Karen put one hand on her shirt sleeve, and used the other hand to slap her cheek. "Come on, comatose Betty. Rise and shine already." The action caused the woman to stir slightly, and let out a moan.

Karen stood back up, smiling to herself. She had managed to wipe off some of the filth, and make a woman moan. This was shaping up to be a productive day.

Ole didn't follow Karen's logic or train of thought at all. But he felt she was close enough to what he'd meant to not bother with saying anything.

He watched her curiously when she knelt near the woman, wondering what she would do. At first, when she slapped the woman's cheek, he looked startled. But when she actually stirred, he decided it might be best to simply not question Karen's logic/actions anymore. Obviously she had a much better grasp on the situation then him.

"You've woken her," he said with a just a bit of amazement in his voice. He was used to having to wait long stretches for people to wake on their own.

He followed in her foot steps, kneeling near the woman. "Ma'am, can you speak? I must ask where you feel injured, it's quite vital." Though she was conscious, the woman was far from coherent. Her eyes darted wildly, and the only sounds she would make were moans. After a few moments of this, Ole looked to Karen a little helplessly.

Karen grinned, this feeling of being useful was kinda nice once you got past the whole helping people aspect of it.

When Ole looked at Karen, she pretended to care about the task at hand again. "Twitchy eyes and moaning, it's like my honeymoon cruise all over again." She chuckled, "This woman is obviously wasted." A hint of sadness creeping into her voice, "And we must have missed the booze train."

When was the last time Karen had actually experienced a hangover? It seemed like sometime around the 1300's. She strained to remember what to do, "She needs water, and possibly some aspirin."

While she thought to herself, Ole continued to try and get the woman to say something or do something. Anything really. When she spoke, he smiled (glad she had an idea), then frowned, "I do not know what aspirin is?"
